You couldn't ask for much better for the price. A night in a private room is about $30 USD. Knowing that, you shouldn't expect 5-star accommodation. If you plan to explore the city and surrounding areas, this is a great place to stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms and showers were clean. The breakfast was really good. I didn't use the kitchen space, but it is available. I found some guests had left the kitchen quite messy. Also, security of the building felt good. There are also safes in the rooms if you need them.

The one downside was the small window in my room above the bed that banged open every time the wind blew. I had earplugs and was so tired that I slept through it, but I could see it potentially bothering some people.

Nearly everything: location, price, facilities, and the kitchen. Perfect!

Three issues: 1. The ladder getting into the top bunk, the metal rungs are too narrow for feet. I had to put in my shoes every time I climbed in our out. Ouch. And I weigh only 62 kg. 2. It would be very nice for each bed to have a small shelf in order to place phone, earbuds, etc. 3. Each bed needs a dedicated electrical socket. Come on. My closest socket was 2.5 meters away! 🙄

Really nice hostel, great that it has a pool. The beds in the private rooms were really good, finally some good nights sleep. The breakfast buffet is really nice. It's possible to walk safely during the day from the location to the popular Kloof Street (try take bigger roads) and/or Long Street. Otherwise take an Uber, definitely after sunset. Parking in the street is free, but be sure to park your car with the nose in the right direction, we got a fine for having the car the other way around lol.

The private rooms at the pool are hot so you need to keep your windows open, people will be making noise at the pool so bring good earplugs or stay at a dorm. An extra fan for this heat (January) would be nice. Someone had been smoking in our room so, yuk. Also the carpet really needs replacing, it smelled so bad xD. One of the ladies that served breakfast (when there was no buffet) seemed quite cranky so we were scared to ask her anything haha.

The lodge was very nice in general for the price. I had a double bed for myself. The staff were nice and could check-in late at night after a long trip. They were helpful when I transferred to the other lodge to stay with my friend and also contacted a tour guide for me.

The room was really cold but luckily there was an electric heater. Quite basic in general, but can't complain for the price!

Staff were extremely helpful, shared bathrooms were clean and plentiful. Always hot water. Rooms were a bit tired but bedding was clean and regularly changed. Kitchen was useful although ruined by the usual idiot gen z's incapable of washing their dishes. Overall a very nice hostal.

The tiled area and steps at the front are lethal when wet.

We had a very nice stay at Ashanti. Just staying in the building itself was a highlight with pool, community balconies and space to braai. During our stay it was also kept very clean. Location was also good, we could get everywhere we wanted very easily and with a view of the table mountain. We also hung out there a bit, as the bar was decent and cheap. It's also a good place if you want to get to know people, everyone was open to share experiences. We booked a private double room facing the pool which was nice, decent size and it even had a sink.

If you arrive late, please make sure to announce it more than once. When we arrived the hostel was closed and there was no staff around. The phone number specified didn't pick up. If we hadn't known people who stayed at Ashanti it would have been impossible for us to get in and get our room.

The staff were helpful and made me feel very welcome. A 50 + male at a backpackers I felt welcome at the bar at night, and the other guests in the twenties were also friendly.

The Wi Fi needs to be upgraded. Found it difficult to steam conference calls at times.

Breakfast was excellent and I really enjoyed meeting the staff and making new friends in the hostel. The location was perfect, and the ambiance was very comfortable. I would recommend this hostel to anyone who wishes to stay in Cape Town.

I like the staff, very friend and helpful. I like the atmosphere and the proactivity of the staff.

The kitchen area. I feel like the entire kitchen needs renovation including the cupboards and pots.

I loved the house and the facilities (garden, pool and balconies) and the view of the mountain. The location is great, Kloof Street with restaurants & cafés, supermarkets is just around the corner, you can walk into the city center. I arrived on an early morning flight and really appreciated not having to wait until the afternoon for check-in (Thanks again)!!

Rooms towards the pool can be loud. During my first two nights people were partying at the pool until late at night. A blouse I gave to the external laundry service got lost, however Ashanti organized a refund.
