A wonderful hidden gem of a place in the old Alfama district. The hotel is an old family home and is beautifully decorated in the style of the 1910's with many original art nouveau style features. Staff were exceptional and no request was too small to make our visit perfect.

Nothing to dislike but be aware that the district is old with a maze of tiny winding streets, very steep alleys and small shops and bars. A maze of electricity wires over head and lots of digging up of the drains. It is not a fancy looking place, it is a real place where real people live. If you want fancy tree lined boulevards and Armani/Gucci shops then this is not that area. However the hotel could hold its head high above any cookie cutter chain where "service" looks like remembering your name in order to get a tip.

It’s was one of the homiest hotels we’ve stayed in - the staff and set up really made us feel like we were staying with friends rather than a hotel. A fantastic breakfast is included (which you can take outside looking over the water if so inclined), very spacious rooms and excellent bathrooms. Would wholeheartedly recommend, especially if you are going on a cruise ship, as the terminal is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

There was nothing that affected us personally, but a couple of things for potential travellers to be aware of - this hotel probably is not very friendly for those who are less mobile. There isn’t a lift so you need to be able to walk up a couple of flights of stairs to get to your room. The hotel is also not accessible by public taxi (although they will arrange you a private transfer if required, but this is more expensive) due to road restrictions. A public taxi can get you very close (less than 5 mins walk) but again difficult for those who are not mobile as you need to walk (very briefly) uphill and some steps to reach the door. For 90% of travellers this will be no issue and the hotel is easily worth the travel, but just flagging up for the 10% who it might impact.

Such a beautiful building to stay in. All our hosts were exceptional. Breakfast was gorgeous. Having bubbles on the terrace with a cigarette was delightful. I would like to thank Rodriguez for helping me with my twisted foot and sorting a pack of ice and a stiff drink! Highly recommended!

We would have preferred a double bed. The bedside tables and lamps were beautiful but very wobbly and I was afraid of breaking the glass! But this is being picky!

We were delighted with our room, which was spacious and had a balcony overlooking the Targus river. The breakfasts were out of this world, and the staff were wonderfully helpful. One of our bags was lost, and one of the staff was alert enough to correct the address I had given the airline. Another one of the staff booked out train tickets from Lisbon to Porto and not only secured us forward facing seats but got us the senior discount, which was half off! The hotel itself is wonderfully charming. It was a private home for a wealthy family. Our room had its own chapel just down the hall. (Actually, we were happy to share the chapel.)

The cruise ships that tie up across the street! We had a room with a balcony that allowed us to enjoy time watching river traffic. On our last morning, my wife looked out the window and asked "Who built that new apartment across the street?!" It was a cruise ship that arrived in the middle of the night and nearly completely blocked out view of the river. I'm not sure what anyone could do about that.

The whole experience was absolutely magical. We felt like royalty enjoying all the beautiful stained glass and antique furnishings. It is truly a palace. Every detail takes you back in history. The sunrise over the water was so pretty. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the terrace and later had happy hour there. You feel like the entire house is your own. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. We absolutely would recommend staying here and can’t wait to return.

There are alot of steps.

Our 1st time in Lisbon and the Palacete was one of the highlights. Not only the hotel itself and it's beauty but the staff were outstanding in every possible way! They exceeded our expectations!! Our superior suite with our own chapel, was amazing and so very special. We felt and were treated like royalty.

Luxurious, large room in historic building. Friendly, helpful, even enthusiastic service. Fine dining breakfast.

A noisy, heavy (but not soundproof) bathroom door - an odd choice for otherwise well-refurbished rooms. Walls between guest rooms not at all soundproof. Shortly after making full payment we were told by the hotel that our stay was in carnival time and indeed a nightly, loud, large concert took place across the road from our room, with rock music after midnight. Thanks for telling us.

Unique and timewarpy hotel, perfect location, stunning views, extremely nice and helpful staff. Breakfast is wonderful, as is everything else. The most beautiful hotel in Lisbon.

It's absolutely incredible. We booked the king suite with access to three balconies! It was beautiful and gave us great sites to the old town. The staff also was helpful in booking taxis and events. Additionally, they were very welcoming of our 2x dogs traveling with us. Lastly, breakfast is a must-have! It was one of the top breakfasts in my life.

The front door was very difficult to find, google made it seem like it was on the busier street. We made some edits to the Google maps location to be up the stairs. The stay is well worth it!

Wonderful old world charm - modern conveniences - fun room - great friendly staff - fantastic view to the river - delicious breakfast!!

No complaints! True - stairs are a pain but all that is explained - and what would one expect anyway from a hundred plus years old building - right?!
