The whole atmosphere of the hotel was really amazing. It felt like we were living in the 30s as the floor was creacking on a lot of spots and thats what made it even more enjoyable. The sight from out window was beautiful, the room was really big and all was clean. The best of all of this was the staff and the service they provided. They were really generous and always helpful. After 2nights every time we came back to the hotel to sleel or to realx we felt like coming home bcs of the amazing people/staff and the service they provided.

I absolutely loved the location and the view was from heaven, overlooking all of the Funchal town to the Port below....I actually spent 11 nights here in total and will certainly be returning....lovely laid back atmosphere in the hotel and the staff were excellent....nothing was too much trouble, no complaints at all...the staff treated me like family and very obliging.....I'm sad to be leaving Madeira island tomorrow, such a happy holiday with beautiful memories....many thanks to the Management and Staff....cheers Colleen👍👍👍

The fact I can't stay longer....ha ha ha...😄 Next time I will plan a longer stay at the Monte Carlo Hotel....

The best of the hotel is the staff, really nice, always smiling and always ready to help! The room is big and clean, with everything you need. Mine had also a little terrace and the bed was really comfortable. The hotel is super close to the city center and the bus to go to the airport and the view from there is amazing on the city, during the day and the night.

It is true that it's a bit old, so it could be renovated. The breakfast is really basic, but good, and the pool has a wonderful view and perfect after one day of hike but i would add some beach chairs. It would be perfect!

The hotel will appeal to those who like to feel like a James Bond movie character - a building with its own history and old-fashioned charm. It's definitely worth staying and enjoying it - it's definitely not like all the other copy-paste boring hotel rooms. Views from the window - breathtaking, even from the bathroom window! I recommend it to those who like historical heritage and understand its value. Parking was available right in the hotel area (for an additional fee). The staff was very kind with caring and helpful attitude. And the manager of the hotel is a fantastic lady! :)

I liked mostly everything, so it was easy to overlook the various wear details. If this hotel could be renovated a little more, it would definitely be a gem! Breakfast was normal, very simple, but it was basically enough

The view was amasing we was promise sea view and we got it, the breakfast was acceptable it would have been nice to have fresh juices. The reception staff was very helpful and could not do enough. The swiming pool area was clean and nice. Room sevice change the bath towels every day and clean and made up the beds

Very characterful, old building. Good location: everything is in walking distance if you don't mind climbing a bit. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast on the terrace with amazing view over Funchal.

Always leaving the key at the reception feels odd. Supposedly they only have internet in the common areas, but it had no problem going online in my room.

Very friendly and welcoming stuff, they also kept my luggage until my flight back home, after I checked out. Building is beautiful, historical with a retro charm. Room was clean and spacious, with comfotable bed. I loved the traditional details in room decor and the hotel overall. Bathroom could be more modern but it’s usable. Hotel has great locations, walking distance from the city centre if you dont’t mind some uphill walking on your way back.

The first positive impression, the girl who works at the reception is very good at customer care. The optimal position with the car otherwise it is a bit tiring given the ups and downs of Funchal.

The room assigned to me would need a refresh, as it had a bad smell every day despite the windows being open. In a hotel the restaurant cannot close

This property probably hasn't been refurbished for a good 40 - 50 years but the old-fashioned décor really added to the charm and atmosphere of the whole place. My room was in an annex next to the swimming pool; it was basic but clean, comfortable, functional and did the job I needed it to. Sheets and towels were clean. The view from the swimming pool on the top floor and the patio by the entrance of Funchal is lovely. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I had dinner on my final night in the restaurant and that was good meal. The hotel is a max. 15 minute walk from the centre of Funchal but be prepared to walk up some hills and steep ones too.

There was no Wifi signal in my room and I was informed about this when I checked in; it wasn't an issue for me but it could be for anyone who wants to be glued to their phone all of the time. The selection of food at Breakfast could have been a lot better (e.g, the scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage were kept in a container that wasn't heated and was subsequently cold and greasy when I tried to eat it).

So much charm! And the views are spectacular from the pool and patio, they make it worth the uphill walk from the city centre. The staff were lovely, so friendly and helpful. Super value for money.

The rooms were definitely dated, small fixes like changing the frayed throw pillows would go a long way. The lack of wifi in the room was also not ideal.
