The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and were definitely quite the highlight of this hotel. The hotel also had a very nice restaurant attached to it where you could eat delicious meals. The room was always clean after the cleaning staff did their work. The rooftop pool was very nice with quite a few beds available, as well as a bar. Beware though that the pool is not heated as advertised, or at least wasn't when we were staying there! A night swim was thus not always possible.

The breakfast selection, while big, lacked a bit of a sweet selection. The sweet selection was very basic: croissants, a few other mini pastries, and pasteis de nata. I would suggest adding at least a few more pastries, as well as providing some chocolate paste to go with it. The room we were in had very bad soundproofing and there were nights were we literally barely slept due to outside noise (we were on the 2nd floor). The cleaning system was confusing, as you had to turn on a switch (which is easily forgetable) and thus it happened our room hadn't been made up and had to ask the reception to come clean our room.

This is one of the best hotels that we've ever been to. The hotel staff was super friendly to us and other guests, the location is amazing (exactly in the old town next to cozy restaurants and the promenade), the room was spacious and stylish, the breakfast was excellent, and the pool and the bar at the rooftop were also really pleasant. I only have nice things to say about the Barcelo hotel! Tip: If you're looking for a quick yet inexpensive way to get from the airport to the hotel, consider a shuttle bus that's right next to the exit from the airport. As of Oct 2023, it's just 5 euro per person (or 8 euro for a return trip), and it'll take you to a bus stop (number 6) that's really close to the Barcelo hotel. Note that they only accept cash in the bus.

Very clean, nice staff, good breakfast, comfy beds, beautiful interior decor, right in the centre of the old town where there is so much more going on than in the other nearby areas. Would recommend, we stayed on the top floor at the back corner. It was noted as the quietest section of the hotel. Gym was also small but good, adequate for most workouts.

Could improve on a few more vegan options for breakfast.

Apparently it’s only been open since February so we’re we’re delighted to find it such an amazing hotel fright in the middle of the city. Great facilities and pool on the roof.

Our room was above a night club that had a licence to open 10pm until 4am! Yes really. Fri night was annoying but Saturday night I phoned reception at 1/4 to 3am and was offered another room for the rest of the night. Not something the hotel can change as it’s an old license but not fun to sleep above. Staff were quick to respond to my ph call and very apologetic as they are aware of the problem.

Comfortable clean room. Everything in the minibar included in the room rate. Very nice breakfast. Excellent location.

The hotel is in a prime location within easy reach of restaurants, bars and bus transport. Loved the room very spacious (we had a Junior Suite). The rooftop pool and bar was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was amazing but a little chaotic as peak times. Plenty of taxi's available within a 2 minutes walk.

The restaurant choice was very limited and very expensive compared to other restaurants very close by. Drinks were, in some cases, double the price. The noise at night from a Cocktail bar right next to the hotel was disturbing so a higher floor room would probably have been quieter we were on the 1st floor.

The included breakfast was incredible, the staff were professional & welcoming, the location was perfect and central, the price was very reasonable, the roof terrace would be wonderful in summer (we didn’t swim but we did enjoy the sun up there). The bed was comfy and the room was clean. We liked the little touches too (complimentary chocolates and drinks from the minibar).

A relatively minor thing but the shower has a rain shower and a standard shower head but the standard doesn’t attach to the wall. Unless you want to use it in a hand held way (I don’t) you have to use the rain shower and get your hair wet every day. Also we were on the first floor and were woken up every morning by chatter and noise from the cafe outside. Being ear plugs if this will bother you.

The hotel is modern yet retains charm. The room was comfortable with a small balcony and view of the old town. The staff were all very pleasant. Breakfast choices were good, and the food replenished regularly to ensure freshness and availability. Bed very comfortable. Good bathroom with magnifying mirror for ease of use.

Small areas where attention to detail would have been beneficial, e.g. like replenishing tea/coffee/milk each day without having to ask at reception, minor areas which would make differences, but overall these are small items and not that important in the bigger scale of things.

Very centrally located. Very comfortable, spacious, and quiet room. Excellent choice of food for breakfast - eggs cooked to order by a delightful young lady; in fact, all the staff were helpful and pleasant. Lovely swimming and lounging area on the roof will a lovely view over Funchal Huge and extremely comfortable bed and plenty of storage. Bottle of water provided free of charge every day if you wanted it The hotel was a real pleasure to come back to after a day's sightseeing. We stayed for 5 nights and would have been more than happy to have extended outstay. Sadly, we had to move on.

Almost took a point off as there was no hairdryer or bathrobes in the room - however, that would have been churlish as they were provided within a few minutes of requesting them.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Barcelo Funchal Oldtown hotel and had a wonderful experience. The room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The service was amazing, with the staff taking care of our needs to make our stay enjoyable. Additionally, the breakfast was very good, offering a variety of delicious options to start the day right. The hotel's location is perfect, situated in the center of the old town. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around, making it easy to explore and enjoy the local cuisine and nightlife. I would like to especially thank the Guest Experience Manager, Carolina. She was extremely helpful and fulfilled all our wishes, making our stay even more memorable. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, comfort, excellent service, great breakfast, and ideal location and outstanding guest experience.
