Nice and close to the Barbican and an easy walk into the centre. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The pool and sauna were lovely and clean and a nice environment, towels provided and a costume spinner. The pool was a nice temperature and the pool room was nice and warm as well. The bed in our was really comfortable and we both slept like logs. We had lots of space in the room, and a fridge is always a bonus!

Nitpicking really but a few of the USB plugs next to the bed didn’t seem to work but there were others in the room that worked perfectly fine so only a minor issue really.

I recently stayed at Novotel York Centre and was truly impressed. The hotel is spotlessly clean, with a professional and very friendly staff who make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. One big plus for me is that the hotel is dog friendly – there’s a small extra charge, of course, but totally worth it for those travelling with their pets. Another key advantage is the on-site parking, available for all guests at a daily fee that’s reasonable, especially considering how expensive parking can be in York. The location is excellent – just about a 10-minute walk from the city centre, and the area around the hotel is full of restaurants and shops, making it very convenient. The only small downside is that although the hotel has a pool and sauna, access is only possible by advance booking and limited to 30 minutes per session. It’s not ideal if you’re hoping for a long, relaxing sauna or a proper swim. That said, everything else was outstanding, and I still give this hotel a solid 10/10. Highly recommended for anyone visiting York!

Breakfast

Our first room had a connecting joining door to the room next door which wasn't good as we could here everybody and scream from the family occupying it after we complained about it we were moved to a quieter room but the down side was the toilet was situated separate from the shower room and was slightly clostraphobic and unhygienic as the sink was in the shower room which was fine. We got an apology for the inconvenience the hotel is situated near the rivers Foss and Ouse and ten minute walk to.city centre beware if eating in hotel restaurant they add a service charge of twelve and a half per cent The food and Breakfast are excellent staff were very friendly and helpful

Beds were very comfortable, enough space for a family of four. Everything you need hair dryer, Tv and fridge. Very clean. Absolutely loved the pool, and a nice touch to have a kids snug in the bar area with a Nintendo, books and a mini pool table. Great location only a 10 minute walk into the city centre but away from road noise. Backs onto the canal too which is lovely.

Not a lot of hanging space for wet coats/towels/swimwear we ended up having to hang them in the bathroom but only had two hooks. There was a huge space behind the door with nothing on the wall would be nice to have some coat hooks there.

Loved it all. Very comfy and great location too.

We went for the pool-limited to 30 mins, which was fine. Unfortunately, in spite of signs of ‘no jumping’, someone’s son who had overstayed the previous session, just kept ‘bombing’ everyone. Many others were annoyed but the parents seemed oblivious. He eventually landed on my daughter’s head. She complained to the parent, who simply accused her of aggressive swimming! It could just be a one off, but some supervision of the pool ( as it is small) might help to improve the experience, as that is what drew us to the hotel and this incident marred our experience somewhat.

All of the staff are friendly and helpful. The swimming pool is a bonus! The bathroom had his and hers sinks, a huge bath and a separate waterfall shower. The bed was comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe space and hangers, an iron and board, hairdryer and many full length mirrors. The separate lounge area with a sofa bed and desk with a tv creates a homely feel. The windows open slightly and my room overlooked the river. I was in a junior suite which was very quiet and I didn’t hear any noise from anywhere. The hotel is a short, easy walk into the city and only about 5 minutes walk from Clifford’s tower and surrounding shops.

The hotel food was not up to a good standard. Continental breakfast didn’t have a lot to offer. We had the curry and the pie and mash one evening. Both were bland and tasteless. We ate out for the rest of our stay. I would have preferred the bed to be facing the window instead of the tv. Too many mirrored doors. It felt like a fairground attraction!

The room was lovely and spacious as always. The swimming pool is such a nice addition and we are delighted that we can use it as part of our stay. The staff are very friendly and the facilities are very clean. The breakfast was lovely and good value for money.

You have to pay £17 per night for parking which feels excessive for a hotel car park, given we were paying to stay at the hotel. It was competitive with York parking in general, but most hotels don't charge. We order food on the Monday and it was truly awful. Very very slow to arrive, and then completely wrong (I'd asked for no gravy on the children's meals and it came covered). When we received the meal without gravy, the pork was mostly fat and barely any meat. Overall the meal was expensive, slow, and not very nice.

The hotel is in a good location a short walk outside the city walls. Reception was friendly and efficient and the room clean and comfortable. We arrived quite late but I was still able to get a tasty grilled peach and mozzarella salad, just what I needed before bed. The room was quiet, with comfortable bed and I slept well - and appreciated a hot shower in the morning.

Minor personal preferences - The toilet was separate from shower and sink (though that could also be an advantage for some). The kettle worked once, then I couldn't get it to work again. Our visit was short, so I didn't have time to follow up.

Quite possibly one of the best breakfasts that we have had. The evening meals were also top notch ! They need to make sure that they hang on to this particular chef !!

The only one negative, during our stay, was the horrible smell that was present from the bathroom plug hole, when we used the sink. These waste systems need to be checked, and cleaned on a regular basis. Otherwise the bathroom facilities were excellent. Please see downloaded picture, not exactly a view of the river Ouse from our hotel window. More like a river of green slime ! Sorry, two negatives.

We like the location, lobby and breakfast, view from the room over the river, we were allowed to leave our bags before checking-in so we could enjoy day of sightseeing, love all the toiletries being from The Ritual brand, which i absolutely love.

Lack of information about how the pool session actually work, only 30 mins per slot. Dirty sauna and pool floor, looked like there was no regular cleanings with yellow hairy water sitting on the bottom of the sauna room, had to come out to ask about towels even though staff member let us in into the pool area. Uncomfortable sofa bed in our room, it was 3 of us, so on of us had to sleep on the sofa, one flat pillow was provided and very uncomfortable click clack sofa to sleep on. No third cup for a hot drink in the room either.
