We stayed here a few years back and decided to stay again on our way to Plymouth for the ferry. It's got great parking or if you're coming by train the station is across the road. We were able to get a beer while we were waiting to check in, plus they have outside seating front and back of the building. There is no lift so you do have to carry your bags up to the first floor. The rooms are large in size and are very clean. The bed was comfy and the bathroom had a large walk in shower. The only downside was the noise coming from the station and drunk people, but by the time we went to bed, there was no noise, so don't let that put you off. The hotel is within walking distance to the pubs and restaurants. I would recommend the Wildwood which you can't miss in the town. As for the staff here they are all very helpful and friendly. I did feel sorry for the lad at breakfast as there was a bit of a delay with the food due to a problem in the kitchen but we didn't find it a issue. The breakfast was very nice and cooked to order so you expect it to take a bit longer anyway. I would stay here again when travelling down south for sure.

My wife & I stayed for the second time on Tuesday 20th May 2025. The hotel is located immediately outside the Railway Station down platform. It had maintained its high standard and the staff did everything they could to make one’s stay a pleasant experience. I had no hesitation of recommending it to travellers and will use it again on my next trip. If I were to give one negative comment – the hotel is like most, but not all, hotels which do not provide full milk but only semi-skimmed milk. I question why those of us who prefer full milk are not catered for. Consequently I had to miss having cereals and tea for breakfast – I should mention the cooked breakfast was very good and set one off for the day.

The property is spacious, clean, bright and we had a lovely view over the gardens. I was particularly pleased to know it was being used to help train apprentices, and all the staff were exceptionally good. The breakfast was very good, too.

It was just a bit too far for me to walk into town, but I do have a disability so I don’t think it’ll be a problem for most people. I expected it to be quite noisy because it’s directly opposite the station, but it was nice and quiet as our room was over the garden. Maybe some of the rooms overlooking the station will be noisier.

Clean, spacious, and comfortable. Friendly, helpful staff. Best night's sleep away from home I've had in a long time, beds were extrely comfortable. Walking distance from amenities. Would definitely return if I was visiting Taunton again.

Wasn't informed the brioche rolls for breakfast had been replaced with burger buns with sesame seeds on. My son is allergic to sesame seeds to the extent he carries epi-pens. We noticed before he started eating, so no problem. But staff need better training on allergens and communicating this to customers when amendments are made.

Lovely welcome from staff as ever. We've stayed 4 or 5 times before. Comfy, cosy room. Great shower. Super choice at breakfast time.

Needs a little maintenance on the window sashes which were broken on both windows. Now offering a drop in breakfast, which resulted in a very busy morning on the last day of our 5 night stay, good for business, but little choice of where to sit for us, not ideal eating cooked breakfast on a low settee, but we managed. Suggest maybe could have a nominated time/reserved table for residents in the dining room.

Directly outside the station - so perfect for train travellers. Hotel has been well refurbished and the rooms are a very clean, and a good size with two chairs. For some reason many hotels only provided one in a double/twin room. Most of the staff are young people in training - it's great to see this investment in practical work experience and so therefore it's not difficult to make allowances for occasional lapses in panache.

Great location right opposite the railway station and a short walk into town. The room was comfortable and breakfast was fine. Staff were friendly. There's a nice lounge area on the ground floor with rail related books and interesting information about the hotel's renovation.

From the bedroom we could often hear a loud noise of water rushing through pipes from other rooms. They locked the hotel front door quite early, before 9pm. The process then is to ring the bell and wait for the night porter, which didn't take too long but it's still not an ideal system on a cold evening. No black pudding with the breakfast, even though it was listed on the menu.

Location was good - especially the proximity to the station and the cricket ground. There were also pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance. Breakfast was excellent and so were the staff at reception and breakfast. Room was a good size and the walk in shower was superb.

One morning I was asked if I wanted my room serviced and I said no. On my return in the evening my towels had been replaced despite the fact that I had left them on the rack. No hand towel had been left. Later in the stay I asked for a toilet roll but this was not actioned. A couple of evenings I returned to the hotel after 10 o clock (which meant I was supposed to ring the bell to be let in) but the door wasn't locked. In theory that meant that anyone could have gained access to the hotel.

Extremely well located next to rail station and parking, and just 5 minutes walk from a decent Italian restaurant. This is a historic railway hotel from the early days of Victorian railway-building, which has been pleasantly refurbished. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was lovely.

The bedroom included a large writing desk, but no wardrobe. There were just 4 wire coathangers. A smaller desk and better hanging space, please, plus coat hooks on the door. The hotel has various images etc relating to its GWR ancestry. (Bizarrely, there is also a picture of a "Mallard" A4 type built in Doncaster, which seems totally irrelevant.) More could be made of this. For example the bedrooms are named on some sort of woodland or nature theme. I think they are seriously missing a trick in not naming them Brunel, Gooch, Armstrong, Dean, Churchward, Collett. Hawksworth etc etc with info about such great personalities.

Breakfast was great, the full english was large and tasty and came out quickly. Staff were welcoming. The bedroom was small and basic but comfy with a large shower, coffee/tea making and biscuits/water provided. The hotel has lovely high ceilings and is super convenient next to the train station and a few minutes walk to some good restaurants.

Its a bit dated in terms of decor but to be expected with the price so we weren't worried. The rooms have names not numbers which makes it a little more challenging to find your room - but again not complaining really as it's quite querky! The entrance is very strange if you arrive by car, you almost have to walk across the grass from the car park and the hotel was in darkness so we weren't sure if we had got the right place.
