Good value for money, looks exactly like in the pictures. Very central location, helpful staff and clean rooms. Good selection of fresh bread and fruits on breakfast.

Rooms facing the street are very noisy: you can hear every car passing, conversations from the street etc, which makes it difficult to sleep. Right now there is also a construction site nearby and a loudspeaker outside on the street from which we heard the same Christmas songs on repeat inside the room, loud and clear for 12 hours per day.

The location of the hotel is exceptional. Everything we planned to see was within short walking distance. The area is surrounded by a gazillion restaurants. Every type of the restaurant was easy to find. The staff is friendly, The hotel has a storage room for luggage in case guests have extra time before check-in or after check-out and would like to stroll the nice ornamental cobblestone streets. A taxi stop is near the hotel although I prefer Bolt in many European countries.

The beds were too firm for us. But in a day or two we got used to them. The AC control on the room wall was hard to figure out how to operate, It would be nice to have simple user manuals stuck to the wall next to the AC Control panel.

Beautiful hotel right in the centre of the city within easy walking distance of all the main sights and just a couple of minutes walk to buses from/ to the airport and everywhere else on the island. Friendly welcoming staff. Room was small with no view but was comfortable and very quiet. Superb choice of hot and cold food at breakfast. On the 5th floor is the Panoramic Room with outdoor seating providing a fantastic view of the city and the sea. A very pleasant place to sit in the sun.

The windows in the room were frosted. There was no view...just a dingy courtyard

The hotel is in an excellent location, directly opposite the cathedral so very central. The central square was quite lively on Saturday night but as our room overlooked a side road we didn't hear much noise. The room was comfortable, the breakfast was good and the room rate very good value for such a well located hotel. The staff were very efficient and helpful, allowing us to arrive well before check in time and store our luggage before checking in later in the day. They were also helpful in arranging the airport transfer the next day

We couldn't work out how to turn off the air con and it was therefore quite cool in the room, however, I'm sure the staff would have helped with this if we had asked.

The location is the best you could ask for. Although the hotel does not seem clean, the rooms are super clean. The bed sheets and towels are soft. The breakfast is good, nothing fancy but also quite abundant. Overall it is good for the price if you are staying 1-3 nights.

The night receptionist did not speak English at all. Also there was some kind of mix up about the parking although we reserved it in advance but the receptionist agreed to let us park in the private parking. The room was spacious but at night we heard some kind low frequency noise and it was quite hard to sleep. The beds are very firm.

This older hotel is superbly placed in centre of town making access to Cableway, Marina, restaurants & bars and shopping very easy. Excellent well stocked and good selection of eats at breakfast. Our room was large and very clean and we had access to two separate balconies and a lounge. A taxi rank is opposite the hotel and a block away are the bus stops.

It would have been lovely to have a room kettle or tea/coffee maker in the room. A small gesture like including tea/coffee making facilities in the room would make it more attractive to some guests.

Great central location, with lovely views from the balcony. Walk straight outside to restaurants and cafes, the beautiful cathedral and shops. Friendly helpful staff, good breakfast. The decor is old style but smart and elegant.

A little difficult to find as there is a very small entrance between 2 shops. Free parking (pre book) was a bonus but a little far away to be trundling cases along the cobbles. I guess we should have off loaded and blocked the street like a local!

The location was the best selling feature: centrally located in Funchal, with short walks to all major historical landmarks. While the hotel was a little dated aesthetically, it had all the conveniences and attentive staff to make our stay comfortable and unencumbered.

A little dated aesthetically; could do with a modernization and the breakfast area was a little cramped. Generally acceptable given the location and the service.

Location, location, location!:) You can almost touch the cathedral across from the Hotel Cathedral in the exact center of Funchal. I walked to my cruise ship from the hotel with all my luggage! The Xmas market area was right outside the door. The room was almost a suite (had a little seating area next to the window with a half wall separating it from the bed area) and had good mattresses, WiFi and shower, and room for all bags. Doors open to a faux balcony above the street. Breakfast was tasty and has alternative milk options and a fridge full of juices. Luggage storage is easy thanks to reception ladies Cristina and Maria. I had to add my friend to my reservation and the charge was only 15 Euro extra per night (thank you Maria!) Also love the top floor lounge and terrace overlooking the cathedral.

The Xmas celebrations were a bit loud right below our 2nd story window, even with the window closed, but it didn't really keep us awake.

Great location in the center of Funchal, just a walking distance from the marina. Easy access with a elevator. Friendly staff. Room was rather smallish, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good - both continental and local style.

Because of the location it's not easy to park a car near the hotel. There are hotel parking places, but 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel, so it's not a great option when traveling with big luggage.
