dining was nice......

Public Bar area was noisy.. .locals swearing was ignored by staff...will not go in again....previous visit was spoilt by too many dogs barking and taking up floor space so tricky access. Shame . Standards there have dropped

Lovely old hotel, wonderfully placed at one end of the village, opposite the ancient church. Terrific meals (breakfast and dinners), friendly staff, good parking and truly outstanding views from the delightful gardens/grounds. Very comfortable room.

A lift would be such a boon, especially given the steepish stairs, but I can appreciate that inserting an appropriate lift in such an historic building must be a challenge. First impressions at the imposing front door were adversely impacted by the derelict, but still in use, metal cigarette container for fag ends - suggest it is removed and scrapped forthwith and the entrance area spruced up generally. Inside, the hotel was universally lovely and beautifully maintained.

As owners of 2 genuine heartbeat vehicles We come to the heartbeat rally most years and have stayed in cheaper accommodation but never as close as the mailyan spout hotel.the closest was 8 miles and the furthest 25 miles. We haven't always enjoyed the food or the smallness of the accommodation but it is only for at the most 2 nights and to be honest the choice of food was ours and the room as with the mailyan spout was booked at the last second so we got what was left..we are both in our late 70s and Maureen hasn't been well for 2 years so this time I late booked the closest I could which was the last and only room they had. It was classed as a standard room so I wasn't expecting anything like the rooms shown on their web site. I have to explain that between 1985 and 2005 I lived in Stranraer Scotland and for some years was a mystery shopper covering 3 world wide companies the venue's were different to the Mailyan spout hotel but the subject is the same. We found the Mailyan spout hotel Extremely clean and the standard room massive as was the bathroom and both complete with every extra possible . There was all the normal beverages plus bottled water for tea and coffee and a jar of shortbread biscuits there was even if requested breakfast in bed for a tiny £5 charge . the breakfast itself had all the normal cereals and everything that goes with them but also a vast display of different mixed packaged and home made yogurt and a large sweet pastry selection.my main cooked breakfast was smoked salmon with lemon and scrambled eggs and the best I've ever had as the scrambled eggs had a taste all of their own and whatever the chef did with them was shear magic. Maureen had a full English with a pot of tea she couldn't lift because it had to hold at least 4 cups as did the coffee I requested . If I remember it say's an exception breakfast is included in the price and they were telling the truth .as for the staff they were first class .

Everything was fantastic. I had arranged it as a surprise for my husbands 60th, with afternoon tea which was above & beyond. Helen on reception, was wonderful & arranged everything to our liking. I would like to thank Chef for allowing afternoon tea on a Monday. Thank you. Breakfast and dinner where both a really enjoyable experience too and all of the staff were great. Nothing was to much trouble. We will be back there soon.

The only thing I we didn't like was that we were there for only one night. Next time, we would add an extra night or two, to our stay.

FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING Staff were so nice The interior of the actual Hotel was so Cozy/Comfortable RESTAURANT INTERIOR OUTSTANDING We were Lucky with weather so sitting in the Garden was enjoyed Again SO ENJOYABLE

THIS COMMENT Is not a comment to say things were bad AS FAR FROM IT We just felt that for a standard Room the price may of been bit high for what it was And do Hope That a couple of issues with decor are kept on top of before the raiting of room goes down

This hotel deserves more than three stars. The staff are all lovely, the service is great, the beds are comfortable and rooms are clean with all you need included. The hotel has comfortable lounges, a bar and a spacious dining room. The food is delicious with plenty of choice and hygiene rating is 5 out of 5. The location is amazing and in easy reach of the rest of this beautiful, unspoilt part of the country.

The only difficulty we had was lugging our case up 2 floors and down again on departure day. This will not be a problem for the younger visitor. We knew before that there were no lifts and are not disabled. Next time we will take a case each not share a large, heavy one.

Everything was perfect. I like Goathland and Mallyan Spout Hotel. Our rooms were decorated in style and comfortable. View from both rooms windows: one on church, the other to garden, quiet and peaceful place. Evening meal from restaurant - very tasty. Good breakfast of our choice with freshly squeezed juices to choose from. Atmosphere, rooms decor, lounge with fireplaces. We left rested and fulfilled with positive vibes. Thank you to the staff. Additional compliment to chef. Check out till 11 am, so no rush.

To hold suitcase on stairs to 2 floor, as no lift, but understandable as building was build long time ago and has character

We were very impressed with the hotel. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. There were lovely views over the gardens and across the North York Moors. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the choice for breakfast was very good. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. It was my wifes birthday and they had left chocolate coated strawberries in the room on arrival. What a lovely surprise. The area is very pretty. We enjoyed a walk to the Mallyan Spout Waterfall and to Beckhole. Wonderful views all around.

Lovely old property in beautiful Goathland. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable and we had a very warm welcome from the staff. The location is peaceful, particularly in the evening and there is spears to sit in lounges or outside which have us space for some family time. Also loved the toiletries and homemade shortbread in the rooms, alongside a really fabulous breakfast. Thank you to the staff, you made this a really pleasant stay,

It is busy during the day, but only because Goathland is such a popular place.

The breakfast was good. Location lovely.

The minus weather conditions meant our bedroom was cold and this was mainly due to the fact that the heating didn’t come on until 5.0 in the afternoon. It went off at nine and came on at 6.o in the morning again. The radiator was not hot when it did come on and did not heat the room adequately. It was uncomfortably cold in the evening and far from pleasant. We arrived at 2.00 on our first day and was taken to a very cold bedroom with no heating on at all . We went to reception thinking our radiator wasn’t working only to be told it would be on soon! It came on at 5.0. Not good enough! Not sure we will return.
