Comfortable beds, nice bathroom for the 4 bed dorm.

The man at reception with short hair and a scar on the right of his upper lip was extremely rude and sarcastic. When asked simple questions each one was met with a rude & sarcastic response both to me and the guest in front of me. Two other guests also expressed the same experience with him. Please have him put a little more effort into treating guests like people.

I LOVE freehand Chicago, when you walk in the vibes are relaxing, cool and stylized with lowlights, cherry wood and jewel tones. It smells like incense or cologne throughout the whole building ❤️ nice clean place, easy to navigate and the people were so personable. We had a problem with our toilet and they had someone come to fix it in no time.

The only thing I didn't love about this place was that our shower would not get past warm and was often more on the cold side of lukewarm.

Gives more of a party vibe atmosphere in the hotel and the bathroom is clean and big,bed is comfortable ,the location is in the heart of Chicago downtown and the hotel is offering a reasonable price opposite to Ballys casino and it has a bar and restaurant which is open till 1AM for late night shenanigans ,security is good and providing a locker for us, didn’t use the online checkin checkout feature but it is a good option provided by the management,took 50$ damage deposit during checkin and refunded during the time of checkout

Rooms are occupied more with bunk beds less space to walk ,irony is they have a very comfortable bathroom and the room is a bit congested

The staff were top top tier! I had an issue with one of the guests in my room (found him sleeping in my bed), and when I raised it to the guy at reception he immediately moved me to a private queen room! He went absolutely above and beyond!! Despite the shared room not being that clean, the private room was spotless and included all the amenities including shampoo and conditioner!! I was in the room by the fire escape, so it was a little noisy with the generators right next to it, but nothing unbearable, and it never kept me awake. I did have to keep my curtains closed as the room did back onto a car park but having had the room as an upgrade, I was definitely not complaining! The little bar downstairs was also really cool, and had a great vibe! Perfect for a drink after a busy day!! Overall, the hotel exceeded all my expectations! It’s super central as well which is a bonus!

The shared rooms weren’t very clean! The blind was also broken in the one I was in so it was a bit dark and dingy!

Location is absolutely perfect for those planning to explore the city on feet or public transport. Lots of touristic stuff around or walking distance, and many options for food and nightlife. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. The vibe of the hotel is really cool, it's pretty, stylish, instagramable, and the bars are really nice. They even have a fitness centre.

Because it's very wooden and with carpets, it was not the cleanest. There were webs all around the floor and wardrobes, and small spiders around. I asked for housekeeping and they cleaned bins, bathroom, and changed towels, but didn't bother making the bed or changing sheets. The room was very very very dark as the lights are all low power.

The location was very convenient for work travel. WeWork coworking spaces, eating and public transportation. Also the ambiance of the public spaces (lobby, hallways and bar) was beautiful. The staff was super friendly and gave good suggestions for local amenities.

Looked like it was in need of a “refresh”, “spring cleaning” or update to the room I stayed in. The bedside lamp was broken, there was lots of dust surrounding the overhead room lamp shade, the dimmer switch was glitchy and didn’t work and the paint had many cracks in the bathroom. Nothing big to be upset about, but was noticed and now am being asked about.

I like this hostel a lot. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, I was able to check in with no issues or complications. The room I stayed in was very clean and the beds were comfortable. I love that they had a nice restaurant and bar downstairs and a great lounging area to read or catch up on some work. I would highly recommend this for younger travelers needing a reasonably priced, high quality place to spend time in the city.

I really have no complaints. The owners really tranformed what was once an old run-down SRO hotel, into a nice and classy place for visitors and travelers. The Freehand is great!

The location is really really good. I came over for the weekend to run the Marathon and it's walking distance to the start and finish line. The beds were very comfortable, handy sockets to charge everything. Shower/bathroom were very clean and good water pressure. The room is stayed in was very quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

This isn't specific to this venue obviously because it is about supply and demand and it was during marathon weekend, but I feel the price was expensive for a bed in a 4 bed dorm. Someone rocked up on the day and got a bed in a dorm for 70$ less than I paid having booked months in advance.

it was a jive place, the first floor decor was interesting & inspiring. the bunk beds were set up pretty cool, it gave privacy in a small space. the shower was roomy. i was impressed. my roommates were super considerate & even though we came & went at different hours we were not disturbed by each other, even while sleeping. i'm retired military so i'm used to bunking with dozens of women in open bays, but this was a great experience.

the restaurant wasn't open half the time so i wasn't able to get breakfast & had to go find a place which wasted my time, gas, & energy. it was the reason i choose this hotel-to get breakfast so i could eat & go explore. i was really disappointed. i ate the last day, which was a huge relief, but if you advertise something, you need to have it.

I like how comfortable the bed was and how clean housekeeping left the room after cleaning. The location of the hotel was just perfect! About almost everything was nearby and it wasn't hard to get onto a bus! Not to mention the rooms were almost sound proof! Very personal and intimate, loved the privacy!

The evening guy at the front desk was kind of rude. I had called ahead to ask a question about my check in which was partially my fault for not looking online first but no one answered the phone and I called more then 4 times consecutively. My question wasn't longer then a minute long but the guy who answered who was also the guy at the front desk answered in a pretty rude way. Otherwise great place, the morning people were friendly.
