Location is very lively and central and many transport options are easily available. Staff is extremely helpful especially Mr. Chandra and Mr. Stanley. Restaurant has good food options and halal food is available. Room and hotel overall has an old school vibe but well-kept and comfortable. Housekeeping was done daily and room service for food is available.

There is no elevator, so people needing special accessibility may have an issue. Payments are cash only. Hotel entrance doors are closed at late night hours but there is a door-bell at the entrance which can alert the staff inside who will open the doors then.

This is a really stylish hotel with an interesting and beautiful architecture and a retro vibe. The hotel is located in downtown, a 5 - 10 minute walk to many local restaurants and local mini markets and the Lotus Tower. Our room was spacious, luminous and very clean with a comfortable bed. The bathroom is basic, but modern and functional, with hot running water at all times. The staff are very polite, problem – solving oriented and efficient. The food at the the hotel’s restaurant is good and reasonably priced. The drinks are also very affordable.

The furniture in the rooms needs some refurbishment, most rooms could use a paint job.

Due to a sudden change of plans, this was our second stay at Shalimar Hotel in less than one month. We enjoyed our staying here this time around even more then our first stay. The staff are knowledgeable, efficient, polite, yet friendly, and go above and beyond to meet guests' requests. The food at the hotel's restaurant is good. Rooms are spacious, clean and nicely decorated; beds are comfortable. The hotel is located in downtown, close to many local restaurants, shops, mini markets and the Lotus Tower and next to Maradana Train Station.

The room (delux double) was clean and cool (a necessary respite from Colombo's hot and humid days at this time of year) and spacious. The air-conditioning was very welcome, and wifi worked consistently well (as advertised). We were able to spread our things out and feel comfortable (both inside the room and out). Outside the room was a wrap-around verandah (overlooking the inner courtyard) and this is a great place to sit and relax with a cup of tea or coffee and leave bustling Colombo behind for a little while). The location was great for us and was just down the road from the famous Hotel De Buhari (great Biriyani) - we ate there whenever we could! Most of all we'd love to thank all the staff. The services Prashath and the team provided for us - everything from helping us move luggage and purchases up and down the stairs, advising us on best ways to get to where we needed to go, and ordering tuk-tuks, to just having a friendly chat (yes, English is spoken by the key staff, and a smile will get you a long way) - was very much appreciated.

The shower's water pressure was a little low/slow but this in no way detracted from our stay.

Shalimar Hotel is an old school, charming place which ended up being one of our favorite stops in Sri Lanka. It had all the facilities we wanted - aircon, flat screen TV, hot shower, comfy bed, kettle, parking, a restaurant onsite. It's also quite central, close to most of the city's sites, like Pettah Market, Lotus Tower... the staff were friendly. It's not perfect, but you can see they are working on making it even better.

Not the best area, but once you're parked and inside, you don't feel it. And the pricing matches the area, so I felt it was good value

Mr. Prashath was very helpful. He provided comfort and good advice at all times. The room was very spacious and absolutely pristine. In fact, all areas of the hotel were indeed clean to the highest standard. I would recommend it to families and I would stay without hesitation. The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful.

In general I am very happy with my stay. It was very good value for money. I could perhaps mention the fact that some of the areas may require a little bit of renovation.

This hotel is only minutes from the Maradana train station, several delicious local rotti restaurants, supermarket and wine store. Also has an on-site restaurant where we had a nice dinner of noodles and rice. Perfect location to catch the train to Galle or Kandy. Room was very clean, with a mini fridge and kettle though sadly no coffee or tea, bed was two single mattresses pushed together to make a king but firm and comfortable just the way we like it with the added bonus of no partner disturbance when getting up in the night. Shower has a door so its very nice not having the whole bathroom wet. We stayed twice, once upon our arrival in Sri Lanka and again as we passed through Colombo heading to Kandy. The hotel feels very Dutch old school with nice communal areas that have so much potential as a breakfast area or similar but are just smoking areas. Unfortunately I think there weren't many other guests so probably not an option right now but we would love to return and see it thriving once again.

The property is centrally located within Colombo, with the Maradona railway station located right behind the hotel. Tuk-tuks and cabs are easily available outside the hotel. The hotel seems grand and a heritage piece of Colombo. The rooms were spacious and neat, and very affordable. Special thanks to Prashant who attended to us during our stay at Shalimar. His service was great and his attitude was very pleasant towards us. Will definitely stay at Shalimar next time when I’m in Colombo!

The staff were fabulous. We arrived very late on a public holiday and were well looked after by Mr Chandra. The next day Mr Stanley was exceptionally helpful in guiding us to the train station, buying tickets, and on to the right train to Ahangama. Genuinely helpful and supportive, making this experience so much easier for us.

Noisy fan in room. Bathroom with smelly drain. Limited breakfast options (American or continental breakfast only), though it was the holiday period I guess.
