Clean, modern, spacious

We were abruptly advised upon arrival we would be liable for a $100 daily room servicing fee if we wanted our room serviced (beds made, towels changed, general clean, rubbish bin cleared). This was rather perplexing as we had already paid for the room and had booked the accommodation based on the knowledge we would have our room serviced as part of the standard room charge. This newly implemented additional charge was both shocking and disappointing. We went without a room service for our 5 day stay, making for a less than comfortable arrangement - no rubbish cleared, toilet paper shortages, and general cleaning that we were under the assumption would be provided as part of our standard room charge.

Impressed with this hotel: our room, staff, breakfasts, evening meals, underground parking (at$15pn). Breakfasts consisted of a good continental spread plus an individually prepared hot meal. I can't remember if the latter was included or whether I had prepaid. It did mean the breakfast was hot and not a possible lukewarm meal from a bain-marie. The hotel was just a little way from "town" (but not very far) and there was a Pac'n Save supermarket just over the road for nibbles and drinks. This was my second visit to Napier mainly to look at art deco commercial buildings (with Hastings also a must & possibly even a better example). I doubt there will be a 3rd visit (only because of age) but the hotel is now part of a Group and I would certainly consider those other hotels if they fall within my travel plans. Also by joining the free membership you get a good discount from meals etc.

A small whinge: the room includes a "half-couch" and not a proper lounge chair (or preferably two!). I think these half-couches are not comfortable and don't add an attractive look to the room. (I now find other "big name" hotels are using them which is a pity.) Perhaps they are used as a child bed? - I don't know. Perhaps the hotels are being conned by interior design "experts" who never actually try the end product? My wife thinks most rooms are designed by men and not their female partners!

Quite new with very large rooms packed with plenty of furniture and facilities. Everything in new trendy styles. TV plays YouTube videos. Windows kept out the worst of the sound from outside. Powerful air conditioner. Close to downtown and even closer to major shopping complex. Electronic room key gives access to elevators.

I didn't need to do anything too early in the morning during my stay, but, if I did, I would prefer breakfast begin at 6am rather than 7am. Please tell your employees not to enter the room while I am there without clear permission as it's a violation of privacy (only happened once).

Didn't use breakfast. Bar near reception was never open. Room was spacious and very clean. Well appointed.

My room smelt a little musty or funky. Maybe like there had been an animal in there at some point. I also didn't like a $100 bond being taken - this seemed excessive given my card details were on file if there were any issues. I can't recall a time I have ever been asked for a bond like this except for maybe when I was 20 and staying in a campground (some 20 years ago) I don't expect this of a hotel.

Lovely big room with decent sized fridge, dining table and chairs, coffee machine and kettle. Staff supplied cutlery and crockery so we could eat in. Parking charge was reasonable and parking area was very secure. Short walk to town and supermarket. Friendly, helpful staff.

The safe wouldn't unlock, even after it was reset. Water spout over the bathroom sink only just reached the sink, so water went all over the counter when you tried to wash your hands, clean your teeth. The chaise lounges in the room were cute and quirky, but uncomfortable and impractical.

The place was perfect. The deluxe premium studio was enormous, well appointed, super clean. The Manager and staff were amazing. Very helpful and accommodating. Parking was easy. The breakfast was one if the best we have had in quite awhile. Well done Swiss-Belhotel and thank you.

This is super picky and I am almost embarrassed to mention because how great everything was, but the bathroom sink and faucet were oddly placed. Water barely reached over the bowl edge. Easily remedied with a longer faucet.

Super central and close to everything, bedroom was spacious and comfortable, plus I loved the decor. The staff and housekeeping were so nice I couldn’t fault that if I tried.

The in-room kitchenette facilities were non-existent with no cutlery or crockery aside from 2 very small cups & saucers - I had to use my hands to eat anything I purchased. The fridge also froze everything in it after a few hours so storing food and drinks wasn’t possible.

Rooms were nice and dark so you did not wake up with the early morning natural light. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very well appointed! Nice coffee machine too, great for the morning to start your day.

The kitchenette did not have anything in it except for a couple of cups. It would be good to have a couple of plates and some basic cutlery available as we wanted to enjoy some cheese and crackers with a glass of wine after travelling in the room.

Breakfast was nice, not fancy but all you need and good quality. Staff were friendly and it was very clean. Situated in the CBD but quiet. Large, well set out studio room with kitchen facility and good size nice marble bathroom. Close to the sea and the shops including supermarkets. Great hotel.

Only thing we both didn’t like was the bed as it was very firm however it is difficult to please everyone. Pillows were really large and comfy

The room was clean and spacious. Everything was fairly new.

The pipes from neighbours were occasionally loud. The tap in the bathroom was a joke (barely lined up with sink). There was some function on the beside landline phone which meant a bright light shone out several times in the night. The curtained wall and pillar blocked window meant there was very restricted natural light.
