I had a wonderful stay at this hotel and was immediately captivated by its distinctive architectural character. The building is a true gem, with a historical charm rarely found in modern accommodations. Walking through the property felt like stepping back in time, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the story behind its design. The hotel's restaurant served excellent fish and chips that were absolutely delicious. The property also offered ample on-site parking, which was very convenient. The bed was comfortable and I was particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the bathrooms and facilities on offer, which greatly enhanced my comfort during the stay. The hotel provided thoughtful touches that made a difference, including generous supplies of tea and coffee, canned water, and even biscuits in the room. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, always eager to assist with warm smiles.
While I noticed some signs of age, such as worn carpeting and faded paint with minor scuffs, most of these details actually added to the authentic, lived-in character of the place.

Wonderful building, super location, comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Especially enjoyed the terrace for summer relaxation. Excellent food, reasonably priced.
Our room was fairly basic, not helped by the very small shower being extremely difficult to control water temperature wise. It either ran stone cold or very hot. The television aerial feed had been disconnected although this was fixed for the second day of our stay. One of the bedside lights had also been disconnected (unplugged from the wall socket). Also the room overlooked a very rough and untidy yard used as a store for recyclables. To be fair, this wasn't our intended room as we opted to be moved on account of a potentially noisy party taking place near to the original room; the room in which we were relocated was quiet and peaceful.

Our room was clean and comfortable. All staff were polite, friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed our pre-booked evening meal with our party ordering chicken, steak and duck respectively. We enjoyed Eton Mess afterwards. We pre-booked breakfast at £10 per person, otherwise it would have been £11.99. There was a good choice of cereal, fruit, yogurt, croissants and a hot breakfast - self service.
I had indicated a bedroom on the ground floor would be appreciated via Booking.com as my husband has difficulty with steps but was advised that rooms for disabled people had been taken. He did manage the many steps within the hotel. A handrail would be very helpful near the steps leading to the seats/outdoor table area. A pot of tea or coffee is always preferable to a range of tea bags, sachets etc.... fine for within the bedroom, but not the restaurant (breakfast).

I booked 3 rooms for family who were staying for a wedding. The stay exceeded my expectations. The Hotel was spacious, set in beautiful grounds and the rooms were all large and clean. The staff were exceptional from the staff serving canapes and food at the wedding to the reception and breakfast staff and even the cleaner we had friendly efficient and flexible service and they couldnt have been more helpful. Great breakfast and lovely spacious breakfast room. I was in the Nell Gwyn room which had a spacious modern bathroom. The other two rooms had more dated bathrooms
I guess the bathrooms are being updated and it will be great when they are all done.

Been staying here on and off for over 30 years. The Hotel is an old building with plenty of character. The restaurant was very quiet when we went in 8.00pm (Friday night), The food was really nice and good value we couldn't fault it at all. The buffet breakfast was also very good and excellent value. The room (King James) was large with comfy 4 poster bed and a small old balcony. Very quiet on a night time and through the day, all we could hear with the windows open was the wind blowing the trees.
Cant say we didn't like anything but if you wanted to be critical at all you could say the decor is now looking a bit dated and tired and could do with a lick of paint etc. It's an old building so gets away with that more than a newer hotel would. The gardens don't seem as well kept as they used to be and could easily be tided up with no major effort.

Booked the hotel as it has outside space to wander so not limited to hotel building. Weather was good so sat with a drink on very nice terrace with view of trees.
Difficult to find the hotel. Although we were very close at one time we still couldn't find hotel entrance only the country park. This could be remedied by adding a few directions to the website or on an email. The hotel is historically interesting and can see why it is probably popular for weddings etc. however it is need of some repairs and decorating. Needs investment to make it really good.

I liked the room. The decor was a little 'tired' in places but, overall, with the quietness, it could not have been better. It was initially a little bit chilly, but had reached a pleasant ambient temperature (not chilly, but not too hot either) in time for lights out. That temperature was maintained throughout the night, leading to a very good night's sleep. I also liked the staff team. They were polite, friendly and professional.
One of the window's panes was badly cracked, and the cracks did not have any form of protection covering them. Also, these were sash windows, but they could not be opened, because the left hand side with the cracked pane appeared to have been painted shut and the right hand one could be opened a little, but not left to remain open on its own. Neither had its cords intact

My room was nice (room 7) and close to reception. Some of my friends were a little scattered and their rooms were further. Breakfast was really good although food intolerances need labels or we have to keep asking. Bed was good. Shower was good
Room was a bit noisy as I looked out onto the garden and the party room seemed to as well. Dinner selection as a vegan was a bit slim but catering did their best. I had salad veg and bread selection

I travelled here with my husband as I was one of the cast for the murder mystery and had planned to stay overnight as we had an onward event in Nottingham the following evening. The staff were fabulous and friendly , very informative. The building is historical and could do with a little TLC but this does not spoil the feel of the place. We loved the history behind it and how well laid out everything is for such an old building. Plenty of parking and lovely grounds and walks to be had. We didn't stay for breakfast so couldn't comment but the evening meal was lovely.
Nothing negative to say, would stay again
