The best holiday so far for us, especially as we celebrated our 9th anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised by Teresa, who is such a lovely person. She treated us with dinner every night and frequently asked us about how we were feeling, providing guidance on the surroundings and recommending places to visit since we didn't have a car this time. She has created a little piece of heaven at Casa das Proteas, and she is a kind, harmonious, and amazing human being. We felt lucky to meet her and spent an amazing time there. If you are looking for a tranquil place, with an amazing view and good food, Teresa's place is the best option. Just beware of the singing birds, as they can be quite active all day long! We loved that and enjoyed every day <3 Many thanks, Teresa, Ana and all the staff who have a smile for us every time we meet during the week we stay there. We are grateful and in love with this island (first time in Madeira but not the last). All the best, Teresa Claudia & Roman

We spent 1 week here and it was our greatest choice. Teresa is a very welcoming and helpful host who you can easily talk to and ask for suggestions on sightseeing if you need. We had a very nice room, looking over the ocean. The bed was very comfortable. Our towels were changed and our room was cleaned regularly (I think every 2 days), so the room was always really tidy and clean. If you want, you can enjoy dinner here. Teresa cooks amazing dishes, accompanied with wine and / or desert. Santana and Levada do Rei are pretty close to this place, and we could easily drive around the island from here. Staying here is absolutely a perfect choice.

Ideal for a short time stay. Rooms well equipped (including a fridge and kettle), sweet hostess, an excellent sound isolation, hardly ever heard other guests, though the place was fully booked. The location is beautiful and peaceful, plentiful breakfast included. The road is steep, but that is a norm in Madeira; the shortest ones are steeper, the longest ones easier to travel. And, though on the map it seems that the hotel is almost next to one of the big roads (VE1), actually Satellite image clearly shows that the VE1 has disappeared in a tunnel there and to reach it you have to go back to Sao Jorge, 2,5 km.

If staying for a week, the breakfast gets a bit boring, as the offer never changes.

A high quality guest house in a peaceful location. Just a couple of bars within easy walking distance. Theresa is a wonderful host who offers an evening meal as an option. These were simple home cooked dishes, delicious and good value. The building has clearly been refurbished and the room and bathrooms modern and clean. Most of the rooms are on the first floor with balconies but there are some ground floor ones if stairs are an issue. For this type of holiday accommodation, I would find it hard to suggest any improvements.

I could not find any issues to give a negative comment

Breakfasts were very good. Teresa asked if you wanted eggs every day. There was a variety of fruits, yogurts, cheeses, continental breakfast items. Room we had was nice. Had a sofa in it. Some of the hotel rooms are a bit small. This was a larger one. Teresa was friendly and welcoming. We also had a dinner prepared by her the first night we arrived. You are on the North side of the island and it can be a bit cooler. Great place to eat up the road, about 3 minutes drive, Bolo do Caco. Angie and her husband are so nice and friendly, food is great too, reasonably priced.

Not enough hangers to hang clothes. Would have been nice to have a chest of drawers to put clothing in. I didn't care for the unit space provided. This place had drawers in some of the rooms but not the one we stayed in.

nice breakfast and option of a fried egg every morning. Sometimes the opportunity to taste Theressa's own cuisine in the evening (very tasty). Very good bed. Beautiful views from the pool and balcony. Small but very cozy hotel, that's how it should be for us, this was just perfect. With a very friendly and helpful hostess and a nice cat. By the way, we drank the tastiest Poncha of the entire holiday there. However, it will be closed next month because they are going to renovate and hope to reopen by the summer. A stay that I can certainly recommend to everyone.

well I have no bad comments

This is brand new hotel in very beautiful surroundings. Everything is really high quality - room, towels, pool, breakfast. Staff is very attentive and talks good English. Owner Teresa is very sincere and helpful, a real gold. Come to this place and take our word on high standards. And dont miss a chance, if Teresa cooks - she makes so tasty home meals, best meal in our trip. And go for lunch in Bol do Caco grillbar and taste beef kebab with fresh bread and chips, dont miss their pineapple cake! Teresa, we are thankful and will come back!

Good night's sleep, great breakfast, sea view, balcony, quiet calm area, parking available, kettle, fridge, 20 min walk on quiet roads to very nice place to eat (bolo do caco,i won't insult it by calling it a snack bar, soooo much care goes into making their food delicious)

Nothing! But bring a teaspoon and your own tea/coffee if you're going to use the kettle!). Only reason it's not getting 10 is because I save 10s for completely mind-blowing places. This is at least a 9.75 :-)

Set high in the hills with great views out to sea. Very friendly staff and great breakfast. We chose to eat here in the evening. It's not a restaurant but there's an offer of meat, fish or pasta dish. You have to book before 10 am on the day you want to eat. You can ask what the dish is and both have the same. We found it excellent value. Consisting of a bread plus three courses with a glass of wine € 15- €24. Highly recommended this is a great place to relax and enjoy.
