Clean and cosy apartment with a balcony where one can enjoy breakfast in the morning sun, within walking distance to the centre of Funchal. My room wasn't facing the street, so there was no traffic noise at night. Very comfy bed. Reliable wifi. Easy check-in with an access-code for the main door, so even if you'd arrive at a late hour, it's no problem getting in.

Weird smell coming from the drains, however it improved with repeated flushing. Walls are not soundproof, so you can hear every step of the other guests in the house. Balcony view (2nd floor) was mostly covered by the nextdoor building/a construction site, so it wasn't as nice as in the pictures (although you can also see a bit of Funchal in the background). No mosquito nets.

I loved this tiny cosy apartment with a lovely view and a perfect balcony. I am grateful for the willingness of the property manager to book for us exactly the apartment we asked for. Because the balcony was the main reason we went for this accommodation. Also the location was perfect and the cleanliness brilliant😊

Someone might find the apartment a bit too tiny, but me and my mum we were very happy 😊 What I was not very happy about was, that no one said in person “hi” on our arrival, neither “bye” on our departure, no one asked if everything is ok and if we do not need anything (a completely different experience than an experience from Spain from the previous year). The only real human being we met in the building was a house keeper and she wasn’t unfortunatelly much friendly. Even though she was doing her job very well!! 👍 But there was no smile, no answer for my greetings, even though I speak portuguese, there was nothing. So it all felt a bit cold and impersonal.

Excellent location only a few minutes walk from the heart of the old town and no real hills! Quiet at night and comfortable bed. Secure entrance with key code and separate key for own apartment. Small kitchen, well equipped for two people - not that we used it as there are plenty of cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance for breakfast and dinner. Lots of very hot water for the shower. A decent sized balcony which gets sun in the morning. We would stay here again.

Although the rubbish was removed and towels were replaced every couple of days it would have been good to have the bed linen changed at least once during our 6 night stay.

The location is incredibly convenient. It is close to everything in main Funchal. The apartment is super clean; they clean every couple of days, so it was impeccable all the time. It is also very little invasive, so it felt as if it was my place. The tiny balcony was great for having a coffee in the morning with the sun coming out. It is a great quite apartment. If you are not planning on making your life there (like heavy cooking, etc.).

just missing a few cooking utensils like good knifes but that is about it, I loved the place!

The location was great! A two minute walk from a shopping centre / supermarket and five minutes from the marina. The apartment was private and in a quiet area which was lovely and the kitchen came with basics like salt and pepper.

It was lacking a few essentials like hand soap and some coffee would have been nice. The apartment was quite cold some nights and there was no thicker blanket provided. The inside patio door wouldn’t lock, even though the terrace is securely fenced, it still made me a little uneasy as a solo traveller. There were lots of noises from other apartments which woke me up throughout the night. There were also quite a lot of ants in the kitchen.

Vila Alegria is in a very good location on the characterful back streets, very close to get to good restaurants, shops and other amenities. The room was clean and airy with simple decor and the bed very comfortable. It was nice to have the communal roof terrace for viewing the city. The check in process was easy. We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment.

We would have liked to have a caffatierre in the kitchenette, but we went and bought one and left it there for the next guests. A few chairs on the communal roof terrace would be great.

The accomodation is wonderfully equipped, the bed is wonderfull, there is a small kitchen and bathroom and a pretty balcony. Everything is clean and fresh, the room has definitely been renovated, all the furniture is solid. There is a mall nearby, the host leaves tips on where to get coffee and food and some recommendations on entertainment. The internet connection is pretty good so I didn't have issues with any of the work calls and other activity. A lot of historical places and other entertainments are pretty close, the bus stop is in thee minutes.

It's a bit noisy since a lot of cars are passing by to get to the central street however this can be easily resolved with a pair of earplugs.

+ The location is very good if you plan to use public transport or buy tours: bus stops and touristic points are very close. Also a big shopping center with supermarket + There is everything needed for a small apartment: bathroom, kitchen facility etc + Easy check-in and check-out, even late in the evening using door code - no troubles + Nice balcony

- The apartment is small: the room is enough but no extra space, the same for bathroom and kitchen. It can be not comfortable for big people - A really nice view is only from the top floor. The lower apartment has a good view but only in one direction, the other view is blocked by the wall of the house opposite

Great location, easy to walk into the city and close to the plaza shopping centre. Nice clean room with a balcony looking up at the fort on the hill (in the room I got). Air con is a big plus also.

The kitchen was usable although lacking a few simple tools like scissors and carving knives etc but overall not bad. No oven but wasn't expecting one. The hob and microwave did the job for me.

I liked the apartment, it had everything I needed, towels were changed every 2 days. The location is convenient, close to the supermarket, 15 minutes walk from the city center

does not apply to the apartments themselves - only paid parking is available, but at least it is right next to the house, if you are lucky to find a place (but this is everywhere in Funchal, as I understand)
