- Great location, close to the Zhongshan metro stop, which allows you to visit easily other parts of the city. In the area there are also shopping mall and restaurants. The train station (both local and high speed) is either walking distance (10min) or one metro stop away. - Room is good size (for one person), you get two bottle of water per day, and the room is cleaned daily if requested (which is not common in Taiwan). - Reception personnel is nice and do speak English

- Air condition may be a little bit loud (I use ear plugs, so for me it was fine) - whenever you leave the hotel, you are asked to leave the key at the reception. It could be useful, but it should be an option (and not mandatory)

When I first arrived at the Purple Garden Hotel in Taipei, I admit I had my reservations. The immediate sight of ongoing construction right in front of the hotel set a rather unwelcoming tone. The neighborhood seemed a bit run down and deserted, quite different from what I had anticipated. To add to my initial concerns, the room I checked into had a mattress that was extremely firm, more so than I'm used to, making it difficult to get comfortable. Coupled with furnishings that felt somewhat dated, my first impressions were not particularly positive. However, this initial judgment proved to be hastily formed. The next day brought about a complete change in my perspective. As I ventured out, the neighborhood transformed before my eyes. Far from the deserted streets of my arrival, it was bustling with life and energy. The proximity of cultural hubs like Huashan 1914 Creative Park and local attractions like the Ningxia Night Market and shopping suddenly made sense. The hotel's location, initially a point of skepticism, revealed itself as a gateway to the vibrant heart of Taipei. This newfound appreciation for the hotel's surroundings overshadowed my initial discomfort with the room. While the firm mattress remained a challenge, it became a minor inconvenience compared to the rich cultural experiences that lay just steps outside the hotel. The neighborhood, initially perceived as run-down, was actually full of character and activity, offering an authentic taste of Taipei life. In light of this complete turnaround in my experience, I even decided to extend my stay by a day. The Purple Garden Hotel, which I had initially doubted, became a memorable part of my Taipei journey. My story here is a reminder of how first impressions can sometimes be misleading and the importance of giving places and experiences a chance to reveal their true colors.

Mattress was too firm for my comfort

The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean with all the extra touches in a higher end place: a fridge, a kettle, lights on both sides of the bed, water, personal control of the room temperature, personal use items in the bathroom. Although the building and the furnishings are older, the bathroom seemed new and everything was very clean. The neighborhood has lots of small restaurants and shops. You can go from the hotel down into an underground mall and walk in air conditioning to the subway or train or airport line.

Everything was great, all questions/requests were answered by the staff who were very anxious to help and ensure guests had everything they needed.

Excellent location. About as good as it gets, easily accessible from Taipei main station, bus station, and another metro station.

Having to hand over keys everytime we go out. Having said this, there's someone at the counter 24x7, so it's not too bad.

Some Google reviews exaggerates about the old furnitures and bathroom molds etc. but its really nothing major. Some molds are something common in humid countries like Taiwan and can be addressed simply by keeping the windows open and allowing air flow.

Location was great, bed was comfortable

No insulation from street noise. Staff kept asking me to leave room key at desk when I went out - I'm not about to give them the only access to my belongings, nor do I want them tracking my comings and goings as a solo female traveler.

The property was in great location, so convenient to Taiwan Main Station.

The room was very cold & didn’t have a heater, but they provided a quilt to keep us comfortable.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location was very central in a nice neighbourhood. Great restaurants and cafés just around the corner. Breakfast is easy to find in the neighbourhood. The MoCA is literally a 2-minute walk.

Everything was good. There was no breakfast, but I didn't expect any. Nice place to stay.

it was a very spacious and clean room, the staff were so friendly and it was close to nice cafes and restaurants as well as being a short walk to the nearest train station! also very close to family mart for any groceries :)
