Location of the property was ideal, 1 minute walk to the cliff overlooking the beach which was great, 5 minutes and we was in town, walked down each day but caught a taxi on the back as a steep climb. Hotel looked like it had been refurbished, the rooms were lovely, beds comfortable , towels of a good standard. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choices and the cooked breakfast was piping hot, we did not dine at night but the menu was a good variety, the staff always smiling and helpful, we would certainly stay again if we visit Whitby

Parking was first come first served basis, but we only found this out once we’d booked ( payment not refundable) but thankfully we managed to park up each day.

Hotel was built n 1964 and still retains some of its old fashioned charm. Quite a lot of refurbishment has been done. I had a single room, very clean, comfortable bed, bath/shower with complimentary toiletries. Plenty of wardrobe an drawer space. Complimentary tea/ coffee. The staff are very helpful and friendly. There is a good choice for breakfast. There is a waitress service which is a nice touch from the usual buffet style breakfasts, breakfast was cooked to order as opposed to congealing on a hot plate. White tablecloths, very clean. On the first morning you are shown to your table , then have the same one for the rest of your stay. Although there is a menu, you can mix and match your own selection. There is free wi-fi but not a very good reception in the rooms, a lot better on the ground floor. There is free private parking which is very rare in Whitby. I cannot understand why people have given this hotel a low rating as I was thoroughly pleased with my stay there. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

Very clean, spacious and well appointed room; Comfortable and welcoming hotel in general; very attentive staff and very good customer service; excellent breakfast - choices, portions, quality and preparation of food. The hotel is in a very good location - very quiet and peaceful but only around 15 minutes walk into Whitby centre. I stayed with my wife - both of us late 60's - and used the hotel to tour the area (Runswick Bay, Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes) as well as getting to know Whitby. It suited us perfectly and wold definitely stay again. Highly recommended hotel.

Very quiet hotel with very friendly staff. Greeted by a lovely lady on arrival who explained the layout of the hotel. First impression was it was a wee bit old fashioned but everything worked so well, rooms very clean and well decorated and furnished. Plenty tea and coffee with wee biscuits and water including a wee teapot which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious and staff so lovely and professional. Silver service Teapot and being served our breakfast was another lovely touch. Never made to feel rushed-so relaxing! Would definitely recommend and we will return to stay at this hotel as just felt so relaxed here. Perfect location as quiet area and parking available.

In a quiet location, a short walk away from the town, the hotel is of the old seaside type, which is immaculate and obviously continues to be maintained to a high standard. I shared a deluxe twin room with a friend, which was of generous size and spotlessly clean (as was the whole hotel). Beds were quite soft but comfy and well spaced apart. Staff were very friendly and quick to respond to check in, queries, and the bar. There was a variety of options on the menu for breakfast, which was ordered at the table and served by the staff. If I were to return to Whitby, I would definitely stay here again.

The car park was a bit on the small side, but saying that, we did manage to park for our overnight stay.

We booked a standard twin, when visiting relatives in Whitby. The hotel was situated in a good position, near the West Cliff with plenty of private parking. We went into reception to let them know we had arrived and were leaving the car in the car park. Even though we were early, our room was ready and we were allowed to check in. The room was exactly as we expected and was spotlessly clean. On the evening we were going to go out just to a local pub but the rain was so heavy we stayed at the hotel bar, ordered a cheese board from the restaurant and sat and enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and a chat with other residents. The following morning we both enjoyed a lovely breakfast.

Stayed for one night for a Birthday trip out. Hotel lovely, a bit olde worldy but we like that. Hotel is spotless and staff very friendly. Our room was large, airy and very clean and well furnished. Bathroom looked recently refurbished and good size with shower over bath. We didn't use the restaurant for evening meal as we were only staying the one night and wanted some famous Whitby fish and chips. If we were staying longer would have used as menu looked good. Breakfast was superb and catered very well for my wife who is gluten free. Hotel is a little bit further out of town but a pleasant 10-15 min walk along the sea front brings you to harbour area.

Nothing to dislike

Great room, breakfast was good. Service was outstanding (Thanks Alison!). The location is perfect and free parking (if you can get in first) is a bonus. The experience was wonderful, particularly the attention to detail and being in a hotel that valued traditional standards. It rare to experience a hotel that have staff that truly value 'service' as a vocation and do it extremely well - this is undoubtedly the hotel's strength and sets it aside from others.

The Wi-Fi signal was poor in our room, so for some this might be a problem. Also, the more traditional bathroom was OK but could have been improved with a power-shower. Great to have slippers and dressing gown. We had a meal in the evening and this was not so good. You have a great chef so please avoid fries, cook proper Whitby chips and also fresh veg. peas were not so good and certainly not seasonal! The evening meal was disappointing and too expensive for what we had.

Very clean and lovely place. Rooms were nice, a little old fashioned but clean and tidy. Only had breakfast there, which were very nice and substantial. Didn't need lunch. All the staff were so nice and helpful. Location was in a nice place area, just off the sea front. Around 15 mins walk to Whitby town centre.

Felt like the hotel was, which was well populated was for the older generation. Felt like we were the youngest by a good 10 years. That wasn't a negative, had a natter wi some fellow visitors. Just had a feel about it. The location, room and food were spot-on.

What a fabulous hotel - very clean and quiet and with staff who were all extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely top floor room (deluxe double room 22), which was perfect for our needs. Dinner was really good and we loved the traditional way that we had full waitress service and that the side dishes we ordered were served in trays for us to serve ourselves from, just as it was in times past. By no means an old-fashioned hotel, this was just a lovely traditional style venue that we would 100% recommend and visit again.
