The hotel was very unique, classy and cool to be in in the heat we experienced in Matera. On arrival we were greeted with an 'upgrade' which was special. The terrace bar and restaurant area had an amazing view of the old caves. The porter was amazing at getting all our bags to the hotel (a little trek to the hotel from the time you arrive in the square above the hotel). Very spacious rooms and our bathroom was nearly as big as the bedroom area. Staff all very helpful and gracious.

Just a preference thing - the bed was firmer than we have at home. Location was good but quite a few slippery stairs down to the property and as the entrance to the hotel was only 20 metres to an amazing view across the valley to the old caves there was alot of human traffic on this stairway - it got busy at times especially with walking tour groups coming down.

The location is excellent. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The bed was comfortable. I asked for a softer pillow and was given one.

The plumbing in the shower was confusing, and unnecessarily complicated. The towel hook kept falling out of the wall, and instead of securing it, the house staff kept putting it back it in place. The quality of the staff was mixed. Some were gracious, friendly, and helpful (Giovanna in reception comes to mind, and one waiter at breakfast whose name I did not get). Others, in our opinion, should not be in hospitality. They simply were not outgoing or gracious. Edgie in reception waited for us to say buon giorno before he looked up from his phone, for example. Luciano, a waiter, was surly. Perhaps he was having a bad week, I don’t know, but it made a bad impression.

Breakfast was extraordinary! Great variety with made to order eggs and coffee. Room was sizable and comfortable. Location can't be beat. Close to everything but also off the main path so very quiet. Hotel helped us arrange parking outside of the sassi and a shuttle to and from the hotel.

The only thing was the air conditioning wouldn't get below 27C. Since my husband and I are both hot sleepers, it got a tiny bit uncomfortable at night. But wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

BEAUTIFUL HOTEL ON THE VERY TOP OF THE CITY- SO MANY MANY STAIRS TO GET THERE. THE STAFF IS SUPER HELPFUL GETTING YOUR BAGS UP AND DOWN TO THE MEETING POINT. THEY REACHED OUT ON WHATS APP BEFORE WE ARRIVED TO ENSURE WE KNEW HOW TO PARK OUTSIDE THE HISTORIC CENTER AND TAKE THE SHUTTLE- THEY WERE GREAT IN ARRANGING THE PARKING AND SHUTTLE SERVICE.

BREAKFAST IS INCLUDED BUT NOT GOOD AT ALL - EGGS NOT COOKED WELL AND SERVICE IS LACKING . WE ALSO LEFT OUR LUGGAGE AT THE FRONT AFTER CHECKING OUT TO GO ON A TOUR AND THE LUGGAGE WAS NOT SECURED SAFELY (NOT LOCKED IN A ROOM BUT JUST LEFT BY THE FRONT DESK ) AND INEVEITABLY SOMETHING WAS STOLEN /MISSING FROM ONE OF OUR BAGS WHICH WE ARE TOLD COULDNT HAVE HAPPENED BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT DID.

What a treat it was to stay at this lovely hotel right in the heart of Matera with such a professional team looking after us during our stay. Reception staff turned into Atlas to haul our cases up and down the cobbled stairways to our shuttle, made dinner recommendations and told us the best way to see every corner of this beautiful historical city. The most charming of breakfast waiters attended to our every need and we looked forward to and will miss our morning chats with him about the Giro and the football … such a great selection at breakfast too! last but not least the cleaning staff made sure our room was in tip top condition for the duration of our stay. Thank you all for making our trip so memorable.

Could have done with a small comfy sofa or two chairs to lounge on in the room rather than the bed … and maybe supply two small fold up chairs so you could sit out on the balcony if required

The hotel was very helpful reaching out to us on what’s app to tell us about the two car park options. On our request they booked Parcheggi Nicoletti Michele & the shuttle to & from the car park. They said we should telephone them when we arrived at the car park so they can send someone to meet us to carry our bags from where the shuttle goes to the hotel (cars can’t reach the hotel) but as we didn’t have roaming, we asked the car park to call for us. A young man was waiting for us when the shuttle arrived in the centre of the Sassi & carried our bags. Advice from a friend to leave our suitcases in the car & only bring overnight bags was good. The room was huge with superking bed & nice bathroom & very quiet for a good nights sleep. Better than it looks on the website with good view from the smallish window Breakfast was good with very helpful & smiling waiter although it would have been nicer to have been able to sit outside. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant was a bit expensive but very good with wonderful views over the Sassi. We had asked the hotel about guided tours beforehand. They gave us the price for a private tour & a shared tour. We asked them to book the shared tour which was excellent & the guide spoke good English. The 2hr tour started at 10.30 & the hotel booked the shuttle to take us back to our car at 1.30 & kept our luggage for us while we did the tour. We could have had the shuttle at any time but need to book as they are busy.

The Quarry Resort was an absolutely pleasant surprise. The staff: From the moment we were greeted until we left, the staff were attentive, helpful, courteous and a pleasure to deal with. Nothing was too much trouble! The facilities: The hotel was impeccably clean, well appointed and perfectly located. The amenities: The breakfasts were very well catered and dinner in the restaurant was delicious. The reception: Angelo and his staff on the front desk did everything we needed to make the stay thoroughly enjoyable. Overall: I would thoroughly recommend The Quarry Resort to stay on Matera.

The resort is beautiful, it is a boutique hotel located in the heart of Matera, right by the Duomo. Enza, the property owner is super personable and hands on with any inquiries we have. Vito, the manager is super friendly and provide excellent hospitality service. Bonus point is their staff will come meet you at the square and carry your luggage directly to the entrance.

The hotel transport is via a 3rd party transport/car park company i believe. I see other 5 start resort has their own transport so it would be great if the hotel can also offer that in the future. We have to pay 30EUR extra a night for transport + 1 night of parking. And due to there were two group of guests arriving at the same time, we had to wait at the parking garage for 20 mins for the transport to drop off the other group of guests and come back.

Perfect location, beautiful, very spacious and extremely clean room. One of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had. Very accommodating and genuinely friendly staff.

The first of the two recommended car parks (we go) failed completely. Despite earlier booking, they did not pick up the phone when we arrived and despite the fact that we arrived 10 mins before closure time, they were closed. On the other hand, the other recommended car park worked perfectly, accepted us despite no earlier booking with them, their shuttle service was great and they even collected some stuff we forgot in the car and brought it to the hotel at no extra charge. They are Parcheggio Nicoletti Michele and I suggest to use them

Our entire experience was exceptional. The location was amazing. The hospitality throughout the hotel was outstanding including the frequent interactions with the owner of the hotel, the front desk and the restaurant. The breakfast could not have been better. The room and bathroom were very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. We have stayed at many hotels around the world and this one is at the top of our list. We will definitely be back.
