Location was idea, walking distance to get to the o2 Academy, Bull ring shopping centre and New street train station. The family room was very nicely presented, clean & cosy. Was reasonably quiet, ( except for late night passers by, singing or shouting, couldn't figure out which. either way, that was not the hotels fault, in middle of a busy city it's to be expected, I just closed the windows in the bathroom.) All 3 of us slept very well. Staff were welcoming. Breakfast was nice too.

The hand rail, (being across the top of the tub, seemed strange placement,) was in the way for me to access the bath comfortably and at the wrong angle to lift myself out of the bath. The Hair drier took forever, to do my shoulder length hair. Just not as powerful as mine at home But was reasonably quiet to use..

Pros -Very close to Birmingham new street train station however you have to find stairway to get down a street level to get there or walk 8 minutes down a slope then around the back end of Chinatown -CCTV on the every floor & have to swipe key card to access the lifts so very secure -Very friendly & helpful staff especially when dealing with my requests for new towels & milks for tea/coffee -Windows in bathroom & bedroom that you can open for fresh air -Powerful shower pressure so enjoyed having showers every day -They have a heater in the room -There’s mirrors in the room that were helpful -There’s a kettle in room with tea bags/coffee sachets, sugar, to make teas& coffees & milk pots are provided -Overall room was clean & shower room was clean -overall location of the hotel is right in the middle of Chinatown, lots of restaurants, bakeries, & supermarkets, so fantastic if you like Chinese food which we did! But of course there were sushi restaurants, fried chicken restaurant, Greek restaurants as well. Also the hotel is close to the Bull ring shopping mall which is huge! —food in the ibis hotel restaurant is limited buy pizza tasted really good & drinks were great 😊 -also if you don’t have your bedrooms cleaned everyday, just put the door card to hang on the door handle to not have housekeeping & tell reception, who will issue a £5 voucher towards food & drinks at the bar! Which is great 👍🏼! Not sure how long this promotion will last though.

Cons -No air conditioning unit so could be problem in hot summer times -No hand towels -Very tiny shower room squashed in with toilet so it’s compact not enough space so if you’re 6 foot tall & of larger body build you will find the shower room tight fit! -Can slip in the shower despite foot grooves in the tray -Mattress is not that comfortable but it’s fine for 2 night stay. -Not enough wardrobe space to hang clothes -No sanitary bin or small bin in the shower room -couldn’t watch TV because there was no remote but forgot to ask staff for one

The location was perfect for us as it was within walking distance of the O2 Academy where we were attending an event & meant we could get there very easily. There is a secure underground carpark that's payable separately at reception (because the machine in car park was out of action). Spaces are limited & non reservable. The staff were really nice & helpful & the room was clean & comfortable.

For some reason the housekeeping started hoovering/ making a noise on the floor we were on at a really early hour ( I normally wake around 7) so this seemed a bit unnecessary. It woke my daughter up who had not set her alarm in the hopes of sleeping in a little on what was a day off & check out is at 12 noon.

location couldn’t be better for the price! we were here for an event! check in was a breeze! staff were lovely. room was small but clean and tidy. no problem with noise once both windows were closed shut, we did stay at the back of the hotel. bed was very comfortable and WiFi connection was great. we ordered in food from a pizza place called “Rudys Pizza” absolutely couldn’t recommend more if wanting to just have a night in and relax! pizza was 10/10!!

only thing I could critique is that our hairdryer was broken (by the crackling sounds of it anyway)🤣 and there was no fridge to keep anything cool.

There was a good breakfast selection. The staff were very friendly and helpful and worked with a pleasant smile on their faces which showed that they enjoyed their job. There was a nice atmosphere in the bar in the evening, and the seating was comfortable. The bar and dining area were clean and tidy, as were the bathrooms. The train station was within walking distance. There was a huge selection of very good restaurants close by. Twelve o'clock check out was great as we could relax after breakfast. We had an evening flight so it was great that the staff had no problem holding our luggage. We enjoyed staying here and will be back again.

The room was slightly smaller than usual. This was not an issue.

The staff were wonderful, very helpful, attentive and friendly and definitely made me feel safe as a solo traveller. The room was cosy and clean and perfect after a long day. The breakfast buffet was lovely everything was hot and fresh and very tasty. Check out was extremely fast and efficient! Overall, I was very happy with my stay and I would say it is definitely very good value for money.

Unfortunately (and this is my own fault, not the hotels) I failed to check the location. I didn’t realise that this hotel is located extremely close to a night club which on a Friday and Saturday night does not close until 4am. Luckily it wasn’t too loud for me as I am quite a heavy sleeper but I imagine certain rooms are likely to be a lot louder. Again, this is my fault for not checking the location thoroughly. I think it would be totally fine if your stay is during the week, but over the weekend it gets a little loud from 8pm onwards.

Very well positioned for someone coming by train, the property is quite well kept. The room was a decent size and quality given the price and its location is about as good as could be expected. Staff were quick to provide service and helped with resolving the two issues that arose over the time of my trip.

The issue I encountered twice over the three days I was there, the key card would stop working. Staff were quick to resolve the issue and it never got in my way during the trip but experiences may vary.

Close to the train station and easy to find. Very welcoming and easy to check in. 24hr reception and bar so was nice to come back from an event and unwind downstairs for awhile before heading off to bed. They had a couple of games tables in the bar like pool. 12pm check out so didn't feel rushed in the morning to leave. The room had mostly everything you needed like towels ,soap ,shampoo ect, sanitary bags, toilet roll, hot drinks and a hair dryer. I didn't ask if there was iron available as my clothes were ok without one. Situated in China Town ,so the area was beautiful to explore. I will book again in the future.

Just the cooling / heating fan. The windows are limited when open so the room takes awhile to cool down when it's warm outside, so we left the fan on and window open when we went out to keep room cool.

Wonderful, city centre location directly opposite the excellent Chung Ying Chinese restaurant. A lovely, warm welcome and ultra smooth check-in which was very nice indeed. All staff at the Ibis with whom I came into contact were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Room was very clean with all the usual amenities (great shower!) and everything worked perfectly. Buffet breakfast was exceptional! Full English (delicious, quality sausages and bacon!), toast, croissant, jams, cheeses, hams, various juices and the coffee was absolutely amazing! Managing the breakfast area was the delightful and efficient Ingrid, aways a pleasure to see her, a big smile and a lovely greeting every morning, She's a credit to Ibis Hotels as we're all the staff that I met. If you're planning to stay in Birmingham City Centre the Ibis is a great place to stay and it's incredible value for money!

November 2024

Stay here every November while attending the Classic Motor Show at the NEC. The hotel was just as I remembered and I want to particularly highlight the man who supervises the excellent breakfasts: this year and in previous he is always unstintingly friendly, polite and helpful... an absolutely lovely man.

It was mildly annoying that one of the lifts kept breaking down... when the hotel is busy as it was, it means having to wait much longer to get into a lift. Hardly a major problem but hadn't got anything else negative to say!!!
