Location right near the centre of Chester just a short walk from a large car park. The historic back street hotel has it own individual character with the very limited rooms furnished in a quirky old fashioned style mix that we enjoyed. The pub below the rooms carries on this unique style with a great for us on our visit Xmas atmosphere The huge oval plated full English breakfast on both days was the best we can remember having in hotel accommodation and set us up for the day. If you want a break away from the big hotel chains where every room is the same and looking for a bit of true local character this is the place for you. Loved the personal touch from Martin the owner and all staff especially Ginny. We enjoyed it so much we have been back on booking.com and have already booked for the same time next year at a great price that like this year includes a full English breakfast.

A warm welcome and a nice, unexpected early check in, room was clean and welcoming, decorated in a faux early 20th century style, part industrial part bakerlite and gorgeous oak furniture. Bathroom was bijou but very well equipped. Breakfast was fabulous, full English was magnificent and delicious. The pub part of the hotel is softly lit and gives the impression of a bygone era, you could imagine it being a tavern populated by merry villagers with mugs of ale.......loved it. Staff/owners were brilliant, so helpful and welcoming.
Bed was a little firm for my liking, the toilet was the most entertaining of any I have used in my 54 years, the noise is other worldly 🤣 My only other tiny gripe, is one I've made in quite a few of my reviews, is UHT milk and basic coffee. The coffee at breakfast was lovely, freshly brewed, I like coffee and would like to see a little better quality in the room. I would absolutely stay here again though, so close to getting a 10/10.

Breakfast amazing, well presented and cooked beautifully. Located just a little away from centre but we walked it in less than 5mins. Staff friendly, and told us about evening entertainment. It is a very popular busy pub, so if your not a local you may not get a place to sit. So if there is evening entertainment, get a spot early. Rooms are good, lighting was a bit dull, rooms are heated well and cosy.
We couldn't really complain, it was what we expected for a 1 night stay, we will definitely stay longer next time. Busy bar loud music, noisy passage way with people coming in from evening out. But we were OK with this other might find it annoying, but rooms.are above a pub so expect noise.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few days as we were going to Chester Zoo for our anniversary. We loved our room and how spacious it was. We loved the decor, it was really cosy! Everyone who worked there was very nice and friendly. We loved our breakfast. I have seen a few reviews say that it can be noisy as the pub is downstairs but we never had any problems with the noise. However that might be because we stayed there at the beginning of the week and not during the weekend. Everything was within walking distance and we had a comfortable nights sleep throughout. Thank you!

The pub was excellent, really friendly and the staff couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcome. The room was great, perfectly clean with loads of character and we both agreed we could have stayed in the bed all day it was so comfortable. We did have a walk into town (which the pub is very well situated to do) to experience Chester as we were only there for a night, but to be honest we’d have been just as happy to spend the evening in the eagle listening to the DJ. We will definitely come back for a longer stay in the near future.

Lovely very homely and quickie with the record player and trumpet staff were fantastic and had a beautiful sleep couldn't do enough for us Saturn spoke with us the owner's name is Martin and the second one who works for him her name is Jeannie they both couldn't do enough for us and made us feel extremely welcome the breakfast was absolutely lovely we will definitely be booking again
The only thing we didn't like is the lights are very dull and it's hard sometimes to see you do your hair or things like that and just the wires hanging down from the TV but this is not a complaint and will definitely stay again

We stayed here when we went to Dan Nightingales comedians club. The Golden Eagle is the perfect postion for the short walk to the venue. The staff were fantastic, very friendly, and very help full even told us about the free overnight parking 1 min walk away. The room was beautiful, and the bed was outstanding. Best nights sleep id had There is a little bit of noise from the busy downstairs pub whilst it was open, but that's to be expected when Dan Nightingale and his comedians come back after the show for drinks. Full English breakfast was outstanding, too. We will definitely be staying again

It was very convenient and a comfortable room, liked the decor - felt homely - large TV and tea and coffee provided- bed comfortable:) Brilliant breakfast and staff. Loved the vibe of the pub, quirky and really authentic- a super stay all round!
Personal preference but would rather simple white linen when travelling. There was a (unavoidable) step to the loo, might have needed a mini light at night as a reminder of the step down- would not stop me booking here again though.

The owner, Martin, and the entire staff is great, very personable, friendly and helpful. Fantastic location, close to everything including free parking within a 2-3 minute walk.. Great breakfast. Loved everything about our stay except for the dim lighting in our room that made reading difficult. Too late, we discovered a reading lamp in the closet. Our bad.
The lighting could be improved, but that is a minor quibble.
