Standard King Room, was well proportioned with seperate study/desk area.

Bathroom was very small and King bed was two seperate beds pushed together.

Central Location , room was nice , warm and spacious

The receptionist on our arrival was adamant we would need to wait until 3pm for room access even though the hotel was obviously exceptionally quiet. Breakfast was a disaster. On arrival we needed to ring a bell - Chef was the only person on duty , he was a STAR he was manning the dining room, clearing tables, replenishing items, preparing cooked breakfasts. Tumblers for juice, butter, bread, milk were in short supply. No fresh fruit, only instant coffee in a flask .No teapots for tea just teabags in cups . Very dissapointed however the cooked breakfast was cooked to order and was very good - thank you CHEF who was trying yo hold everything together.

The room was a really good size for 2 adults and a child, warm but not too hot and the bed was very comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was nice and the breakfast room was lovely. The location of the hotel was great for us.

The breakfast was included in the price and although it was nice I think if we were to have paid to have breakfast added (which would have cost more) I would have been disappointed in the selection. The TV in the room only had 2 working channels, which wasn't an issue for us as we brought books, however could have been a problem for others. There was also quite a lot of noise from the bar across the street, which I understand can't be helped, but it did wake us.

This is obviously a blast from the past. It was once a luxury hotel but is now showing signs of age. Wear and tear is showing. However, I loved the place. Truly atmospheric. Central, close to the wall walk, a must. The true highlight of the place is the staff. 3 young women who do everything and are truly brilliant. The price of my 2 night stay made it, in my opinion, an absolute bargain.

At first I was a bit worried about the size of my room and bed, (a single). However, I soon got used to it. I grew to love it. If you want absolute luxury then maybe don't stay here.

The breakfast experience let the whole stay down otherwise it would be a 10 The staff need training on customer service especially in an establishment like the Macdonald. Very rude and did not communicate with us when they lost our order, we were left waiting for an hour before anything was done, items were missing off the breakfast which we were not made aware of and other tables were offered alternatives to the missing items, when we complained about the wait of our food we received a number of uncomfortable looks. Such a shame

Location excellent, close enough to the station, walking distance. Reception Staff very accommodating, especially Vicky, who kindly arranged to upgrade our room for our 2nd night.

Our 1st night spent was very uncomfortable for the reasons, there was no ventilation into the room, the windows were sealed and the air conditioning was faulty. The breakfast could be improved: by cooking fresh ingredients, it all tasted like it had been kept warm, the mushrooms were inedible. The waitress brought the order too us too quickly before we had time to finish our croissant.!!

Perfect location, very welcoming and friendly. Bed was very comfy and the room was really well sized for a standard double we booked.

Although they state due to being city centre and to expect some noise, I didn’t expect the noise to be what it was, 2am music from surrounding club, 4-5am people still out shouting, arguing, screaming and laughing, 6am street cleaning, 7am what sounded like a delivery of barrels, 8am stall outside setting up for the day. I am a light sleeper though, friends stayed other side of hotel and no noise problems.

Location is ideal as it is in the middle of Chester centre, room was good (although I would have preferred it if the window wasn't screwed shut) I appreciate that this may be either for safety reasons or due to the air conditioning in the room but some fresh air would have been nice, also a couple of other small things like the tea/coffee being virtually empty when we arrived in the room, also the 'wardrobe' was quite short, so my partners dress (for the races) trailed along the floor in the wardrobe.... On the whole, minor irritations and the whole visit and the staff more than made up for this, would definitely stay here again... Cannot comment on the breakfast as we didn't have it, I'm sure it will have been good, but seemed quite expensive at £22 per person (per night).... I would suggest to people staying to go and get breakfast from a local small business cafe (which we did on both mornings)

Hotel is beautiful. Check in and bar staff were polite and professional. We had an exceptional room which we appreciated and was lovely for a special occasion being our anniversary. There was a card and a little box of chocolates on our room which was so a lovely touch. Lovely comfy bed and nice Elemis products in the room.

We did notice that 3 glasses which we spotted outside one of the rooms when we arrived were still sat there when we left 2 days later. The bar was closed all day on the Saturday which was really disappointing as we love the old fashioned bar area and really wanted a nightcap before bed. There was clearly a lack of staff, nobody to man the bar but that shouldn’t impact the stay of the guests.

Excellent Rooms,Excellent Staff,Very Peaceful Location,Good Coffee and Tea Facilities. Very Impressed by the Businesses Continual Generous Charitable Donations. Good 📺 Televisions .An Excellent Central Location For Shopping,Restaurants and Cafes.

It Would not be a Great Expense to Install New Showers ,These are Dated,One was not fixed in Securely,A Danger to The Guests.Gradual Redecoration of the Rooms would be a Major plus to Increasing The Volume of Customers. Only One Bulb in Ceiling Light in One of the Rooms.
