Location. Boutique feel. Clean. Comfortable. Spacious. Beautiful bathroom with bath. Very cute and cosy.

We had no natural light. Only some rooms have a window that give natural light. I would recommend asking for those rooms and pay a bit extra. Our room had a window but it was so close to next building, it felt like we had no external light. Made it a bit gloomy. Drier didn’t dry the clothes. Washer drier machines are not effective.

The location, facilities and staff are top notch. It is located at the center of the Gion area. It is also a walking distance to most of the attractions like Hanami Koji Street, Nishiki Market, Yasaka Shrine (24hr), Pontocho Alley and Kiyomizu-dera. We did walk to Kiyomizu-dera but took the bus back to the hotel. There is a metro station nearby called Gion-Shijo Station, it will take you to Fushimi Inari Taisha (24hr). Also, there is a train station nearby called Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station, it has a slow train to Osaka-Umeda about 45 minutes ride. Did I mention there is a 7 eleven nearby as well.

Nothing

The room is large and very comfortable, the bathroom is also large and like most hotels in Japan they provide amenities. the location is excellent, close to several traditional restaurants and two blocks from the metro, there is a seven eleven in front and it is very close to the center where they sell traditional items. The hotel staff are very polite and the rooms are very clean. The hotel is excellent for those who want to stay away from the noise and want a more reserved stay.

I loved the location, size of the room, Staff, bathroom.

I did not like we had no option to a room with a queen bed and only 2 double beds, so i had to sleep in a separate bed form my partner every night. I did not like that if the room was ready before check in time, they requested an hourly fee to go into your room, even if it was ready to go and did nothing special to prepare it. I understand not committing to having the room ready, even if check in was an hour later than 99% of hotels in the world, but if the room was ready, why charge to let the guest in early? Left a bad taste... especially for a guest coming the second time and for 5 nights.

Hotel Rinn Gion Shirakawa exceeded all of our expectations. The calm atmosphere and impeccable service. A gem in the heart of one of Kyoto’s most picturesque neighbourhoods. Ideally located in Gion district, a short walk from the famous Shirakawa Canal, the hotel’s proximity to key attractions, two metro stations and major Bus depot makes it a fantastic location for exploring the city. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, modern comfort with traditional Japanese elements and impeccably clean. The minimalist decor with wooden finishes, and tatami mats makes it really cosy and warm. Our twin room was spacious and comfortable with 2 large beds and a couch. The bathroom was equally impressive with twin washbasins, separated shower room with bathtub and a toilet. The staff is warm and very welcoming, Charlotte and her colleagues are very attentive, always going the extra mile to ensure we had a wonderful experience. Received a ton of local recommendations, their hospitality was outstanding. We felt truly cared for during our stay, and their personal touch made all the difference. Sure to return in the near future

Nothing really

The room was very nice, spacious with a small tatami seating area. The bathroom was excellent, with a separate toilet cubical inside the larger bathroom, both with real/solid doors, and a very nice shower. It came with shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, as well as things like toothbrushes, hairbrushes and razors, and had nice lighting. The location was great for a first trip to Kyoto, in the historic Gion district but on a fairly quiet street, near the river/bridges and metro stops. Our room faced the street and we had no issues with noise.

The bed was quite firm and the pillows were the thin feather type that compress into flat nothing within minutes of putting your head down. This was a theme at every hotel we stayed at in Japan though(and plenty of people prefer it!) The laundry machine also didn't seem to fully work - people before us advised that it couldn't really dry clothes after multiple attempts. We found a nearby laundromat that worked out well.

The property was in a great location with spacious rooms and helpful staff. The hotel door locked overnight, and only guests could access it with a key, which felt nice and safe. We kept our bags behind reception until check in and after a day exploring they had been moved to our room for us. There were also some free toiletries like bath salts and hair oil that you could help yourself to.

The bins weren’t emptied daily. You accumulate a lot of rubbish in Japan because there aren’t many public bins out and about, so we had rubbish piled up next to the bins in our room.

There is nowhere to put things in the rooms: shelves, cupboards,etc so it is impossible to unpack properly if one is staying 2-3 weeks. The staff are mostly not Japanese and I miss some of the standard Japanese courtesies. Also, although quite nice, their response to every question about Kyoto (in English or Japanese ) is “I don’t know” or “I can’t do that”. This is very personal, but I am elderly and have arthritis. I would very much appreciate some rooms having a desk and chair or sofa and table at European height.

Modern comfortable accommodation in a perfect location between the main shopping districts and tourist attractions of Kyoto. Room is large for Japan and hotel is in quiet area with convenience store across the street. Bathroom is large, with separate wet room with powerful shower. We stayed three nights and really enjoyed it.

Early check-out and late check-in times, even for Japan. No cleaning by default - you have to empty your own bins and change towels at reception, which seems at odds with the standard of accommodation.

The hotel was amazing. The hotel provided everything we needed for a stay in the city. We were able refill our water, wash clothes and much more. The staff was lovely. Due to the weather we struggled a lot with the heat and the women from the reception were more than supportive. The room was very spacious and clean for 3 person. It was one of the bigger rooms we had during our Japan trip. The location was great too. Very close to the subway, great restaurants and stores nearby. We will definitely come back and we would recommend it to anyone coming to Kyōto.
