I arrived early and the staff at reception was super friendly and efficient in storing my luggage and getting me going in Taunton. That was a good indication of all staff during my stay: very friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom were small, but with ample places to put my stuff without getting cluttered. Everything was clean, all facilities were in working order. I could get used to having a refrigerator in my (hotel) room. There was some construction work going on, but I did not notice too much of it; I felt they really tried to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum,

The bed was a bit squeaky.

Staff were all fantastic and so helpful. The women who checked us in could not do more for us. Told us about some pubs to visit, let us know about late check-out if we wanted, explained where the room was etc. Very helpful. The place itself is super, particularly for the price we paid (£102 for a triple room). Clean, tidy, basic but everything we needed it to be. Room was spacious, beds were very comfy, en-suite bathroom was very clean, towels were nice. We had a room at the back so it was away from the main road and nice and quiet. It was a hot day and we were thankful for the fan in the room. All in all, we had a great stay and would happily recommend and stay again.

No negatives.

I was travelling to Taunton to attend a funeral so not as a tourist. My need was for a reasonably priced hotel near the station with a 24 hour reception. This hotel ticked all these boxes and more. The hotel is a short walk from the station but not so close that there is noise. The receptionist couldn't have been nicer and kindly organised a taxi for me the next day. The room was small but had a comfortable bed and tea/coffee facilities and a small fridge. There is no restaurant (though I believe there is a kitchen which I didn't use) but the hotel is surrounded by shops, restaurants and cafes of every type. (I can recommend Venezia). The room was quiet and despite it being one of the hottest days of the year, it was cool enough with windows that open.

Everything worked well. There's no lift but they tell you that in advance.

Convenient location for travelling by train and within walking distance of town centre. Clean, basic, comfortable location for an overnight stay. Plenty of places to eat nearby. Staff were happy to store my case so that I could explore and attend an event unhampered by luggage. Wasn't disturbed by noise even though location is on a fairly busy main road.

Annoying automatic bathroom light and noisy fan activated by opening the bathroom door - OK in the daytime but not great for night time trips to the loo (potential to wake a partner and possibly loud enough to disturb the next room occupants too). Small issue but minor repairs needed to bathroom like fixing a loo roll holder and replacing a bathroom shelf.

Clean and comfortable with extremely friendly staff. I do hope the owners value their staff as they definitely add to my 10/10 review! Stayed in a large treble room at the front.with my daughter. We did need to keep windows closed during the night due to road noise, but you can see its on a main road when you book. If we had been staying more than one night i would have asked for a fan which i believe they have. I was surprised to find a fridge in the room which would be a bonus if staying longer. There is also a kitchen which you could use, and i understand you can have clothing washed and dried for a reasonably amount. I would definitely return if staying in taunton.

Road noise but your in a city.

Staff and location were wonderful, rooms clean, comfy, and spacious. We were impressed with the CCTV 24 hours a day, ensuring all staff and guests were safe. We were given a history talk by one of the reception staff about Lady ashton and the history of the hotel. An added bonus that could be made into a 'leaflet' or added to your welcome booklet. Found it fascinating...any photos from the past would also be a welcome addition.

The oven/grill was tiny. A full sized oven would be good. Also the back gate was blowing about when we arrived and banging as it wouldn't close properly. We managed to prop it closed with a clothes rail that had been left outside for that purpose. It could do with being fixed properly. (We were in the ground floor flat)

I recently had an amazing time at the Royal Ashton Townhouse in Taunton. The staff were absolutely fantastic, super friendly and helpful, making check-in a breeze. The rooms are a bit basic, but they’re perfectly functional and it’s clear they’ve been recently refurbished—everything felt fresh and modern. But what really impressed me was how clean everything was! My room was spotless, and the bed was super comfy. The location is also great—it’s less than a 5-minute walk from Taunton Railway Station and only 10 minutes into the town centre on foot. For the price, it’s an absolute steal, especially compared to other options in the area. I’d definitely stay again!

Honestly, nothing — everything was really good from start to finish.

We stayed in the ground floor, 2 bed apartment. It's possibly the friendliest place I've ever stayed in. I dont think I've met friendlier or more helpful staff anywhere in England. They definitely go the extra mile. It's clean, warm and comfortable and reasonably priced. It's within walking distance of great places to shop, eat and drink. Turmeric Kitchen, across the road, is fabulous. Also within walking distance of the train station Buses stop outside the door. Taxis are pretty reliable. The town centre is a very pleasant 10 - 15 minutes walk away The Musgrove hospital is about 20 minutes walk too - if, like us, you're there for appointments. Taunton itself is a nice town. Lots going on and very nice people.

My sister and I came for two nights to celebrate my Auntie’s 90th birthday. We booked a twin room on the upper floor. However we were put in the Ground floor flat so we were spoilt for beds and it was very spacious. So close to our family’s property too

Although we appreciated the ground floor flat it was slightly concerning having a door from the bedroom onto a public place (even though locked) and a small garden area that had a gate to same area that wouldn’t stay bolted. We were fine but anyone afraid of intruders I suspect wouldn’t maybe sleep so soundly

Plenty of space in the flatlet. Lovely large TV and comfy sofa in the lounge. Very comfortable bed with plenty of towels. The place was very clean and simple. Basics like tea and coffee were provided and some milk pots in the fridge.

As just one person I didn't require much in the way of cooking equipment, but I did feel more modern equipment could have been provided in the flat especially if 4 people were staying there. I couldn't dry the equipment I used in the kitchen as no tea towel was provided.
