Very good location to see the city. I arrived after reception but their instructions for access was perfect and I had no issues. Decent breakfast every morning. Staff was friendly and helpful, recommending a great restaurant and letting me store my bag my final morning before going to the airport.

Could use more insulation …. Upstairs guests really stomped around every night I was there.

Sao Francisco is a wonderful place to stay in Funchal. The location is perfect, the staff was very friendly, the room was clean and nice, there was a free wifi and climatization (I did not use it, though). Also, the breakfast was satisfactory. I found the price reasonable, and I was pleasantly surprised to receive a welcome gift in my room—a bottle of water, a small local wine, and a local sweet treat. In conclusion, I recommend this accommodation, but there may some limitations for some people.

There was nothing really concerning for me during my stay, but some people may consider the following: Breakfasts were good, though a bit basic. Some guests might find them repetitive after a few days, but I was able to find what I liked every morning (for example, eggs, vegetables, mozzarella, bread, cheese & ham, juice... ) and I enjoyed it. There were occasional Wi-Fi dropouts, but since I had my own internet and was outside majority of time, it wasn’t an issue for me. The pressure of water was not optimal occasionally. Also, although the place wasn’t particularly noisy, I always bring earplugs when I travel, so even occasional street noise wasn’t a problem.

The location was amazing, right at the heart of of the oldtown, the staff very nice and helpful, it was very clean, breakfast was good and there was even a bottle of Madeira and local cake waiting in the room, which cannot be expected from an appartementos

Outside nightlight of the building was just next to my window, and without proper darkening curtains, it was shining throughout the night. I believe pillows, at least in my room should be changed, washing will not do it anymore. The odour of mould from pipes of the bathroom is something I am not used to. Otherwise everything was very good quality-price.

The hotel is in the very city center where you have everything at hand. Just around the corner from the cathedral or Avenida do Mar with all the buses going around the island. The staff are so nice and helpful! When I mentioned that I would have leave before breakfast they immediately suggested to bring something to my room in the evening and put it in the mini fridge for me. Also, they didn’t have a slightest problem with storing my luggage for a week, when I hiked across the island. The service was just perfect! The room was clean, quiet and well equipped. Would stay again.

Breakfast very good, everything fresh (slices of cheese, 3 kind of slices meat, butter, jams, honey, joghurts, cereal, milk, cooked eggs, tomatoes, mozzarella, salad, fruits, juices, teas, coffee machine with all type of coffees, hot chocolate, 2 types of bread, 4 types of breadrolls). A lady at the mornings cares about breakfast - very clean, quick and nice. Lidia at reception also extremely nice, was making phone calls about my reserved trips etc. I got a towel for our trip just in case of swimming in volcanic pool, we could leave our luggage till collection of airport taxi. All staff was very nice. They cared about us. At the arrival bottle of wine and a cake! :-) Nice surprise. We highly reccommend this place. Location brilliant!!!

Place was amazing. The receptionist Sonia was very helpful and she helped us to organise whole trip including renting a car which was much cheaper than at the airport. Hotel... WOW---- was very clean, very good contact in case of any problems. Amazing place right next to all the buses and public transport including near beach which was 5 min away. To swim was a little further 😉 breakfast also was included which was very good start of each day,!!! I recommend this hotel as you will see they exceeded the expectations!!!!

Everything was perfect.

Great location used when switching between relaxing in the evening at the capital and hiking / exploring the island in the morning / afternoon. Very clean and very friendly staff. Big rooms! A lot of choice at breakfast. Parking very close to the hotel and not expensive at all. Also the second option when not available at the hotel isnt far en is a little cheaper.

We didnt like was the bed. You could feel the springs pushing through. Knowing if there is parking available is only known at the day of checkin. There is however another parking garage nearby recommended to us by sao fransisco which is 7 to 8 minute walk.

Our room was spacious and ultra clean. The shower was hot, the bed very comfortable and there was loads of storage space. We had a balcony which was good although the view from it was less than inspiring; just some crumbling brick walls. Breakfast was good. Members of staff were very friendly and helpful. The welcome pack of Madeira wine and local cake was lovely and we had a hostess tray with make it yourself drinks in the room as well. The position of the hotel in the old town was perfect being near to bars, restaurants, airport buses, museums etc. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

We found the Wi-Fi to be very hit and miss. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. The hotel is very small, only 12 rooms so there is no real lounge or communal facility.

The location is fabulous. Everything is right on your doorstep.... giving a great choice of restaurants, bars, places of interest and shops. Yet there is no interference from noise as the property is soundproofed and set a short distance up a side street close to a small, beautiful park. The place is kept immaculately clean and the staff are very welcoming and helpful.

This didn't bother us but if you want a private pool with a sun terrace this is not the place for you.
