The accommodation is in the heart of the Old Town. Focal places of interest, eateries, and distinctive small shops close at hand. The Airport bus stops in the newer part of Bilbao just a 15 minute walk away--if you can pass by the main street's big shops un-tempted! A modern access system at the property uses an effective pre-arranged entry code, though reception is also helpfully staffed during the day. Rooms have been excellently modernised: soundproofed windows keep street noise low (mostly just people talking there since the old quarter is a traffic-free zone). We used aircon to good effect during warm nights. The coffee machine also handily produced hot water for tea. Basically we couldn't fault the 'Pension Ama Bilbao' and its staff. Plus, Bilbao is a really vibrant city full of absorbing design and colour.

We cannot think of a negative, whether for the property or the city. September weather seemed slightly unpredictable, but nobody coming from the UK would find that alien.

We had a lovely three-night stay at Pensión Ama. The location is perfect – right in the middle of the atmospheric old town, surrounded by charming streets, pintxos bars, shops, and restaurants. Check-in was smooth and communication before arrival was clear and helpful. Our room (Lydie) was clean, quiet, and well-equipped – comfy bed, air conditioning, coffee machine, safe, and a nice bathroom with even a bathtub. The double balcony overlooking the lively street was a real highlight – a great spot to take in the local vibe. We loved being able to walk everywhere. The pension is also well connected by public transport – the airport is just 30 minutes away by metro and bus. Highly recommended for a relaxed and authentic stay in Bilbao!

Fabulous location in the old town, very close to the cathedral, many bars close but not too close and a couple of convenience stores very close by. Superbly decorated, very well run and cleaned daily by very efficient maids. Some rooms have a roll top bath in the bedroom too. Easy online check in and easy access via door code. There is no on site dining room, but a couple of minutes walk away there is a beautiful art deco restaurant Aitaren Boulevard which serves breakfast for this guesthouse; it's not on the breakfast menu but they will give you tortilla for breakfast if you ask and it's wonderful tortilla..

It was all good,. the breakfast options could have been broader and if I was staying more than four days I would not opt in as there are plenty of local options for this at the same price.

The room had many nice touches to it such as heated towel rack, the aesthetic was lovely and very clean. The staff were extremely helpful and took the time to explain everything, very kindly and patiently in english. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. Another nice touch was the recommendations of where to go for breakfast. The location was absolutely brilliant as well, right in the middle of the old town within walking distance to the theatre and a lovely starting point to walk towards the funicular and guggenheim.

Great location in the middle of old town. Modern access. Good communication with the owners. I would definitely stay there again.

Not the fault of the owner, but on our return to the hotel in the evening a group of girls tried to "tailgate" into the apartment block and because the hotel reception is not manned 24 hours I suspect there was some nefarious intent. My friend and I firmly shut the door behind us not letting them in (we both have this drummed into us at our respective places of work). The reason for sharing this - my advice to other guests is NOT to let others in on your key code.

We enjoyed the central location in the old town- close to many restaurants and a 30 minute walk to the Guggenheim. We also enjoyed the keyless system- not having to remember if you like clef the room or if you had your room key was great!

Everything was as expected- we were lucky to have a room on the street side with a balcony- however it was very noisy on the weekend into the wee hours. If you are a light sleeper- you may want to chose an inside room.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find such a relatively luxurious hotel, right in the centre of the old city, at such a reasonable price. The staff on reception were very helpful and courteously went along with my attempt to speak not very fluent Spanish.

One slight puzzle - since the hotel doesn't itself provide breakfast they gave me a voucher offering a discount at a local cafe. But I couldn't find it even with the aid of what looked like an accurate map! (Not really an issue since there are so many good cafes around.) It would also be useful to have recommendations for local restaurants that offer local cuisine at reasonable prices.

The best way to describe it would be to say that it’s like Kimpton for the digital age minus the yoga mat. Large, pleasant and welcoming rooms, comfortable set up, Nespresso machine, modern bathroom and in this case: all digital access. Everything works with door codes and no keys or cards are used. Room service was excellent and the 20% discount for the breakfast in the nearby restaurant was a nice perk.

The location was perfect, right in the centre of the old town. The room had everything we needed and the bed was comfy. We really liked the addition of the coffee machine as we didn’t have this in other places we stayed. Staff were friendly and informative and we would recommend to others.

The room was definitely clean and main bedsheets but the cushions and throw were quite dirty and had obvious stains on them which wasn’t very nice.

Very central location + quiet enough at the same time, nice modern furnishings, good coffee machine, solid Internet connection, good communication.

The room was quite small - there was not enough space to comfortably open my luggage nor to work by the small desk there + it was quite dark. The shower was incredibly poorly designed with no curtain, so there was no way to shower comfortably without splashing water all over the bathroom.
