Our party used 3 rooms, one accessible, one ground floor with a walk in shower and one upper floor. Our large ground floor room was exceptionally well equipped with a large fan, a percolator with delicious coffee replenished daily plus tea, hot chocolate sachets, milk, sweeteners, sugar and biscuits. There was a large TV, 2 comfortable chairs and coffee table, plenty of storage and a space with a lift up lid with a mirror where you could keep hair brushes, makeup etc. The bed was large and very comfortable. Our relatives in the other rooms were very impressed with theirs too. The bar/restaurant building was set on the riverside and had an outdoor area extending into the river. The food was delicious with a good choice, good quality with a very reasonably priced set menu Monday-Thursday of £16.95 for two courses and £19.95 for 3 courses. There is a free car park with charging points. The staff were all very helpful and cheerful and couldn’t do enough to help. It was lovely watching the rowers going up and down the river and there was a 2 hour boat trip with commentary, which could be reached a short walk from the hotel along the riverside, where we saw wildlife including deer. There were plenty of other nice walks including along the opposite side of the river reached by an iron bridge where I took the photograph of the back of the hotel. The centre of Chester was about a 5-10 min walk and well worth a visit with one route going through the well kept attractive Grosvenor Park. The cathedral is well worth a visit and there are plenty of well known and individual shops. I can’t remember a hotel we have enjoyed staying in as much as this and in such a good position.

Ideal location with a restaurant next door. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of continental and cooked options, plus plenty of tea, coffee, and juices. Once we parked the car, we didn’t need it again until we left — everything was within walking distance, including the river, city walls, and the centre. Although our room overlooked the car park, it was very quiet with no noise from outside or neighbouring rooms. The bedroom was modern and comfortable, with a lovely walk-in shower, large cosy bed, and tea and coffee facilities. Thoughtful touches, like the wool curtain with a heavy thermal lining, added to the homely feel. We booked a standard double room. Would definitely recommend!
Not the owners’ fault, but we happened to visit during a heatwave with temperatures over 30 degrees. The room became quite stuffy as we had to keep the heavy curtains drawn to block out the strong sun, which also prevented any breeze from the open window. A large fan was provided, though it only moved the warm air around. We did open the door overlooking the car park for ventilation, but had to close it at night for security reasons. I contacted the owners, who were very understanding and explained that their Superior Double rooms are fitted with air conditioning. With this being the only gripe we would definitely book the Boathouse Inn again

Both the evening meal and the breakfast were excellent. The service was first class as was the quality of the wines we drank. The location was great although, as we were there in the winter we didn't really have much opportunity to enjoy it but I could see that it will be amazing in the summer months.
We had an hour after settling in before we met friends for drinks and a meal. During that time we planned to relax in our room and watch a bit of TV as it was after dark on a rather chilly February evening. We had great problems getting the TV to work and even the member of staff who came to sort it had several attempts to get it working. Once it was working I thought the selection of channels was very limited. This was the only very minor gripe as we hadn't come to sit and watch tele!!!

I loved the location, being situated on the River Dee is perfect! We walked everywhere, along the River and through lovely gardens, on the ancient wall, to the historic racetrack, to the cathedral, amphitheater, restaurants and pubs. We felt very safe. It was great watching boaters on the river, morning and evening. The room was nice size, very clean with comfortable bed. Breakfast was tasty with nice variety, we had dinner at the restaurant twice also, very convenient. We had a car so onsite parking is a huge plus. Every staff member was pleasant and helpful, no exceptions. Chester is beautiful and I would definitely choose to stay at The Boathouse again.
We arrived at a busy time of day for the restaurant so the parking lot was full. We didn’t have to wait long for a space and after that on subsequent days we had no trouble at all with parking. A shelf in the shower would be convenient.

The room was cozy, nicely decorated and quite warm, so we were glad for the fan. Considering it was a busy pub and the rooms overlooked the carpark, it wasn't too noisy. All the staff we met were excellent, helpful and friendly.
Grout on the shower tiles, behind the shower could be refreshed, made it look like it wasn't cleaned when it might've been. It would've been nice to have some money off meals in the pub if you were staying in the rooms; if this deal existed we weren't told about it.

The location from our opinion was excellent - walking distance into Chester. Free parking was an absolute bonus! The room was good and comfortable and serviced daily. The pub is great and the food was very good. How refreshing to have breakfast cooked in the kitchen fresh and delivered to our table.
We didn't dislike anything but we did have a problem with our television not working and the management dealt with this the best they could and compensated us more than adequately. The bathrooms have small issues. Our sink plug was broken and these small issues can tend to escalate if they are not paid attention to.

Breakfast is always fantastic at the Boathouse, with the view of the river in the morning. Just idyllic setting and the food is excellent. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. The locality is fantastic also, the views are wonderful and the walk along the dee and up to the local pub up by the main bridge is great.
When we got back to the room that night, we found two spiders on the bed, which obviously prompted a search for any others in the room (which sent the wife into overdrive). The TV channels were not coming on - we had to run through 50 plus channels before we found an English speaking channel. No BBC1 or 2 etc, or ITV - it may have just been this room as we stayed in a signature room last year and everything was perfect.

This property was fantastic! The location is amazing - right on the river. When we arrived the weather was boiling, the doors of the restaurant were open and we sat at a table with the river by the side of us - what’s not to like about that! The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Chester - so convenient.
No air conditioning in the room. The room was very stuffy at night as we only had a small window to open.

The pub was great, very relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. The room was nicely decorated and liked that we could open the window. Nice and quiet. Great location by the river, easy walk into Chester.
Breakfast was average. Some items overcooked and hard ie bacon and poached eggs. For the price of the stay would have expected a better quality of bread. The bathroom needed a good clean, especially under the toilet seat and the rim of the sink. When you are led in bed and the toilet is right by you, you don’t want to be looking at a dirty toilet rim. The TV wasn’t working for the whole stay. Someone had attempted to put sticky plasters over the LED’s on the smoke detector. The robes were of poor quality, smelt fusty and didn’t fit my 6ft husband.

Lovely location by the river Dee for our short break, an easy stroll to the city centre and the main attractions. Our room was in a modern block on the other side of the car park so not a great river view but we appreciated the free parking. Standard room with all the usual facilities. The breakfast was good - other half appreciated having omelette Arnold Bennett on the menu.
Minor quibbles - the room was on the warm side and we couldn't work out how to lower the temperature other than opening the window. The pillows were not the most comfortable but that is such a personal thing so not really the fault of the property.
