Robyn and Chris are the best hosts I've ever met! They are super helpful, friendly, and easy-going. The house and its garden are so beautiful and well-maintained. The room is even much nicer than the photos, completely over our expectation. I also love how peaceful and tranquil the surrounding is. Even it was fully booked during our stay, we never felt disturbed by other guests. We were able to rest and sleep very well every night. The breakfast is also amazing, your main dish is made fresh every morning. They are very generous with choices and portion. The location is also superb, it's in walking distance to the train station and the lake. We stayed for 3 nights but would love to stay longer :)

The breakfast was excellent and clearly cooked with a great deal of care and culinary understanding! There was enough variety to have a different breakfast every day for a week and special requests were always fulfilled. We enjoyed the small chats with Chris and Robyn and felt very welcome for the entirety of our stay.

It’s really not necessary, but we personally would have enjoyed a slightly bigger TV as we stayed for a week and would have loved a movie night. Other than that everything was wonderful!

Absolutely gorgeous stay at Oakfold House. Location was ideal, almost in the middle of Bowness and Windermere - could easily walk to both or hop on the bus opposite the house, which run every 20 minutes. The house itself was beautiful and so warm / cosy, which I wasn't expecting with it being an older property full of character. We had room 1 on the ground floor with a double and single bed. Room and house was spotless and spacious. En suite was a good size and shower lovely and hot. Beds were very comfy and we slept really well both nights. We booked breakfast both mornings and highly recommend the vegetarian breakfast - everything was fresh and hot. Very enjoyable stay and hosts were lovely - thank you!

Robyn & Chris are very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast choices were really good. I opted for the vegetarian option because I was intrigued with the offer of a homemade leak & potato croquette -very tasty. My husband enjoyed his Cumbrian breaky. Great shower. Lovely location, close to amenities and short walk down to the lake.

The room was at the top so you had beams that you could easily bang your head on. My husband had to crouch to use mirror whilst shaving. However, I did know when I booked that it was a small double room and it was still cosy and comfortable.

We recently stayed at Oakfold House in Bowness, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and friendly service. The location is perfect—just a short walk from the centre of Bowness and Lake Windermere, yet nestled in a quiet and peaceful area. The house has a lovely charm, blending modern comforts with its classic character. Our room was spotless, with all the little touches that made our stay extra special—comfy bed, high-quality linens. Breakfast was a highlight for us each morning. The freshly cooked meals really set us up for the day. Whether we chose the traditional full English or lighter options, everything was delicious and prepared with care. Overall, Oakfold House offers a relaxing, comfortable stay with excellent service. It was the perfect base for us to explore the Lake District, and we’ll definitely be returning on our next trip. Highly recommend for anyone looking for convenience, comfort, and tranquility in Bowness!

The room was lovely. Very clean and comfortable. There were plenty of wardrobe/drawer space and lots of sockets. The hosts were very friendly and couldn't do enough. They were a great help for places to go and recommendations for where to eat. They have a great choice for breakfast, and we tried most of them. Each one delicious. We especially enjoyed their smoked salmon (which they source from Scotland) and scrambled eggs - the best we've tasted.

Nothing except having to leave!

Robyn and Chris were very friendly and welcoming. The Guest house lovely and very well located to both Bowness and Windermere. They were happy to give advice on buses, places to visit etc. Breakfast was freshly served each morning, with several options to choose from. The private car park was a great help, in a very busy area.

Our room was a little bit small, with no room to get out on one side of the bed. Not really a double room, more suitable for single occupancy, or children.

My grandmother, mother and I stayed at Oakfold for three days. We could not fault the property. Every little detail was beautifully thought out. Great location. Breakfast was fantastic with lots of choice, using local produce and delicious homemade bread. Our room was quaint, extremely clean, well stocked with local teas and coffees and beautifully decorated. It felt like a home from home. All handwash and shampoo were also from a local brand whose shop we visited in Ambleside. There were so many beautiful little touches such as homemade fudge next to the entrance. I would highly reccomend Oakfold house. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay.

Oakfold House exceeded all our expectations and made our Lake District vacation unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the warm and friendly staff made us feel right at home. The rooms were impeccably clean, beautifully decorated! Every detail, from the cozy bedding to the luxurious bathroom amenities, was thoughtfully curated to ensure maximum comfort. The breakfast was a culinary delight, with a wide range of options to cater to all tastes and dietary needs. The hotel's location was perfect – a peaceful retreat yet conveniently close to the best attractions and hiking trails in the area. What truly sets Oakfold House apart is the exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and provided excellent recommendations for local dining and activities. We felt truly pampered and valued as guests. In conclusion, Oakfold House is undoubtedly the best hotel in the Lake District. We can't wait to return and experience their outstanding hospitality once again. Highly recommended!
