Lovely building and room with periods features(image of my rooms ceiling added) Its legit a 2 minute walk from lab11/lunar springs (with that in mind you will hear music untill 3-4am) so a perfect room to stay in if your staying out for the night. If you are after a quite weekend I wouldn't recommend this on the weekend, however if your visiting lab11/lunar springs or any of the other lovely music venues in digbeth this is right in the centre. View from the room of the beer garden was also nice for people watching (pub shut at 1am and the garden so isn't open tooo late image of the view is below) Staff are lovely polite and more then willing to help, bonus points for the secuirty/manager that were in that night and advised on shop and helped me re-access the building.

When you've had abit to drink I wish you luck in getting the key in the door 🤣

The Old Crown is a very unusual and historic place to stay. Obviously, the building has all the features of a very, very old place (built in the second half of the fourteenth century and now thought to be Birmingham's oldest builting) - the stairs are steep and narrow, floors are uneven, and there are steps everywhere. However, it has been brought up to a very good standard of comfort for today, with a beautiful modern bathroom. We had the room on the first floor at the end of the inn, with views towards both the old library and across the street, where there is currently yet another huge development taking place. Makes you wonder just how much the area around the inn has changed in around 650 plus years. There are very old metal windows, but there is also secondary glazing, so the room is not draughty or especially noisy (there is some traffic noise inevitably, as the inn is on a busy road, but overnight it was quiet). The room was large, the bed comfy, the decor in keeping with the history of the place with some antique furniture, but very comfortable overall. We noticed that there were very frequent buses passing during the daytime so, although we were just visiting a friend's studio in Digbeth, it looked like it would be easy to get in and out of the city centre by public transport, as there are bus stops nearby. I would stay here again for an event in Birmingham. Somewhere a bit different, with a lot of history. Didn't see any ghosts though! Another time, we would probably have dinner there too, as the menu seems very good.

It would have been nice to have had the option of breakfast at the inn, but we found a great cafe (and retro clothing/vinyl/comic book store) round the back of the Old Library, so breakfast wasn't an issue. Although the inn doesn't have its own parking, Trinity car park is a short walk away and offers 24 hour parking. Unfortunately, it was cash or parking app only (no cards!) which was a bit of a surprise, as you get used to having a card payment option everywhere these days.

The room was really big, with a sofa as well as a really comfy bed. The room was full of character, amazing to stay in such an old building, potentially built in the 1200s according to my reading of the info from the Old Crown's website. The en suite bathroom was also really big, and clean and modern. Door code access provided so we could get in and out without needing to speak to anyone. There was a lot of very late night noise from the club on the corner of the Custard Factory, particularly on Saturday night, but the Old Crown is a pub, and so we expected lots of noise. However, it didn't keep us awake, hubby sleeps like a log and I use ear plugs, so didn't cause a problem for us, but if you're concerned about noise, maybe book somewhere else. We would definitely re-book at the Old Crown so didn't bother us at all. Also there's no air con, we knew there wouldn't be, and the heatwave we've just had was exceptional. There was a little fan in the room.

There was nothing we didn't like - the noise and lack of air con wasn't a problem for us, just pointing it out for other potential guests

The old crown inn is over 600 years old. Plenty of character & charm. Stayed with my adult son in the twin room & shared bathroom. Very clean the room & shared bathroom. Great value for money & will definitely be booking again when Birmingham FC is playing at home as we are not local. Staff were friendly & very informative. Great stay. Thank you 😊

Nothing from our point of view.... 😊 However, if you want a quiet stay, especially when the football is on, this isn't for you!. The walls are very thin, which is just the age of the Inn. Beer garden & the Inn on the football nights are open until 1am. Very steep winding stairs to accommodation. Sophy.... The name of the nightclub opposite is very loud until early ours of the morning. I always like to give an honest review to help others choose the right stay & not blame the property/ accommodation.

