So many parts of this stay were so enjoyable! We arrived pretty late on the night we checked in, and the outside was lit up beautifully with some fairy lights. Walking into the bar area I was asked pretty much straight away if we were checking in, which I said we were and a member of staff took us straight up to our room. He asked if we wanted breakfast over the course of the stay and showed us where to go and when. We then came straight back down and had some food, the food was amazing! So fresh and all home cooked. We also asked when we could pay for our room and were given the option of then and there, or upon check out. This was a great idea I feel! And then upon check out they confirmed which days we had breakfast and simply took the ones we didn't off the bill. The breakfast next morning again contained high quality ingredients. Service was so speedy as well. Every single member of staff was friendly and helpful, and I honestly can't rave about how good the stay was. I will happily stay here again.

I know not much can be done about it without major over hauls, but the walls are very thin. We could hear the TV and talking from next door during the night. Also, the floor boards are creaky, so we could hear people walking around in the early hours. Not sure if it was our room, but we could hear what sounded like loud dripping noises in the early hours of the morning, but they did eventually stop.

Beautiful location, rooms were immaculate, comfortable and very aesthetically pleasing. There was tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits provided in the room which was a lovely touch. The bar was great, relaxing, very welcoming and staff were very attentive. We visited this weekend with friends as 2 couples. We were in room 12 and room 2, our friends requested to swap rooms to be next to us in room 11. This was no issue and staff accommodated this immediately. All staff where friendly and welcoming. We ate in the bar on Friday evening. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The overall vibe of the place is lovely. We visited Harrogate on Saturday which was only around 14 minutes in an Uber. The staff kindly provided us with numbers for taxis and Ubers to get to Harrogate and back. We can’t wait to come back again in May. Thank you.

Clean and comfortable room. Table and chairs outside room to enjoy the summer evening. Breakfast Excellent very attentive staff suitable options for all diets . Had dinner both nights quality food good size portions served in a timely manner . Staff very good to take into consideration my diary free dietary request. Good location if visiting Ripon , Knaresborough and Fountains Abbey National Trust Unesco site. Location suited us as we completed Fountains Abbey Parkrun on Saturday morning and it was only 10 minutes drive away :-)

Nothing at All.

Our room was well furnished, comfortable and clean. We were hoping for one of the balcony rooms, but instead, our room with a covered outside patio area was perfectly acceptable. There is ample car parking and a very nice outdoor drinking area overlooking the surrounding countryside. We did not have breakfast but our evening meal ( Friday special fish and chips with an offer on a glass of Prosecco ) was excellent. All staff were friendly and helpful. We thought that the attached caravan site helped to create a buzz in the bar and restaurant. A good range of beers

Breakfast finishes too early for our taste, so we opted to give it a miss.

Had such a lovely weekend stay here. The location is perfect, very peaceful ( only a 10 min drive into the busier towns though) our room was lovely and clean, with a bonus balcony that we weren't expecting, we were room 12 which has a much bigger balcony that gets the early morning sun which was great. The food in the pub below was honestly the nicest we have had in long time so would highly recommend giving it a go. We will definitely be booking again.

We didn't dislike anything

Personal attention, friendly smiling service . I had a problem with the shower which was sorted at once. Very comfortable beds. The bedrooms have wonderful balconies with a table and chairs, and we enjoyed sitting out in the evening with a bottle of wine. The food was excellent: on the Saturday night we found the dining room full of people who had come in for the delicious carvery, all you might expect and more, veg properly cooked, not overdone. As for the breakfasts, they were more like brunch, melon, avocado, smoked salmon, full English of course, all top quality. And a good choice of home-mixed cereals, not just the standard packets. We would stay there again.

Personally, being infirm, I found the stairs steep, and there was no lift. But the balcony compensated for that.

Conveniently located for Harrogate and area. The rooms were clean and comfortable though we needed to work out for ourselves how to get the extractor fan to work in the bathroom.

Unfortunately due to the time of year the restaurant was not open but meals could be taken in the bar. This was a disappointment as we specifically chose the hotel because it had a restaurant and it was our wedding anniversary. Think if it had mentioned this in description we would not have chosen it for our anniversary but in all other aspects the place was okay.

It’s the third time we’ve stayed here it’s central to most locations. Very friendly , good value for money and situated in the beautiful countryside. The food is very nice as well , evening meals and breakfast are very reasonably priced and well worth the money. We’ve had a lovely weekend away and will definitely be back again.

There’s nothing to dislike about the chequers in as everyone goes out their way to make your stay very enjoyable

Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, bar staff lovely, food in bar was nice, good quality tea, coffee and biscuits in room, plenty of mirrors in bathroom, excellent water pressure in the shower

Overpowering smell of air freshener which I think was to disguise the smell of horse manure when the window was open (it had to be open or room was too hot), bed quite small, hard to shut curtains as rings wouldn't go over the join in the curtain pole
