Friendly staff, great location, quirky interesting property
The evening meal. Wish I had checked out reviews before we booked. If we had we would have eaten elsewhere.

Very historical and atmospheric. It is the second time we have stayed at the hotel and we have found it very enjoyable
We were offered a room in the garden that was very cold and dark and had a walk in shower. We went back to reception and were immediately offered a choice of three rooms that were most acceptable. The bathroom area in the new room no. 114 had a slight step at the entrance. A wooden wedge was covering the step to prevent a tripping hazard, however it was still a cause of concern if entering in stocking feet as it was slippy. We negotiated this issue but were very aware of being careful throughout our stay

Can't fault the friendly helpful staff. Room was of a good comfy clean well decorated standard. Breakfast was of a good quality and quantity. My only gripe about breakfast was when I asked for Eggs Benedict it came swimming/ drowning in hollandaise sauce, untoasted muffin, but quality ham which was a shame. We had booked for a meal on one of our nights, but cancelled and ate elsewhere. In hindsight it was a good move, I would have been disappointed paying for a high end meal only to receive a mediocre qualty meal, as it would not have been cheap. Sorry guys. But we would stay there again. Location superb for touring. Parking a little troublesome. Not many spaces but there are car parks further away.

Appreciated being able to take our dog with us and also that she could be with us at breakfast. We liked being in the bistro too and the serving of a sausage for our dog also there was a large bowl of biscuit treats for her so she will be on a diet when we get home. We really enjoyed our breakfast and the selection, delicious coffee thank you. It was lovely having the lawn and garden area outside the room. The beds were very comfortable. It was a very enjoyable stay with lovely staff. The description mentioned car parking but the hotel parking space was full. It was great having the free 24 hour car park behind the hotel (and we could see our car from the room). It would be good to know that in advance and to avoid parking at the front without a disc.
It would be good to have trays available to carry food through to the bistro but the staff were lovely and very helpful and always offered to carry items through. Notes indicating what the fruit juices were would have avoided me choosing a tomato juice and expecting something different. Difficult to avoid but noise does travel in the bedrooms, I had a cough, as did someone else in the next room so I was very aware of disturbing people. We were fortunate with thoughtful ‘neighbours’ though. Some of the bathroom furnishings are ready for replacement.

I have stayed here quite a few times and I absolutely love the hotel. The staff are amazing. The location is fantastic and it’s just a lovely place to say.
Each time I’ve stayed the rooms have been dirty even down to not cleaning the taps so there’s previous tenants toothpaste on it. I don’t know if the staff don’t have enough time or they just don’t clean properly but it’s always unsatisfactory. Also they now do a self service breakfast which is always cold, for what they charge they really should be doing breakfasts made to order

Good value hotel in a fabulous location, within easy reach of Alnwick castle and a short drive away from Bamburgh castle and the beautiful coastline. All of the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and welcoming, and the room was comfortable.
We had unappetising club sandwiches for lunch in the bistro/bar. The bread was soggy, and the dressing tasted very synthetic. There's no lift in the hotel. Our room was a long walk up and down several sets of stairs, and there was no offer to help with our luggage. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in the room, but no water.

The Olympic dining room and the room.Breakfast and evening meal were both excellent as was the service in the restaurant. Pity almost empty. Food was good value for money, but wine ridiculous price, but found 2 bottles for under £20. Others were almist £40. Info on history of hotel and its dining room from Reception, but 2 badly printed A4 sheets a colour brochure wud do it more justice, even if it was to purchase
Lights too bright in bar lounge area and bar food stopped at 6pm. We wud have eaten in bar if not. Staffing of bar was intermittent too. No bell to ring when service needed. Same with Reception desk. Staff very helpful when available. No guide to local area in our room.

It was good value for money and perfect for anyone that is looking to spend their days exploring the stunning area of Northumberland. Such a comfortable bed and linen. Staff were off the scale great, best at any hotel for a very very long time. Great to have a private car park on site. Breakfast excellent. I hate those toast machines, so a treat to actually have proper toast brought to the table. Also prefer a buffet hot breakfast rather than made to order. Very good
Nothing for our requirements. Exceeded expectations. The only comment would be that the bar area was so brightly lit. We wouldn't have used it anyway, however that would have put us off. Tiny criticism.

Great central location. Added bonus of castle view from our room
The heat in the room was unbearable. No air con and the weather outside was hot. Had to buy a couple of fans. Didn’t like keeping the large sash window open as room was looking over a flat roof and I didn’t want to risk people or animals entering. Breakfast wasn’t terribly hot, only choice of melon on the fruit side and I don’t like it. My breakfast amount got less as each day went on.

We booked evening meal in the restaurant which was supposed to open at 6.30pm. We went down to the bar for a drink and I mentioned we were going to the theatre for 7.30 so asked if we could have a look at a menu so we could order straight away, The gentleman very kindly invited us to go in the restaurant and we would be served so we didn't have to rush our meal. That extra fifteen minutes made all the difference. Great service and the meal was delicious. The room was spotless.
Although the breakfast was good I did not like the heavy serving dishes as you had nowhere to put the lids when you are trying to put the food on the plate.
