Beautiful suite- we stayed in thomas bewick on the 5th floor Breakfast was gorgeous. Amazing choice and everything tasted so fresh We were given a complementary upgrade from deluxe double to a suite
"Fluffy" robes would be better described as exfoliating The lift was out of order. Breakfast was on the lower basement floor. So we had 7 flights to get back to our 5th floor room - not fun with asthma! Nor to oull a large suitcase down 5 flights to check out. There were signs saying staff would help with luggage, but nothing about breakfast in your room instead

The location of this hotel is amazing .. ideal for all areas of Newcastle .. The Quayside and City Centre .. The staff at the hotel are welcoming and very helpful, from reception staff to the restaurant staff to the cleaning staff we honestly cant fault any of them .. we booked an extra night (last minute booking .. booked about half hour before we arrived in Newcastle .. we were originally booked somewhere else) at the beginning of our stay and the only room available was a deluxe twin .. our original booking was for a deluxe double .. Upon booking in I requested the room I'd originally booked for the duration of our stay to save us moving rooms after the first night and they kindly made our twin deluxe room into a double deluxe so we we're able to remain in the same room for the 5 night stay .. you might be thinking surely this was nothing to the staff but in all fairness the cleaning staff had finished for the day but they still kindly did this upon request .. the rooms are clean and tidy and cleaned every day .. breakfast was well worth the extra cost .. the buffet and the choice of cooked breakfasts is enough for everyone's tastes .. from cereal or continental to eggs royal to full English .. and it was all delicious.
If I had to be picky more than 2 teas and milks etc per person would be recommended .. the staff will happily give extra but if it's in the room then there wouldn't be any need to ask and please upgrade the windows to drown out some of the traffic noise and sirens of a night .. but these 2 issues are not real issues it's just me being picky

My wife and I were satisfied with our stay in a "Deluxe Room" at the Grey Street Hotel. Our room was properly equipped, thoroughly clean, and nicely furnished and decorated. In addition it was sufficiently large, had a proper closet, and benefitted from being on the top floor with no vis-à-vis at all. The WiFi, lift and shower worked well, and the room was very effectively serviced every day. Because the room is on the top floor and has double windows, the traffic noise is limited to a background rumble which did not really trouble us. The location suited us. The station and two metro stations are easily reached on foot. Numerous bus lines pass nearby, there are innumerable restaurants and cafés, and many attractions (theatres, museums, etc.) are not far off.
The outside windows were very dirty -- which partially undercut the pleasure of the view to Gateshead. Moreover, the outside windows can only be opened an inch or two -- not enough to let in some fresh air. We would have welcomed having a mini fridge.

It is about 7 minutes from the train station on foot. Breakfast and the service team at breakfast was very good. The room was quiet. I forgot my passport and keys in the safe and the staff retrieved and kept it for me.
The window looked out onto a pediment that was used by pigeons and had a few bones on it! The layout of the room was a little odd, to use the kettle I had to take it from the wardrobe and put it on a wobbly side table and move the flowers to the floor. The windows don't open.

Loved the hotel, loved the staff, they were some of the friendliest we’ve met in a hotel, the location was perfect, the rooms are great, and the breakfast were plentiful and delicious, all of it was great. We had a suite and our friends had a double with twin beds, both were great rooms with large bathrooms including a bath, very comfortable. The suite is definitely worth spending a few extra quid for more room and comfort.
No bar area anymore which was disappointing, the lift is too small only fits 2 people tightly. If it had a bar it would be a 10. Would be ideal for a nightcap, I like to sit in a social space rather than my room for drinks, but that’s just preference, there are hundreds of bars in the area.

Fantastic location. Nice and central, near the station and short walk to the quayside. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely with a great choice. The room was well equipped with a good amount of storage. Complementary water in the room and aircon (very welcome as we stayed during a heatwave).
Shame there wasn’t a bigger reception area or a proper bar. The bathroom was a good size but the shower was quite small and hard to get the water to a consistently acceptable temperature. As there is no onsite parking we were directed to a car park very nearby which was good, but very expensive if you’re staying for a couple of nights.

Location was great. An easy walk from the railway station, even with large suitcases.
We were on the second floor but once on L2 with the lift we had to get our luggage through a door up 3 steps and down 3 steps like over a hump. Then through another door to our room. It was a bit like an adventure course to get to our room. We each had 23 kg suitcases; a carry on and a backpack. It wasn't an easy trip. The elevator took only one of us and our cases the other had to use the stairs. We are in our 70s. Experienced travellers. We are used to humping our cases.there was no porter to help us with luggage, OK but.... I think they should have realised when they saw our luggage, which they stored for 2 hours before we could access our room at 1500, that someone would have twigged at the dilemma.

We stayed in the Lord Armstrong suite. The room was spotless, bed comfy and the hotel was in a great location. We normally stay at one of the larger chain hotels which cost more, following our stay here I don't think we would return and would definitely stay at Grey street again. The staff were also lovely and accommodating.
The only things for us which were potential down sides (wouldn't go as far as saying dislike) was the lighting in the main room was quite dark which made it hard for getting ready. The water pressure in the overhead shower wasn't great and the the smaller shower head just got water all over the bathroom. Definitely not enough to deter us from staying again.

Finding the hotel was easy, as was the location of the car parking. It really isn't far from the parking so please don't let that put you off. The greeting from reception was really warm and welcoming. I had been upgraded which was a treat and so despite getting there fairly late I was able to treat myself to a lovely bath with surround colour and relax after a long day and drive. Bliss! The bed was super comfortable and I slept like a log. Rare in a new place. Breakfast was also exceptional and I would highly recommend it. Overall I was sad to leave and will definitely be returning. Next time will be social rather than business so that I can stay longer.
To be honest, I can't fault anything with the hotel. Everyone was really nice and welcoming and it was a pleasure to be in their hotel.

Good location in the city centre, easy check in and out, friendly staff and good amenities with in the room
There is no bar within the hotel, it would have been nice to order a drink when we arrived. The room was 25° and when I tried to use the air con it didn't make much of a difference. The windows don't really open much so no air was flowing through. It made getting ready in the room uncomfortable because I was constantly too hot. I would still stay again though because the hotel is lovely and in a great location... it may have just been the air con wasn't great in that room.
