Beautiful to look at and set in nice maintained gardens. Just lovely. Easy to find way around, check in and it met all my needs. Spotlessly clean and immaculate. Tastefully decorated. I loved the bathrobe and slippers provided, which were soft and comfy. Details of how you could buy one if you wanted. The staff were always very friendly and helpful.

As a single, I had a ‘snug’ room, double bed , tv and hanging space. The ironing board, hairdryer in a bag and iron, were hanging or amongst the hangars , I could see why literally no room for much else . The en-suite was very compact too, a large person would struggle I feel to sit on loo properly, as it was so close to hand basin. I thought that breakfasts were a little overpriced, you could have silver service in dining room or delivered to your room. It was more ‘fancy’ than honest, which I would have preferred. My air conditioning also wasn’t working properly on the first night, it was freezing in my room and warmer outside in the corridor. I had to ring reception and a lady came and fiddled with it and eventually got it working.

Great location in the centre of York with easy parking. Very interesting collection of buildings, lots of character and beautifully maintained grounds. Comfortable, well equipped room with large bathroom. Tranquil - we slept very well. Great bar for late-night drinks (esp the York Gin!). Lots of tempting seating areas dotted around the main building. Very nice breakfast, although the layout of the room is a bit awkward with noisy movement of staff in and out of the kitchen. Good quality food, though.

The hotel itself was very picturesque. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfy. There was a fridge with water and cute little bottles of milk for the tea/hot chocolate they provided. They also gave delicious ginger snap cookies. The breakfast had a little buffet section, and you ordered your main meal from a little menu. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The location was amazing, a few minutes walk to a Sainsbury Local (little store) and to the city center. It is only a few minutes car ride to the train station. I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

There was no elevator in my building and I needed to carry all my bags up to the third floor. The woman at the front desk did offer to help but she was smaller than me and I felt bad accepting. As a female traveler, I do say only bring what you can carry hahahaha.

The location is great being in easy walk of the city centre. We had a ground floor room but overall the site is on a slope which did give us some challenges. Nothing the hotel can do to mitigate this but it might be worth letting others with mobility issues know what they are in for. The room had air con and a fridge, I always think a fridge deserves bonus points! Much prefer fresh milk to the little tubs, it feels more considerate.

Only one easy chair which is not unusual for hotels but means one of us is either sat in the 'office' chair or perched on the bed. At 70 and 87 years it's not the best for our comfort.

Property has the prettiest garden, really lovely spot. Check in staff were friendly. Bed was quite comfortable and found my room to be quiet in the evenings. Walking distance to the bridge that leads to the city centre.

I found the note from the GM stating that housekeeping won’t touch your belongings a bit strange, as I just expect that. Thus I opted to not have HK visit my room during my stay - back in my room the next day to freshen up I overheard HK in the room across from me banging things and swearing/groaning angrily about the guests. Ultimately was glad my initial unease with that note had me choose to put my DND sign on my door.

We stayed in one of the cottages with our teenage sons, the room was the best family room we have ever stayed in, it was roomy, well designed and tastefully decorated. Breakfast was very good and the staff at breakfast were very attentive and friendly. The position of this hotel is brilliant for exploring York, a 2 minute walk and your in the centre of things. The only reason I haven't given this stay 10 is due to the meal on the first night we had tapas which we we didnt enjoy, we ate out for the other nights. We would definitely recommend and return.

Beautiful hotel, excellent location, very friendly and helpful staff, excellent accommodation (we stayed in a family cottage), extremely well appointed, clean and comfortable. The on site parking was great for us, albeit limited, we were lucky enough to get a parking spot. Breakfast was okay, we didn’t eat any other meals at the hotel so can’t comment on them. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the centre of York and everything it has to offer. With the warmer weather being experienced during our stay, air-conditioning was also a welcome feature. Highly recommend the Middletons Hotel.

The way breakfast was made to order was a bit slow and clunky, and whilst ithe food was okay, it wasn’t great.

This was a weekend for my partners birthday, Holly and Hilary on reception helped organise afternoon tea and ensure champagne in the room. Holly went out of her way to make us feel special and introduce herself to us she is an excellent member of your team. Maria was also excellent on reception, food was lovely and service was great. Room was lovely and good value for money. We have already booked for a new stay in September.

The hotel advertises white company toiletries so I didn't bring my own but there were only little bottles for the bath area which were used on the first day they then weren't replenished for the second day, Room was cleaned to a good standard but the empty bottle of champagne, ice bucket etc were left in the room so we had to clear ourselves.

Lovely atmosphere and excellent staff.

Housekeeping could have paid more attention , I am aware they have time constraints but as a four star hotel, management should ensure that there are enough staff to complete the task to a four star standard. My only bugbears were minor ones, previous occupants receipts still in drawer along with their watch charger, as we stayed for two nights I would have expected the cups to be changed for clean ones and tea, coffee, milk and other such items to be replenished this was not the case and upon reading other reviews once home I find I am not alone in expecting such a basic expectation to be met.

I emailled the hotel prior to staying to request a ground floor room preferably, or as close to the ground floor as we could get due to chronic health conditions for 1 couple, unfortunately we got a room on the first floor as far away as possible from the ground floor, and surprisingly, although both rooms were booked at the same time, we were allocated rooms away from one another.

I had to ask for the black metal cabinet in our room to be cleaned as it was thick with old dust, to the point where I could (and did) write in it. The receptionist was very sweet but said that the housekeeper had gone home for the day, she offered to come and clean it herself but that didn't seem to be appropriate, so we elected to have it cleaned the following day. A bit off putting to be fair, to see that it hadn't been cleaned for a very long time.
