I was looking to spend a weekend in the New Forest in a well-appointed English hotel. This hotel meet all my expectations and more. Wonderful inviting rooms with upscale English decor. Location was the best, in the middle of the village with a wonderful pub next door. Horses, cows, and donkeys all walking past at varies times of the day. Such a pleasant place to relax and gather with family. We were visiting the UK from the US and this was the perfect place to enjoy a very traditional English weekend. Lovely walks nearby. Staff were very nice and helpful at all times.

Parking was sometimes a challenge in the small parking area at the back of the hotel.

A perfect location and a great bolt hole in the New Forest from which to rest, relax and explore. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make me feel at home and to meet my needs. Nothing was too much trouble. An unexpected room upgrade was the icing on the cake. Plenty of relaxation areas, complete with lovely log fires, good food and comfortable but not overly formal surroundings. This is my second stay and both have been enjoyable and memorable.

Not much! Restaurant alcohol prices were perhaps a little steep but a more competitively-priced range of were available in the linked pub next door, which served the same food menu.

We stayed in the duplex suite for a couple of nights for our wedding weekend and it was absolutely gorgeous. The bathroom was the nicest one we’ve seen! The grounds are beautiful - we ventured to their veg/herb garden in the morning which was lovely!

The ‘breakfast included’ was very basic and if you wanted hot food, you had to pay extra which was quite pricey. Although there were prices on the menu, we incorrectly assumed these were for restaurant visitors not staying guests as we had ‘breakfast included’ and staff didn’t explain ordering from the breakfast menus on the table would incur additional charges; an oversight on our end too.

The food was outstanding. Breakfast was served to you, no buffet situation and we also had real tea in teapots delivered to the table, proper service! Our room was spectacular, a really nice conversion of the garages. The bathroom was amazing, so big, and the main room was lovely too, with a wonderful comfy bed. Situated in a lovely position, really close to the house, we loved the walk in for breakfast. I was also treated really wonderfully on my birthday, with a glass of bubbly and attentive service for dinner, made it really special for me.

A slight issue, we couldn't open the curtains in our room first thing as people walking by could see in so we had to remain in the dark with the lights on until we were showered and dressed sufficiently.

Greeted in car park by immaculately presented footman who took our bags. We had a courtyard room which was enormous but well designed to feel homely, and complimentary gin and flapjack. Beaulieu is one of my favourite villages and this hotel is right in the heart. They clearly have instilled a customer-first approach to make you as peaceful as possible.

Some confusion over the previous months with our booking and payment, we'd booked 3 rooms and at points they thought I'd booked 1 or 2 rooms and I got conflicting messages. All sorted and forgotten when we got there though!

The garden is amazing, the new garden rooms are spacious and beautiful. The staff is lovely.

The Monty's restaurant/pub is not up to the standard of the hotel. It is really the negative of our stay. Everything else is so perfect. The hotel deserves a cozy restaurant with good food and nice pub. I know there is the Terrace restaurant. But the Monty's is cold, there is a strong smell (from a candle or interior perfume) which is not enjoyable, and unfortunately the food is not very good. With simple but good food, and a cozy interior at Monty's, this would have been the absolute perfect stay.

The service was excellent. Initially the room we were given was sub standard, however it was changed without question and the replacements were very very good. Having recognised the mistake, to a person, every staff member treated us amazingly well. The Courtyard Retreat we had on the second night was excellent and a reason to go back in itself. The Terrace restaurant was really good and breakfasts top quality with excellent local produce

The menu options at the Terrace were perhaps 1-2 dishes to limited (could have done with a more basic meat / steak option), however this is being picky.

Very warm welcome on arrival and an excellent room. We ate at Monty’s which was great value and excellent quality. The evening receptionist suggested we could have morning tea delivered, which we did and it was on time too. We needed a postage stamp to post a card to our grandson and the lovely morning receptionist gave us one out of her own purse. She refused our offer of payment, how generous of her. Location is excellent for Beaulieu and the hotel has a large, secure car park and lovely grounds.

We could have been offered a morning paper but not a huge loss.

I picked the Montagu Arms purely for location as I'd decided to stay overnight in the area rather than travel home. I'd arrived just over an hour of booking and was impressed by the condition of the hotel, many older hotels I have stayed at before look tired and dishevelled but this was certainly not the case arriving at the Montagu through the rear secure parking area through the pleasant and well maintained garden. The staff were pleasant, polite, efficient, and went out of their way to arrange a table for evening meal despite being tight on availability. The food was outstanding, as was the table service. I will definitely remember my stay at The Montagu Arms and will stay again when I am next in the area.

The staff were all extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. The hotel was very comfortable and cosy and in an excellent position for exploring the New Forest and very close to The Palace of Beaulieu. Breakfast and dinner were delicious.

On first impressions I found the hotel a little worn - the stair carpet was threadbare and although we very much enjoyed our stay in one of the cheapest rooms, I considered the price for the room and dinner in the terrace restaurant quite expensive.
