Restaurant service very good. We had a family funeral afternoon tea for 35 persons here, which went very well. The bar and restaurant areas were very attractive in that there were smaller 'cosier' areas to sit in. And we (and our guests) loved the design of the wine-box tables!

The fact that our sash window looked out on to busy traffic crossroads, and the room had no air conditioning, so we had the choice of fresh air and noise, or no noise but too warm. There was only one chair to sit on, and its seat had a couple of splits in its cover (Room 33) The restaurant chairs are perhaps a couple of centimetres too low for the tables?

The room was spacious and clean with a nice walk in shower and separate toilet and washbasin, fridge and tea and coffee facilities. The bed was huge and very, very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cereals and fruit, tea, coffee and the cooked choice was also very good. We were visiting family in the area so didn't have an evening meal in the hotel.

Our only criticism is the lack of a comfortable lounge. All the furniture in the bar, public lounge and dining room is solid wood. This is OK for eating a meal, but afterwards it would have been nice to relax in a comfy chair.

Pleasant double room ideally suited for one person Fridge with fresh milk was a nice touch Very hot water to sink & bath with easy to use taps Very efficient heating (conversely it was too hot for me!) Comfortable bed

Long walk to room on 2nd floor (28) No lift. Receptionist didn't bother to give any directions to the room, nor offer any help with luggage Bathroom was very cramped, but otherwise well appointed. Paintwork under sink looked steam/water damaged though and needed attention When I showered it was difficult to regulate the water temperature with the mixer taps - either too cold, or scalding hot! There was a hair in the bath and it had a visible tide mark so hadn't been cleaned properly Pillows were too high for me, with no thinner alternative

The food was excellent particularly the dinners. And the fixed price 2-course dinner had a good range of options. The bed was large and comfortable. The staff were all very good, particularly the women who checked in guests, served in the bar and dining room.

It was difficult to get an even temperature in the shower. And twice one morning the shower temperature suddenly increased significantly and I had to jump out of the reach of the spray. I wondered whether someone in the room above mine had used their shower and taken away the cold water in my room.

It’s a lovely building with a lot of history. Rooms were clean and comfortable. There was a small bottle of milk in the fridge for the tea and coffee in the room. We had dinner in the restaurant on the Sunday and the food was plentiful and cooked really nice

The lack of drawers for putting clothes in. The wardrobe was an open shelf style with short hanging space so no good for long items of clothing such as trousers and long dresses. In the bathroom it lacked a shelf for toiletries. The toiletries they supply are in large bottles fixed to the wall and container the same soap at the sink and in the shower, so only for body wash.

Ideal location as a short walk to the town centre. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Comfortable room with hospitality tray and loved the small pleasure of fresh milk in the fridge for an early morning cuppa! Also pleased to see coffee at breakfast was not from a machine, thankfully, and the system of choosing/ordering food the night before worked well for me as my cooked breakfast was fresh and hot and arrived at my table when I was ready for it.

Nothing to say here really; I was only staying for one night and have no complaints.

The parking is safe and secure, I requested a move from the 2nd floor to ground floor and we were given a room separate from the hotel with its own parking space, we had no immediate neighbours so it was very quiet, the breakfast was very nice and the staff are very attentive , they also use an excellent taxi company that are almost half the price of the other taxis, which we found to our cost, I wish I’d asked for their number for a return trip,

We had 2 single beds pushed together, this would be fine, however, the mattresses are hypno, excellent well made but the edges are hand stitched and very hard, so despite the 2 mattress toppers it wasn’t the best night sleep, but as I’d asked to change rooms they did accommodate us so I’m grateful for it

It's in a good location, just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. The room was clean and tidy. I like the fact that it had a bath. Breakfast was really good, made fresh from the previous evenings form.

I don't understand why they feel the need to charge residents for parking, doesn't seem fair regardless of the amount. If you pay good money for a room and breakfast it should be part of the deal. I stay at lots of hotels, b&b's and in 95% it is free to park, as it should be. I'd be interested to know the reasoning behind it.

Lovely clean hotel with very welcoming and friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere. Good size room which was clean and comfortable. Really appreciated the bottle of milk in the fridge. Nice, comfy bed. Private parking at the rear of the hotel with cctv for a small cost (£5) which the hotel kindly allowed us to stay in beyond the checkout time so we could explore the town on foot. This was very helpful. Lovely hotel. Lovely staff 😊

I wasn't particularly keen on the town itself. It was my first ever visit to Taunton and I found some of the streets very run down and dirty. I was particularly disturbed and upset by the amount of homeless people sat/led in the streets of the town. I must emphasise that this is in no way a reflection on the hotel at all - which I very much enjoyed. Sadly, I think it's all too common in many towns and city centres.

Room (33) was fine, nice size, and all the necessary fittings. Bed was mostly comfortable. Towels nice and big and fluffy. Good coffee station. Breakfast superb, catered for all choices and the fresh individually cooked breakfast was very hot and tasty. Restaurant food is again superb, about the best I have had in this standard of hotel. Thanks Chef. Good bar area. Great location with just a 12-15 minute walk to Somerset CCC. Staff efficient and courteous.

Large King Double Bed was in fact 2 singles joined together with a bit of a lump in the middle. Room quite noisy from adjoining rooms and plumbing from above. Overall a little expensive considering the overall quality of room.
