The theme is super charming!!! The room was clean and the staff was so warm, friendly and helpful. Comfy beds and nice toiletries. My initial thoughts were “this isn’t as bad as the reviews said”. The building is older, but it’s clean and everything works.
You can hear outside noises through the walls, I did not sleep very well because of this. I played white noise and it helped, but did not completely cover the sounds of the road nearby. I went through booking.com and was supposed to get the genius discount. I ended up being charged the full amount at the time of checkout, which ended up being $50 more. Which defeated the purpose of booking the Thunderbird Inn over other options.

Great location. It has parking what is difficult to find in historic Savannah.
They don’t do the room. It is like an apartment. You don’t get new towels etc. When we asked they told us that we should have requested the service at check in but we were never informed that rooms were serviced only if requested. At 3pm, when we asked l, they told us the cleaning person was gone for the day. This is becoming ridiculous in hotels in the USA. They charge the same rate per day if you stay one, two or more days and with the excuse of the pandemic they want to get away without providing services. The Pandemic emergency was lifted long ago.

The location was wonderful in that it was very close to the tourist areas of Savannah. Everything was in walking distance. It was nice to have the free donuts in the morning and it was nice to have the lemonade and popcorn in the afternoon. The hotel is really what you would expect at a two-star hotel with the couple of fun extras.
There's music playing outside and in the lobby of the hotel which is fine, gives it a little retro quirkiness. However, I had a room close to the office and that music played in my room as if I had a radio turned on in my room until 9:00 p.m. at night and that got very old very quickly. The room was clean but the bathroom could have used a little more cleaning. The first time I took a shower when I got into the shower there was hair from a prior guest in a little clump on the shower floor. Despite these little annoyances. I would definitely stay here again if I were to visit Savannah. I don't think these minor things are enough to deter anyone from staying at this little quirky place from the past!

WE WANTED TO STAY BECAUSE WE HEARD OF THE RC COLA AND MOONPIES. WHICH WE GOT! THE BEDS WERE COMFY.
I DIDNT LIKE THAT THERE WAS NO WHERE TO PUT YUR CLOSE EXCEPT A FOOT LONG PLACE TO HANG A FEW THINGS, WHICH OK IF YOUR TRALING ALONE, BUT FOR A FAMILY NOT SO GREAT. THE WATER PRESSURE WAS POOR, BUT THE BATHROOM WAS CLEAN. AND WE DIDNT KNOW TILL THE DAY BEFORE WE LEFT WAS THE STAFF DOESNT COMIN INTO YOU ROOM TO FRESHIN UP OR ANYTHING ONCE YOU CHECK IN, YOU CAN ASK FOR IT AND THEY WILL DO IT, BUT ITS NOT SOMETHING THAT THEY JUST DO. AND THE CABLE. FOR THE PRICE THAT WE PAID FOR THE ROOM AND IN TODAY DAY AND AGE THAT THEY WOULD HAVE SMART TVS OR BETTER CABLE. THERE WERE ONLY A FEW CHANNELS AND MOST ARE SPORTS OR THE NEWS.

The Thunderbird Inn is" a retro 50's style motel complete with popcorn in the lobby and "oldies" music piped outside. Breakfast is coffee and a wonderful array of tasty donut treats in the lobby. The location is a 10 minute walk to the Savannah riverside and access from the highway is easy. Parking is an added $22 per day. Rooms are comfy and it was very quiet. We loved our stay and will certainly stay again when we revisit Savannah. Be sure to visit the J.W. Marriott hotel in the riverside plant district. You will be amazed at the sights in the lobby. Be sure to wander into the BaoBab bar for the african themed decor.

One of the most nostalgic places to stay in the US. I always stay here for work every couple of weeks. PERFECT location, easy access for ride share also. Everything is in walking distance. Front desk staff always helpful, room always stocked. Plenty of modern hotels in the area, but no retro vintage spots like Thunderbird. Hope this helps whomever might be on the fence about booking here. 10/10
!The pet area kind of smells funny, but it's worth the trade off to get to hang out with the guests that travel with their pets. Definitely doesn't affect my decision on booking.

We LOVED how dog friendly they were! Luna had her own bowls and a bed. They had a little dog park on the side for her. They had treats all day at the front desk for her. They also gave her a huge treat and a cute little name-tag decoration. We loved the FREE donuts they had every morning and all day. They had delicious popcorn and juices. The inn is also very cute. We definitely would come back with our doggie! It’s also a great location from everything. We never drove anywhere we always walked! 10/10 recommend!
The night was a little noisy but I carry my sound machine everywhere so we were set.

The minute we walked in, you could smell the cleanliness of the room. The front desk staff was always friendly and helpful, the breakfast consisted of freshly made donuts and coffee/milk/juice....although it wasn't a typical hotel breakfast, we truly enjoyed eating them every morning. The location was perfect for walking downtown. The price was not bad in comparison to hotels right along the river. And the theme of the hotel was perfect for the location!
Although the area was safe, I didn't appreciate the homeless people who'd walk up begging for money. It's an open parking lot and rooms are facing outward, so it's accessible to people just walking up off the street.

The rooms are quite big, comfortable king bed, efficient A/C, and quite noise cancelling. The room comes with two local sodas and two local pastries, which was a nice touch. Quite weird that the included breakfast has no protein in it, but the donuts are great. I saw a pet relief area, two electric vehicle charging stations, and an ice machine. The location right in front of the bus station saved me when all buses were cancelled for Hurricane Helene.
The receptionist working on 9/26/24 around noon and 9/27/24 around 5 pm (lady, very short almost red hair, white skin) is extremely rude. Totally unhelpful, evidently disliking her job. She even corrected my foreign pronunciation in an almost condescending way, acting as if she didn't understand me—I may have an accent, but I've worked for americans for the past 3 years and have never had to repeat myself to be understood. The other three people who I had the pleasure of being attended by were friendly, kind, helpful, and actually reassuring within the context of Hurricane Helene.

I loved the decor and theme of the whole hotel that it has going on, Price was very reasonable, and we had good connected rooms and it was mostly clean and comfortable. If we're in Savanah, GA I would stay there again. A/C was perfect as it was 94° outside at night in early August. We Recommend Stoner's Pizza was very tasty but, we woke up late and couldn't get any fresh donuts in the hotel lobby or coffee in the morning so we had to get going for our 2nd leg of our trip to Florida. Thank you again for a great experience there.
Woke up too late to get the Donuts and coffee. Mostly our fault.