- Ideal location for my purpose of stay - Great value for money (£50) - The pub itself is nice (good choice of beers as well) I've heard that the food is nice but sadly, I didn't get the chance to try them due to the delay in arriving into Birmingham. - Loved the wooden beams and features. - Fun, lively pub :) - The shared bathroom was absolutely fine (I was a little apprehensive beforehand but I didn't need to). - Shower was fine - 24 hour access - I was leaving around 7:30 am (checkout up to 10:00 am) so just left the keys in the room as advised, no issue - The staff showed me to my room, showed the exits etc and seemed friendly :)

- It was a little noisy BUT this was to be expected as your staying above a pub (take earplugs like I did and the problem is solved!). I am a really light sleep but with earplugs I had no issues with noise whatsoever. I was told the music tends to stop around midnight on a Friday (don't know if this was accurate as I was asleep!) - The location is great for the city centre but it is on a busy main road with traffic and other pubs/nightclubs (not that I experienced any issues with traffic and/or traffic noise) - The mattress was OK - I could feel the springs but it wasn't too uncomfortable as I clearly still managed to get a good night sleep. I would recommend to management that perhaps they look at the mattresses in the foreseeable future.

This is a lovely old hotel with real character and a fabulous history. The staff are accommodating and helpful and do their best to manage requests. The Manager went out of his way to help me with my concerns and I am grateful. The décor is traditionally old so do not expect the rooms to be very up to date but they are comfortable enough and the bed I had was very comfy. Overall, it worked for my stay but I bought ear plugs for my second night, plus I was given a complimentary meal and 2 drinks which was a very nice and welcome gesture. Thanks

This is a noisy pub at night so if you need sleep take ear plugs. They are working on developing their evening entertainment and have a DJ playing until around 12.30am (I stayed Friday and Saturday night). They are also building a stage for live bands. If you are up for the evening fun then this works well but if you need quiet to rest this isn't. Shared bathrooms are clean generally but again, if party goers are staying at the hotel and using shared facilities (and have had a bit to drink and have a poor aim!) then the loos are not as clean as they could be. This is the nature of the dual set up for the hotel I'd say as you cannot watch everyone and wipe down surfaces every time someone uses them. Also, free wifi didn't work for me sadly.

The Old Crown offers good value and is well situated for access to the city and stations. The historical building adds charm, making it easier to forgive floorboard creaks. The single room is small but comfortable enough and with washbasin, but no chair and very small wardrobe. The access stairs are steep and not suitable for those with limited mobility. Staff were helpful and cheerful. Being a pub, meals are available. Breakfast is not provided but morning options are not so far away. Good quality bathroom right next door, but not en suite.

The room was good value, so it’s unfair to be too critical despite the fairly basic nature of furnishings and fittings. Room key was a little old-fashioned and tricky to use, at least initially.

This was my second time staying at the Old Crown and I would highly recommend it. It's a wonderful historic building, staff were easy to deal with, getting in and out at night when the pub is closed was explained clearly. Nice spot for dinner too. Perfect location for a gig in the O2 Institute (which is why we were in town) and it's right by the coach station. Maybe 15 mins walk to New Street train station. The rooms aren't luxurious, but clean and comfortable, I would consider them very good for the price. Other members of our group stayed in a chain basic hotel much further away for twice the price. I'm not personally a fan of a shared bathroom but I chose this over other options for location and price.

There was a little noise but as it was a glorious Friday evening that was to be expected, and it didn't go on too late.

The Old Crown is a pleasure to stay in. The manager is a great guy. Friendly, helpful and always happy to stop for a chat, though obviously juggling a lot of daily responsibility. Staying is always fun. The staff are great and facilities. Attended my first event there Blur vs Oasis. Special shout out to the bouncer. What a great chap. So friendly and helped the night as went on my own. Great friendly crowd and managed a selfie with ' Liam Gallagher ' Hoping they put the Oasis tribute on again sometime (they were brilliant) and have some 80s synth/retro dj nights or a Depeche Mode tribute on sometime. I need an excuse to come back more. Keep up the great work guys. You do Birmingham and the historical old crown proud 👏

Nothing to complain about. Perfect place/stay

If you love history, charm, and a touch of nostalgia, this hotel is a perfect choice. While it may be old, it is immaculately maintained, offering a level of cleanliness and care that rivals modern establishments. Every corner is filled with fascinating antiques, making it feel more like a museum than a hotel, each piece telling a story of a bygone era. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with classic furnishings, vintage décor, and a unique character that you simply won’t find in contemporary hotels. The staff is incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable about the history of the place, adding to the overall experience. Despite its age, the hotel offers all the necessary comforts, with cozy rooms, comfortable beds, and well-kept facilities. If you appreciate history and character, this is a must-visit destination. it was a lifetime experience!
