We like that the hotel was originally a department store many years ago. Love the architecture and design of the entire building. It's an older building but well maintained for the most part. Could use a few building maintenance improvements here and there but just the finer details. A lot of it adds to the character of the place. We had room 207 which is a king suite with a whirlpool tub. The room had lots of space with a pull-out couch. Very clean. We interacted with I believe six different staff members and all were extremely friendly and helpful! Downstairs is a handmade chocolate store. You can watch the chocolate being made from the interior hallway. Walking distance to great restaurants.
While the mattress was in good condition, it was very stiff/firm for us. We're side and stomach sleepers and shoulders hurt in the morning. This is very subjective though and other rooms may have different mattresses. Probably great if you're a back sleeper. Sheets were clean and bright white and pillows were great. Had a good mini fridge but no microwave so that would be a nice addition.

One of the single greatest hotel experiences in my life. With the stereo and TV, we could be as loud as we wanted (within reason), so it felt homey. This is a special place, and people should experience it. My partner and I are a queer couple. We felt very safe. It's also right downtown, so we could walk to bookstores close by, places to eat, bars, museums, hot sauce shops, adult stores, and dispensaries, a public library, and the basilica.
My partner and I were both bitten by a spider in our bed. It's okay. We're not mad. We have welts. Maybe up Terminator sprays. I mean, stuff happens. No worries. We love you.

Close to the show we attended and right in the downtown area close to all the shops and restaurants, also had dinner at their rooftop Hemmingways Cuban restaurant and was wonderful and enjoyed the outdoor area with heaters and a great view of downtown, would recommend this hotel the staff is above and beyond and will definitely stay there again.
Everything from the greeting at the front gate to the beautiful large room and valet parking, all we had to do was enjoy ourselves this was a great choice.

My room was amazing, and spacious. Such a cool, unique hotel with a lot of history, and I love that they keep that history alive and in-theme. Walking distance to everything. Trolley stop right out front. Convenient valet parking.
They are under construction, I believe on the restaurant/ will be reopening a new restaurant. Not a huge problem, as these things are necessary. But worth noting that was unavailable. There was a restaurant (and shops) within the same building, so that is certainly a positive under the circumstances.

Loved the location, walking distance to restaurants and shops. Old style building. Large room with view of quaint shops below. Really friendly, attentive staff, connected to Bier Garten where we went for a drink, watched our home team football game and played pool. Valet parking. Definitely staying again.
Would definitely want a microwave and table to sit at!! Stayed seven nights and had lots of leftovers. Was post Helene and furnace was sub par. They provided space heaters so we were comfortable.

The room was huge! Very clean and comfortable. Loved the 2 separate sink areas with one having a bench for easy makeup application. The hotel did a great job incorporating elements from the original department stores. Right in the middle of town, easy walk to everything. Nice bar at the back of the hotel.
Slightly disappointed that the restaurant wasn’t open on the days we were there. Wasn’t aware prior to visit that there was an extra charge with the valet parking, but the service was great!

Beautiful and very clean. Extremely large rooms. Great location for walking to shops, restaurants and coffee shops. The valets were great. Very friendly and helpful. They have much better attitudes than most of the front desk employees.
Some of the front desk employees aren’t the friendliest. Very few of them would even give you a smile or hello. One young man was extremely rude to my husband on 2 separate occasions when asking simple questions. He treated my husband like he was stupid and beneath him and gave him dirty looks while huffing because he couldn’t be bothered to be asked for information. If you want return guests you should get friendlier front desk employees. When there are people that are visiting from another state and need information or help with something, your “customer service” should service your customer without treating them like they’re an inconvenience.

Location was excellent. Everything was within walking distance. Food, drinks, and even the concert venue we came for were always within a 15 min walk.
I made the reservation and paid months ago and it said it included breakfast. When we get there, the restaurant is being renovated so no breakfast and we just got 20% off at a nearby restaurant. That was extra money we weren't planning on spending. Also no smart tv so no streaming services available to log into. That wasn't a big deal though.

A truly remarkable hotel! We had an amazing stay thanks to Bill's excellent customer service! The hotel was gorgeous! It had a 20s/30s vibe with Jazz live music and great decor. I felt like I had stepped back in time. The hotel is authentically restored with themed floors of the department store that once resided there. I loved everything about this hotel! Thanks to Bill at the front desk who was extremely helpful and gave us a beautiful room with a view of downtown Asheville. The room was spacious, well furnished, and clean with really compfortable beds (even the fold out couch bed was comfy). The bathroom and the tub were amazing, as well.

The hotel was gorgeous! It had a 20s/30s vibe with Jazz live music and great decor. Thanks to Bill at the front desk (who should be promoted to manager) for being so accomodating and upgraded our room after we had issues with our first room. The room was so big, well funished, and clean with really compfy beds and big window with a great view of downtown Asheville. It was truly a memorable stay! We will be back!
