Hotel full of charm and character located in a beautiful village not far from Harrogate. Good communication prior to visit re room and restaurant booking from Donna & Paula. Free access to Ripley Castle grounds and garden. Nice relaxed evening meal and then great breakfast in the morning, what more do you want/need from a hotel….

The restaurant/hotel were great, set in a lovely location. It's a beautiful village with plenty to do in the surrounding area, and a delicious ice cream shop over the road. Breakfast was tasty with everything on offer, we didn't eat otherwise in the restaurant but the food looked really good. The rooms are big, period style but tidy and everything you need.

The hotel check in staff member was very rude. Not only to me but the person checking in ahead of me too. It may be a busy hotel but this is the service industry - there should be more professionalism than what we experienced. What a let down for an otherwise fabulous stay.

Superb location ,ideal for visiting Fountains Abbey ,Harrogate and knaresborough. Lovely places to walk from the Boars Head. Next to a deer park and guests at the hotel have free access to the dear park. All the staff were excellent but a special mention to Paula at reception. I had booked the wrong dates and turned up a week early.expecting to be told there was no room ,Paula arranged with the Manager to prepare a room for us and saved the day and our Easter weekend.

Didn't stay there long enough

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. Staff are amazing, We ate in the restaurant the food was very nice as was the breakfast. Will definitely stay again .

We liked the area/ village. The outside character was lovely but very dated inside but some may find this part of its charm. Breakfast was lovely. Beds comfy and nice linen

Decor around hotel/bedroom and shabby carpet in bedroom. Frayed edges and ill fitting. The biggest issue which put a dampener on our stay was the unprofessional lady on our check out. She was rude , loud and confrontational when I said thank you and raised a few minor house keeping issues. I’m not mentioning the lady’s name as it would cause great embarrassment to her and the hotel’s reputation. Training for this lady is a must and the hard work and professionalism of other staff is marred by this one member of staff.

Perfect location for walking / seeing the castle. Reception, waiting and bar staff were really friendly.

Breakfast: Daughter has a mild intolerance to gluten, dairy and eggs and struggled to have a cooked breakfast. She could have had the hash browns as the amount of dairy in these would not have caused any problems but the chef refused to serve. I would have thought, given the items they served her (bacon, GF bread and avocado) that they would have given more than 2 x rashes of bacon and 1 piece of toast! Everyone's plates in the restaurant were hugely filled. My cooked breakfast just tasted of vinegar. They must cook the poached eggs in it and the plate was swimming in the water which just made the bacon and has browns taste of this! Dinner: Steaks were overcooked, chips under. Room: Boiling hot, bathroom towel rail on high with no way of controlling it that we could see.

We stayed here for a birthday celebration as a couple, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From start to finish, everything was absolutely exceptional – the room was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the service was outstanding. Every member of staff we met was so warm and welcoming, which made the experience even more special. The area itself is stunning, providing the perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway. It was exactly what we needed for a couple of nights away, and it truly felt like a treat from beginning to end. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already talking about when we can come back. It was just so wonderful – highly recommended!

We liked everything!

The room was comfortable, clean and quiet and breakfast was excellent. Amusingly, it is the only hotel that I have ever satyed in that has a gun cabinet in the wardrobe!

When we arrived, the car park out the front was sealed off. We were not told that there was a bigger car park around the back. In fact, we were told to park on the main road. When I asked if I could park in the front I was told that it was reserved for a "shoot" the following morning. Later in the evening, all the spaces in the road that were not on yellow lines were filled. Fortunately, we then discovered the car park around the back and, luckily, squeezed, into the last remaining space

Having been on lots of mini-breaks all over the country, we found that this one was the best. No niggly problems or small things that let the stay down. We found every part of the stay at a high standard, and enjoyed every minute of it. The location was great, off the main road therefore no noise. The estate village is lovely and well kept. The castle grounds are nice. We explored the village and castle grounds before heading into Harrogate for the afternoon, our main objective. Everything about the Boars Head was excellent. All the staff where friendly, the large paintings of the old Lords and Ladies very interesting, the room was nice and big, clean and well decorated. The food and drink was excellent, very enjoyable. We have already recommended it to our friends and will definitely be heading back for another stay ourselves as soon as we can, to explore wider Yorkshire. Can't believe how well organised you have it. Well done.

The breakfast was excellent with a good choice. The staff were very helpful. We had two bikes and they were able to store them safely and we were never kept waiting to access the storage room. The room was very spacious and nicely furnished. Ripley is a lovely place to visit and the Boars Head is an integral part of this picturesque village.

In general there was not much not to like, however the toiletries in the bathroom was not replenished and we had to ask for replacements. We were not particularly impressed by the evening meals. The menu promised high high end dishes at an appropriate price but what actually came did not match our expectations. There was also a distinct lack of vegetables and it was necessary to order additional veg.
