The location is very central with lovely views over the river and best of all PARKING onsite. The Staff were very friendly and helpful, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean and well stocked with tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh milk. We had friends staying too and we all enjoyed a lovely meal in the bar. The breakfast was really good too.

It was a nice room but we had to crawl ove the bed to get into as it was squeezed into a space not big enough to allow us to walk round it or to house a small bedside table. There was a shelf above our heads with lamps and room for phone/book/glass of water etc but you have to kneel up to reach it. It was OK for one night as there was no alternative and we did book last minute. I'd stay there again but I'd check which room when booking.

The location is a picture postcard. All the food served is exquisite. The room was large, bright, airy, and really comfortable. Staff were exceptionally amiable.

I have one gripe, but no-one can be held accountable: being on a lower floor of the hotel meant that each and every footstep in the room directly above mine shook the ceiling with the loudest creaks I've ever heard in a building before. Look, it's an old building, but it meant that I could not settle down to sleep until the guests in the room above did so too. So please note that if you choose to stay here, do what you can to secure any of the rooms on the upper floor.

What a gem of a find. Stayed in Rm 5. Such a big room. double ended bath in there with a separate large shower room and toilet. Large comfortable bed with nice sized TV if you want it. But it's the little things that make it. The tea making facilities with hot chocolate better than average coffees and fresh milk to go with it. The umbrella holder for wet brollies. The box of tissues, The little ornaments. All of these things make the room and the stay that much better. Downstairs there's a good selection of drinks in the lovely old fashioned but modern at the same time bar and restaurant, with an open fire. Can't really comment on food as we only had a bowl of chips and breakfast, but the bowl of chips was huge. Not some modern little basket. However, the breakfast was massive and superb. The owners have gone to great lengths to make this what it is and when we move, not far from Totnes next year, this will become our local for a drink.

My room was beautifully furnished with a roll top bath that I enjoyed each night . The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious enough to practice yoga. It’s an old property so understandably I could hear every move of creaky floor from guests above me :) There was a lovely choice of tea and “real” coffee and fresh milk was available in a fridge in a corridor between rooms.Harriet and the team were friendly and very helpful - many thanks for a lovely stay.

A small fridge in the room would be a bonus . Sadly the bubble bath product wasn’t refreshed even though I’d asked but it was a minor inconvenience and I still enjoyed a relaxing experience.

Very comfortable room, clean and fabulous bathroom.

We booked with booking.com and upgraded to a bigger room on the site unfortunately this knocked off the breakfast included (we didn’t check just assumed it carried forward) so was a shock to be charged an extra £30 a day for breakfasts when we left. It’s an old building with creaky floors and we had a family in the room above us with a toddler which ran around from 6.30 am for the 2 mornings we were there - so book the top floor if you want quiet. I thought The room was too expensive for a pub, unfortunately Totnes did not have much availability elsewhere the dates we stayed.

This is my 4th or 5th stay at the Steam Packet Hotel. My last stay was in 2017, so it was great to return. I had the same room as my last visit which was really comfortable and the ensuite with walk-in shower is very well finished with heated towel rail. The guest rooms are accessible by stairs only. There is parking at the hotel and the staff (who were excellent) reserved a space for me in advance. The location on the river is relaxing and the outdoor beer garden is a great place to relax. There is a good selection of drinks at the bar and I had a nice meal in the restaurant in the evening. I'd definitely go back and stay again.

There is very little to dislike about the Steam Packet Hotel. While parking is limited at the hotel, there is a paid car-park 5 minutes away. As long as you can carry a suitcase up stairs, it is a great place to stay.

This is a fantastic place. The setting is wonderful, looking out over the river. We were lucky enough to be there when there was a high spring tide and it was impressive!! The view from our room was beautiful. The staff were really lovely; helpful and relaxed but attend our needs. We ate in the restaurant the first night and enjoyed a very good meal. The town of Totnes was wonderful; full of very unusual shops, good cafes and excellent restaurants. We visited Greenway house( former family home of Agatha Christie) it is a real must do!

The whole experience was excellent

Lovely stay - my third visit. Room was clean and bathroom spotless with nice toiletries, staff were very friendly and welcoming and breakfast was great - very tasty. Nice range of beers and wines. Wish the weather had been nicer so we could have sat outside.

£15 for a Bacon Sandwich option at breakfast seemed a bit steep. The room information sheet and the blackboard outside both said food was served until 9pm on a Sunday, however when we arrived to eat at 8.40ish we were told the kitchen had closed at 08.30. The sheets also smelt a bit "bleachy".

Staff were excellent and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Location was brilliant and close to the town center,;even for my wife and her broken ankle. An evening drink overlooking the estuary is a welcome addition.

While we were given a first floor room, there is no elevator and the stairs are narrow and twisting. However, the Inn is old and characterful, so is what it is.

The location is excellent, and we were able to get parking at the venue during our stay - we were able to use the staff parking when the hotel parking was full. The staff were very helpful, and the food at the pub was very good, including the breakfasts. We had dinner there on two nights, and were very happy with it. Very close to the town centre, but quiet at night (we stayed Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights). The pub itself has a nice feel, and we had some drinks there one afternoon as well. Rooms were serviced daily and there were plenty of good sized towels. The main bed in our room was very comfortable.

We couldn't get a twin room, so we took the family room, but the smaller bunk bed wasn't as comfortable as the main bed. I also can't imagine getting a family in such a small room! It's probably better suited to just two people who share a bed. The only other issues are to do with the age of the building - narrow stairs, no lift, and the hot water is not really hot in the morning (but certainly is much better by the evening). But that's exactly what you'd expect in an old inn! It wouldn't stop me staying there again.
