The KJH is in the very middle of Oslo's VERY busy city center. Everything you'll want to access is either walkable or easy to get to by bus or train from the KJH. The hotel is grand, and while it exudes elegance, it's approachable without being overly fussy. Our small, comfortable room was quiet, considering the hustle and bustle of everything going on in the town center. KJH serves a nice breakfast, though there was a bit of frustration with our early departure on our second morning. Apparently, we asked for a breakfast-to-go too late for the kitchen to accommodate; however, two separate front desk staff assured me we'd be taken care of the next morning. Lo and behold, there was nothing ready for us when we left in the early morning for the airport. It wasn't a big deal, but we definitely could have prepared far better had we first been forewarned at check-in or later if we'd been told the kitchen was unable to accommodate our late request. That whole incident was poorly handled by multiple levels of staff and needs better customer service attention so KJH's future guests don't have the same hassle and frustration. Other than that little mishap, the KJH staff was really, really great. I will recommend the KJH to any of my friends and family traveling to Oslo. I'd also like to make a shout-out to a restaurant where we ended up eating four times over two days because it was just so delicious: Spor Av Nord at Tollbugata 7B, Oslo 0152 +47 973 44 010. It's off the beaten path, on the way to the Opera House. We ended up trying nearly everything on their menu. Every dish was a delight!

We would stay here again…in a bigger room 183 sq ft was cramped. Bed next to hall door. Bathroom door hit the tv. Thermostat behind the tv! (Room 306). Get the biggest room you can afford. Bathroom functionality 6. Water flows under shower door and walls. Tiny space. Needed more shelving and better makeup lighting. Noise level from upstairs and hall 7. Maze getting to the dungeon, I mean gym. Don’t go alone if you are female or at risk of injury.

Karl Johan Hotel in Oslo was outstanding! The breakfast was delicious with a great variety, the location was perfect—right in the heart of the city—and housekeeping was impeccable, keeping our room spotless daily. A truly delightful stay with top-notch service. Highly recommended for comfort, convenience, and quality. Special thanks to Lena (the housekeeping lady) on most days—her attention to detail and dedication made our stay even more comfortable.

The only downside was the lack of tour packages or excursion options offered by the hotel, which would have added more convenience for guests exploring Oslo.

A well appointed breakfast bar with lots of options! The room has a skylight over almost the entire room making it light and open. Staff helpful. Excellent location along the park and close to the National Theater tram and train station. Easy walk to many of the beautiful sites the city has to offer.

Our room was in an adjunct building location and was a maze to get to, through the breakfast room. For our short time there we sadly chose an inner courtyard view room. Was very small but was probably quieter than a street view would have been. It had all we needed and was well appointed for the small space, just no space for open luggage and we were constantly walking over it and ourselves.

The hotel was charming and in a brilliant location - close to everything. We walked from Central Station to the hotel but if you have large, heavy bags, it's probably a bit far to do this. The hotel arranged a taxi for us to the train station upon departure. I had pre-booked train tickets return to Central Station but I believe that there may be a train station closer to the hotel. The room was very nice (spacious, bed very comfy) as was the bathroom (extremely spacious and modern). The restaurant for breakfast was huge as was the food selection.

There was no restaurant for dinner on-site but it really didn't matter - there are so many restaurants within walking distance!

The location of this hotel is great, easy walking to everywhere in the city. Easy access to restaurants. Despite the fact that the hotel is in a very busy location, the room was very quiet - great sound insulation (we were on the 4th floor). Breakfast was amazing and staff were friendly and helpful throughout. The rooms were clean.

The one downside was the hotel wi-fi. It is an unsecured connection, which is not great to begin with. But also, the strength of the signal was very poor so I couldn't really use it.

Wonderful location within walking distance to so many of Oslo’s attractions and close to transportation. The airport train was extremely convenient, just 5 or so minute walk to hotel. Our room had big windows and was nicely appointed. I thought the bed was a little hard—but my husband thought it was very comfortable. The included breakfast buffet is the best I’ve ever had at hotel. There were so many options, including for vegetarians (great vegetable egg frittata). I was surprised by the delicious fresh baked bread and pastries.

Most Positive Experience – A Perfect Stay! This was by far one of the best hotel stays I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful, kind, and attentive, making me feel truly welcome. The room was spotless, beautifully designed. The breakfast was exceptional—fresh, delicious, and with plenty of variety to suit every taste. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was warm, relaxing, and perfectly suited for both leisure and business. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. Everything was perfect for my stay, and I can’t wait to come back again. This hotel is an absolute must-stay!

The location is perfect for exploring the city 10/10. the breakfast is also incredible, you have everything you could ask for. The rooms we had were quiet and you really didn’t hear anything, even tho your in the middle of the city. Loved that!

When we arrived, the staff at the reception was not friendly and helpful at all, they might have had a bad day. When we got our rooms, they didn’t tell us that we were on the other end of the hotel and that we had to take our big suitcases a floor up the stairs because the elevator didn’t go all the way. It would have been nice to know and maybe get some help with our luggage. The next staff at the reception was really nice and friendly. In the rooms we had there was carpet floor, which I don’t like that much.

The location of this hotel is perfect. It's close to everything you'd want to see and a short walk from the train station. It's a beautiful building as well. The staff was nice and the breakfast was awesome, one of the best of any place I've ever stayed at. I would definitely stay here again.

Getting to the breakfast area or the fitness area was kind of like walking through a maze based on the part of the hotel your were staying in. I assume it was based on how the building was originally designed. Not a big deal though.
