Our stay at Matthiol was better than perfect. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with exceptional warmth. Staff were friendly but discrete and not overbearing. The hotel itself is beautiful, spotlessly clean with thoughtful touches everywhere and gorgeous design. Our room was huge, with the comfiest bed and a giant egg-shaped bath. We were also lucky enough to have a balcony looking out to the forest behind, and a little squirrel visited us every day. The restaurant was excellent, with delicious food and a nice atmosphere. Breakfast was also phenomenal and copious. On the second day of our trip, there was a freak snowstorm and Zermatt had a power cut for around 30 hours; all the shops were closed and I think some people went without food. Not us - the Matthiol team looked after us and still managed to serve us an elaborate breakfast and dinners each night. The chefs were grilling in the kitchen without an extractor fan, battling through the heat and the smoke, and still managing to bring us a delicious dinner. We were astonished and thankful for their commitment and kindness. All the staff were amazing (we couldn't believe they showed up in all the snow!) and worked really hard to ensure that we were cared for in a very unusual and unexpected situation. When things got back to normal, the service was even better, and we had a wonderful 10 days exploring the mountains around Zermatt. At the end of every day, we were so happy to be back in the hotel and in our amazing room. It was the perfect place to unwind and get away from it all, and we left feeling fully revived and rejuvenated. I really, really want to visit again sometime soon. Thank you Matthiol!

The staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful at all times, the room was lovely, steam room and sauna in the room were a plus, even though you have them for free in the hotel spa. Balcony was the most beautiful feature of the room specially when it snows! Breakfast was delicious as well Outdoor jacuzzi is a great experience! Overall very satisfied

The hotel is located at the end of zermatt and on a hill, visiting the village center at night was inconvenient because buses don’t work at night and the hotel only offers a shuttle car at check in and check out, so we had to walk up the hill for 20 minutes. I would consider offering a shuttle service for guests during day and night specially that taxis are so expensive ! It would cost around 60 Francs to get from the center to the hotel in 10 minutes

This hotel exceeded all my expectations and deserves the highest rating. Location: The hotel is situated in the picturesque village of Zermatt, which is a gem in itself. With incredible views of the Matterhorn and a convenient location right at the start of many hiking trails, it’s the perfect place for nature lovers and active holiday enthusiasts. Service: The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and professional, resolving any issues from everyday living and accommodation to organizing leisure activities in the town and conveniences in the mountains. The reception staff were particularly experienced and always ready to help with reservations and finding the right shops. Dining: The breakfast at the hotel was delightful, and the waiter ensured everything was top-notch. The outstanding room service allows you to order dinner from the restaurant downstairs, and every dish was simply masterpieces. The meat was divine, the signature cheesecake, and the high-quality drinks – special thanks to the bartender. Rooms: My spacious room was equipped with everything necessary for a luxurious rest after daily activities: a huge soft bed, a bath with views, a sauna, and a hammam right in the room, and a balcony with stunning views of the Matterhorn. This place is designed for true relaxation and rejuvenation. Facilities and Amenities: The hotel offers a wide range of services, including a spa, pool, and fitness center. Although I did not use them, their presence underscores the high quality of service and the care for guests. Surroundings: The views in the village and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking! You can hike for a whole week and not cover all the trails. It’s the perfect place for those who want to relax in the fresh air and improve their health with active walks.

This is the best hotel we have ever stayed at, hands down. The service from the staff is truly exceptional, the location is stunning with the view of Matterhorn and in the quiet serenity of the alps. The hotel itself has a very warm, cozy, classy feel, kitted out with a gym and spa my husband used daily, a tub in our room, a lovely cozy bar with hot chocolate by the fire, amazing breakfast included and quality room service daily. Big shout out to the pregnant owner, the main guy at the front and Laura on booking.com who went out of their way to provide me with next level care and service. I found out I was pregnant just shortly before the trip so had to adapt a lot of our plans as I wouldn’t be skiing anymore and they helped so much with restaurant recommendations, where to get certain things I needed, calling transportation and checking bus times, tailoring my food and much more. Would 100% stay here again!

Absolutely nothing!

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room was very clean, the location was great – quiet and a bit away from central Zermatt, but close to the hiking trails. The view from the window was amazing, and the sauna was a nice bonus. Also, the male waiter at breakfast was especially kind and welcoming every morning.

The prices felt quite high and not fully justified in my opinion. Breakfast portions were a bit too small for me, and the cocktails seemed noticeably smaller than they were last year.

We could not fault our stay at the Matthiol! We stayed for a week for our winter Honeymoon and to ski, and it was absolutely perfect! The rooms are beautifully appointed and spacious. The views are gorgeous and the location is just a short walk from one of the free bus stops. The breakfast buffet was THE BEST we have ever had, and the restaurant, Filet et Fils, was brilliant (the fondue huts were also a delicious and cool experience). The staff and service were absolute stand-outs. They were so helpful, providing recommendations and helping to coordinate ski hire etc. We will definitely come back next time we're in Zermatt, and we can't wait to stay again. Thank you to the Matthiol for making our Honeymoon so special!

Very clean and modern. Excellent quality breakfast. The private sauna and steam bath was a great bonus after long hikes. The staff were all friendly, helpful and professional. Great location for starting hikes although about a mile to the centre of town. However this made it a much more peaceful location and the walk into town was nothing after a long hike in the alps!

The restaurant for dinner was very pricy and had limited vegetarian options so we opted out however it looked very nice. No instructions in the room for the coffee machine however we figured it out with you tube! No herbal tea bags or decaf in the room for those that don’t want caffeine in the afternoon or evening. Although I’ve no doubt if we’d been bold enough to ask this would have been provided. Flat pillows but this is personal choice and no different to any hotel we’ve stayed in in the alps so no criticism

Swiss hospitality is world renowned for a reason. This, unfortunately, wasn’t it. Good enough, ticked most boxes, but no attempt to go beyond the basics. A hotel with a less-than-ideal location in Zermatt needs to do much better. A shame, really, because we’ve enjoyed visiting the restaurant before and booked the hotel as a result of a pleasant dining experience. Great breakfast, unless you’re lactose intolerant. Not even a single carton of lactose free milk or yogurt. Guests are expected to ask, which, based on the previous day’s less than enthusiastic responses at the front desk, we didn’t bother doing.

Hotel Matthiol embodies the essence of true hospitality! We felt at ease, taken care of, well regarded and helped with anything we needed! Amazing sense of details, high quality materials, design and equipments. Everything very clean, beautiful and functional. We truly enjoyed every corner of this property.. And the sauna in the room??!! Wow.. Little private fondue houses with the most amazing generous fondue!! Also appreciated the location that's on the more far end but thus gives spaciousness around, total silence and peaceful vibe. Town easily accessible by bus or walk, so no issue at all.. Found what I was looking for a beautiful holiday and more!! Thank you!!

Everything is perfect about this hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. They take every effort to make your stay comfortable and luxurious. The food (breakfast buffet and a la carte) is made with noticeably high quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. They are happy to take extra effort to customize it for your needs. The rooms are very elegant and thoughtfully designed. Location is great, with many hiking trails starting from nearby. It's slightly away from Zermatt but with a free pickup and dropoff.
