Staff not as helpful as they could have been. I was early- I was taken to a waiting room up 2/3 flights of glass stairs - no lift- no help with my bag . I didn’t look like a person who wd stay at the grand as I had been travelling and I didn’t look as smart as I could have. Staff seemed suspicious of me!

I loved the attention to detail throughout the property—from the elegant design and immaculate cleanliness to the personalized service. The room was exceptionally comfortable, with high-end amenities that really elevated the stay. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere made it feel like a true escape. The on-site dining and spa were also standout features that made the experience unforgettable.

Overall, the experience was fantastic, but if I had to mention something, it would be I wish the in-room dining menu had more variety. It wasn’t a major issue, but something that could enhance the experience even more.

From the moment you arrive, the staff take really good care of you. Efficient and friendly front desk staff, especially Durmith. The spacious Coffee Shop is a great place for a quick coffee and a ‘short eat’. Cheers Pub is a the best bar and the staff again are efficient and smiley. Good selection of snacks and meals. Our rooms was always immaculately serviced daily.

While the pool is fabulous, there is little shade and the crows can be a little annoying!

OK, it's a 5 star hotel, so expectations are very high, but we found that it more than met our expectations. The 'Premium' room we had was great - a very large dual aspect corner room. The bed was large and extremely comfortable, the shower was great and the WiFi worked perfectly for us. Security was tight, which we felt was a good thing, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was large and the solarium had plenty of sunbeds, both in the sun and in the shade. We really enjoyed Cheers Bar for its Happy Hour and you are spoilt for choice with the on-site restaurants.

Large but still friendly. Best location for Colombo. Staff remember names and preferences, especially the exec lounge staff and Gihan at the poolside. Room comfortable, facilities fine. Fantastic hotel breakfast with incredible variety, especially of Sri Lankan foods. Executive room worth the extra for the afternoon tea, cocktails and 4 laundry items over a 3 night stay. The pool and the garden are still the best. Now also featuring a banyan tree full of flying foxes so ideal for nature watching from your sun lounger.

The hotel is showing its age and looking shabby in parts, especially where new structures have been added eg at poolside. Makes it look messy. Conferences are big business here, more so than tourism. We also came across a dodgy bloke hanging around in the lobby, potential scammer. The hotel could do more to keep these folk away.

Really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Very helpful staff, good value for money, lovely room on 9th floor, excellent breakfast, inviting pool and some great restaurant options.

Hard to find anything negative, although check-in did seem to take a long time and dragged on for quite a while without telling us anything useful, eg which restaurants are open. Also, the reception staff didn't tell us much at all about the executive lounge that we had access to, eg what time is afternoon tea, happy hour etc. We had to find out for ourselves as no info in the room either.

As per the name the hotel felt “grand” although some parts of the service seemed overlooked and some facilities seemed aged. The location was excellent for sightseeing. The Lagoon restaurant was great value for money and you can select your own seafood for the helpful staff to cook.

The booking instructions I received specified payment terms which included paying in US dollars and not in Sri Lankan rupees. I exchanged US dollars to enable cash payment and was told the terms had changed. This seems like a small inconvenience but now means I have US dollars I won’t use and my funds for the remainder of the holiday need to be managed differently. I had recurrent problems either my door lock which needed to be fixed several times.

The quality of the service at the breakfast venue has improved considerably. It's my favorite breakfast restaurant, so I hope it improves further. The primary Western-style buffet breakfast menu is covered. There are so many different types of bread that you'll be spoilt for choice. You can also enjoy Sri Lankan food with just the right spiciness. One of the things I enjoy is eating freshly cooked dishes such as masala dosa, omelets, and hoppers, which are served on the spot. The miso soup has improved. I miss the sticky Japanese rice that they used to serve. If possible, I would be happy if they served grapes for breakfast. I want to eat them with cheese. I would also be pleased if they served some bean dishes like hummus, which they used to serve for breakfast.

Massive hotel with lots to do. There is something to do for all ages of guests. Rooms and bathroom are clean and big. The bed was so comfortable. The staff is so kind and helpful. Food was exceptionally good. Every single thing we tried was delicious . I would definitely come back here for the food alone. The pool area was the best part. My kids had a safe wading pool to play in. The area is surrounded by lush greenery and it’s so peaceful. We loved the spa too. The prices are reasonable and service is top notch.

The friendliness and professionalism of the staff was excellent. They were so welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us navigate the city. Particular thanks to Samantha and Harris at Guest Relations - they were fab. Nothing was too much trouble and Harris gave us some great tips on Colombo nightlife. Housekeeping of Rooms 601/606 were fantastic. The little details of them seeing that we had books and coming back to see bookmarks left for us. The staff knew who we were very quickly and were always happy to chat. Breakfast was delicious.

Only one thing: no one mentioned at check in that you need a reservation for 'Plates' the main restaurant for dinner. However, we ate at Noodles and enjoyed that too.
