The breakfast was OK but a bit disappointing. The local Madeira bread (Bolo do Caco) is delicious but they served rather tasteless stuff instead. The general decor is interesting with much use of unusual materials like distressed wood and polished concrete. Our room was small but comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Every morning at breakfast we had to endure (the same) commercial Xmas music, i.e. we had to listen over and over again to Jingle Bells, Rudolf, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseam. Do they not realize how incredibly irrritating this is for guests?

The hotel decoration is stylish and neat. The rooms are lovely and even if I didn’t use it, there is a small gym in the basement with a water fountain. It was also very quiet, I slept like a baby. The single room was a comfortable size and had a nice setting. The bed was cozy and the bathroom was large. There is air con in the room which you can turn on and off yourself. There was a fridge and lots of storage for clothes and food. There was a safe too. The room was very clean. The location is very central with lots of restaurants around. The walk to the beach (Praia Formosa) is about 1h14 minutes which I did twice. The airport is about 25 minutes away by car. But the mostly the staff is very friendly and helpful. I was hiking everyday and leaving before sunrise. I am also vegan. They packed my breakfast so I could take it with me. They also helped me book taxis and kept my suitcase on the first day so I could start my visit while my room was getting ready and brought my bags to the room before I came back. The standard of service is very high. I will definitely go back to this hotel.

Decor in the rooms, much nicer than the pictures. Helpful staff. Fab breakfast, very high quality and really quick service. I’m vegetarian and lots of selection - I don’t understand the some of the reviews below about quality / selection. Would definitely stay again.

Only slight issues was bed was a little too soft for me and mattress topper was loose under the sheets leaving a gap between the headboard under the sheets.

The staff were delightful and couldn't have been more helpful (top tips from concierge Marco to eat at Olivia and Kampo); the location of the hotel was terrific; the room was spotless when we arrived and was cleaned every day; the pretty balcony of our third-floor superior double was nice to sit out on and felt very private (it wasn't one of the wrought-iron ones in the photos); the king-size bed was very comfortable; the shower was great; wi-fi was good; the area was very quiet at night; breakfasts (included in the room price) were FANTASTIC – cooked/prepared to order, plentiful and delicious.

Some small gripes with the design of our room, which was attractive, well-lit and otherwise excellent: 1) it would have been nice to have had a small table on both sides of the bed, not just one; 2) drawers would have been helpful (we stacked our clothes on top of the hanging area); 3) the loo, which was separate from the basin and shower area, was at the foot of the bed, by the entrance to the room. It had no outside window or extractor fan and just a swing door with a gap around it. The only alternative was the toilets down in the basement, by the gym, where there's one loo for men and two for women.

The staff was exceptional! Henrique was awesome with his recommendations and very helpful with any request. The hotel location is perfect! Near restaurants, and very close to the old town and the water front. The room was just the perfect size. It had a small fridge and an electric kettle. There's a samll gym. The adjacent Come Prima restaurant had great breakfast choices and an interesting and healthy lunch menu. The restaurant opened at 8 am, which was a bit late for me, but always had breakfast to go ready. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to everyone.

Beautiful hotel in Funchal. The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was very welcoming and always ready to help. They would even help pack breakfast in the early morning for tours. There is an attached restaurant and bars/cafes and restaurants near by. Short walk to Blandy's and to the main sights. Very quiet part of town at night. I slept like a baby.

This hotel was perfect, but for what I wanted to see in Funchal I kind of wish I would have stayed closer to the Old Town and nearer to the water & cable car station. The area around the hotel is beautiful, it just made me have to walk a lot more. Also, it is in a pedestrian only zone, so if you need to use taxi or bolt you need to move to a main road which is very close by. The positive is that it is very quiet at night.

I really loved the hotel! It is stylish, rooms are nice and clean, it is located in the calm area of city center. Stuff is friendly and caring, I spent there 9 days and felt like in the family. Breakfast is really good and fresh, also hotel is small and it's never busy in cafe. Really recommend the hotel either you are staying 1 night or 9 (like I did).

Everything was great really, perhaps the room was a bit small but it was expected and also it was small on photos, so no surprises there.

Rooms as advertised, location is good, good staff. Well lighten room, small gym, helpful people in the front desk, room service on time.

Even though I arrived at 9 am at the hotel, early check-in wasn't possible because some housekeeping person should have arrived there at 12:00 to "check the room" and this person only arrived at like 14. My room was only possible to enter at 15:30 (!) which is after usual check-in time. No excuses were made. Poor organisation in this regard. Breakfast does not have a lot of options, but is tasty. Some people in the restaurant are not as friendly as the receptionists.

Front desk staff were excellent. The breakfast was limited, but good. The room was very clean, modern and stylish, with an excellent bathroom. The location was very central, but the environment was quiet.

The balcony was small with no room for chairs; this was disappointing. The room was stylishly designed, but lack sufficient table space for placing belongings. On one occasion the breakfast service was very slow, despite us being the only guests in the restaurant.

Caju is a high quality modern boutique hotel. The location in the centre of Funchal is highly touristic, Caju is unique but wouldn't appeal to everyone The staff were excellent and providing some great recommendations for local restaurants that are not typical for tourists. The quality of everything was excellent and the Caju restuarant particularly good for vegan, quality, fresh food. There is a small gym but no other communal facilities
