Unique location, just outside the center of Helsinki, at the edge of a small peninsula that juts out into a maze of water and forested islands, this hotel manages to balance tranquility, with gastronomy, architecture and nature. I’ve stayed in many many hotels, but nothing like this - it may have been one of the best allround experiences ever. The building is well-preserved 70s architecture; long lines, oak wood and brushed concrete slabs. Rooms are spacious and bright and were updated quite recently. Bathrooms are clean and well-organized; excellent water pressure. Spotless maintenance. Service is professional and kind; open to requests and suggestions. There’s a decently-sized indoor pool, suitable for those wanting to get some laps in at the start of the day. A pier juts out into the water, allowing a courtside seat for summery sunsets. I didn’t use the sauna but, hey, this is Finland, I’m sure it will be on par. They host weddings in a dedicated space next to the restaurant, but the layout is such that there is actually no noise coming from that at all. Parking is amply available and there is a convenient connections to public transport nearby (public bikes for 10 euros per week and a subway station at 10 minutes walking. Time to central Helsinki is probably 20-25 mins. The natural surroundings are unforgettable; spruces dot the coastline, mossy big boulders here and there, as if dropped by giants. Terns and cormorants patrolling the shallows. If your aim is to relax with quiet and lovely views, come here. Lastly the food: the hotel harbours a professional restaurant, Platz, which serves a buffet breakfast featuring hot and cold options, various juices and a large terrace. They also offer very good dining in the late afternoon and evenings; properly delicious local menu options, combined with super friendly service. For those seeking gluten-free, this restaurant has no issues with that at all.

There really is nothing that comes to mind - I had the greatest of times and was sorry to go.

Yes, a stay in Hanasaari/Hanaholmen is not that cheap but it is 100% worth it. We are so glad we chose this hotel. It is located on a small island that feels just enough remote to enjoy the nature but can be reached by metro in 10 min + 10 min walking. You wake up with the most beautiful views of the see, great and stylish art and 70ies design. The rooms are individually designed with an eye for design details and very comfortable to stay in. But the best thing by far is the so pretty pool. This might have been the nicest pool I have ever swam in, really beautiful interior design and a great view into the snow, the sea and nature. Also the staff was very friendly and helpful at all times. Breakfast is good, we especially enjoyed the freshly baked brownie bits and smoothies. I am so so glad we treated ourselves to three nights in this hotel. And no, I am not a hotel employee, just really into Hanasaari now :-) I have attached some pics of the pool and the nature on the island in winter.

You should be aware that the walk to the next metro station is 10-15 minutes long, but you path a nice marina.

Really liked the marvellous picturesque location The timeless design of the interiors (rooms included) is really impressive (although rooms could use some more storage capacity like a bigger wardrobe). Friendly staff do speak excellent English. Food is a mixed bag - on the positive note dinners at the restaurant are pretty good. And last but not least the sauna and swimming pool are amazing - with an option to jump into the cold Baltic Sea from the pier in between your sauna sessions.

Breakfasts - the food is of good quality (no artificial crap) but is boring and the selection is very very limited. This might be okay if you are there for a quick conference but we were there for a few days. If you’re with kids, the choice is down to almost nothing (no regular cereal, no pancakes). Also, no coffee machine so cappuccino lovers will be severely disappointed.

A stunning location with a stunning design. The place has a distinct character and is full of art. The surrounding area is well mantained, quiet and relaxing. Free and easy parking. Fantastic location. Good breakfasts. If you are okay with the minor inconveniences, it's perfexr

Bathroom was a bit too small and the floor was not heated. After a single use you ended with with a cold wet floor or a forever wet towel. The water temperature was not freely controllable, ranging mostly in the mid-range. I also missed complementary jugs of lemonade or at least water in the SPA area - other hotels have in standard. The robes were 10euros extra to rent. Window vents were not cleaned at all, full of old spiderwebs and bugs. The restaurant had no fresh lemonade.

We were really pleasantly surprised by the historical significance of this hotel which was celebrating its 50th year. Built in 1975 and recently renovated, it has lots of 70s charm. The location is quiet and beautiful, a peaceful retreat. Breakfast was very good - hot and cold buffet. We ate in the Plats restaurant and were very pleased with the quality and presentation of the food. In addition there is a small cafe serving hot and cold drinks and a selection of food. Lovely views around the hotel to the sea and modern art/sculptures provided interest in and outside the building.

To clarify, although called on bookings.com Hotel Hanasaari the hotel is known locally as Hotel Hanaholmen.

This hotel is absolutely amazing in Finland, maybe the best in Finland? The hotel works like a new Lexus car: the staff is great, the rooms are clean and the rooms smell clean and fresh. The floors in the room are real wood and therefore suitable for allergy sufferers. The environment is absolutely wonderful and in the middle of nature and the sea. Free large parking lot and taxis nearby can be ordered from the reception with a few minutes' delay. The public metro is about 1 km and a 15-minute walk away in Koivusaari. This hotel also has a wonderful history, e.g. Finland's most famous and perhaps the best President UKK Urho Kekkonen often took saunas in the hotel's sauna with the King of Sweden, and you can listen to his speech and conversation in the sauna on tape. And you can swim in the sea. And the hotel room has a minibar with beer, wine and chocolate ready for you. Ask more at the reception.

I loved this place! It was so unexpected to have all this original art inside and outside (sculptures) the hotel. It was a mid-century modern Scandinavian styled hotel, so right up my alley. I travelled into Helsinki for my conference by e-scooter or bicycle - very easy 20-ish minute commute and so worth it to feel like you are staying on your own little island. Lovely pool and sauna, plus you can easily take a dip in the sea if it is warm enough The staff were all super-helpful. The restaurant there was excellent, as were the other option of Tapas in the downstairs bar.

Location is great: easy to get to, but among the nature, right by the sea side. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The surrounding area is beautiful. I liked the breakfast variety, and the restaurant dinner was outstanding. Really tasty and beautiful!

In the night it was raining hard and it made terrible sound banging on the window board. The cleaning of the rooms is at fairly good level, but could be a bit more careful, as I found little stones, sand, dust and a key card under the beds. The hotel could perhaps equip the spa area or rooms with helpful Finnish sauna etiquette guidance, because some tourists seemed to be so surprised by it.

Location of the hotel on the island creates a magical atmosphere, spacious and comfortable rooms, magnificient view, charming staff, excellent food, free rental bikes and nearby metro station make travelling to the city center and surroundings easy, cozy sauna and pool, quiet and calm atmosphere All these features make this place highly recommendable

There is not much negative to say - if there is anything at all. While writing this I can not thing of anything and would have to get creative to identify some negative critique. So I will leave it at that. There is nothing major!

The hotel architecture is great, it has a lot of personality. The rooms are big, with nice views and super comfy. It is also very well located, we arrived from Helsinki by bus very easily. You can cycle or walk to nearby beaches to have a swim and the landscape even just around the hotel is just beautiful. We enjoyed walking around the hotel and seeing the art/sculptures. The combination of sauna, pool and morning breakfast was very good.

Dinner was a bit of hit and miss, the food is great but the service can vary depending on how busy the restaurant is, despite booking in advance.
