I was impressed that the old firehouse in late 1900s is converted to a hostel - kind of authentic as a hostel ーIt adds a touch of charm to the old atmosphere of Austin. The sturdy old wooden bunk beds, probably used by old firefighters, are particularly comfortable and have a unique charm that is not found in the simple pipe bunk beds in other dome rooms. I also particularly liked the wooden doors on the bathroom booths, which are rare these days. There's also a nice hidden bar behind the bookshelf near the entrance, but I didn't drink so I couldn't use itー

I stayed only two days and wanted to find good touring spots as possible, but I missed most of it because the lady at the front desk never wished to provide any suggestion for very restricted stayer, and later I realized I should have just signed up to the 'guided audio tour of ghost tour of Austin around this neighborhood starting in the old Mayor's mantion on this street, I really regret that! I only visited the State capitol within limited time. I wish the staff person to be more informative

A hostel used Austin's 1st firehouse built in 1800s. Modest but nice..i liked the classic wooden beds, kitchen and shared bathroom's old feature much better than today's facilities. the wooden bunk bed is better than the pipe bed of ordinary dorm rooms. There is a hidden guest bar behind the bookshelf at lobby..all matches classical district's air.

The kitchen's microwave was broken! While I missed the chance to go to Austin's audio-guided ghost tour around nearby historical mansions like city manor's old house- the front desk person evaded the question and didn't give me any tourist info so i missed the valuable opportunity of staying 2 nights only.

It was a fantastic hostel experience for me. I met so many great people on my first day there and with such a diversity of cultures it was always exciting. The location is right on dirty 6th Str and couldn't be better. But what tops it all are the amazing pub crawls led by Rara. Every night out was sure to be an unforgetable experience with free drinks, great tables and without a moment wasted in a line.

My biggest problem I encountered whike checking out. I wish I could have stayed forever. Thx everyone at Firehouse Hostel for letting me experience your little slice of heaven!

I stayed for F1, and everyone who stayed in the same room had the same purpose. So I went it together and had a good experience. It would have been a shame if it wasn't for this hostel. The location was very good, affordable, and clean. It was convenient because each bed included a fan, a light, and a shelf. I was worried when I saw the review that bedbugs came out, but I'm glad it didn't happen.

When I first went, my locker was already locked, so I couldn't use it

Great place to stay if you're in town, and want to meet people. You can get some work done in building and at the local cap fed cafe. People are nice, bed's are comfy, wifi is good, plus free laundry and a bar downstairs. Really no complaints. Oh and the hostel will hold events like group pub crawls and trips to barton springs to soak up the sun in the water. You'll make good friends in no time.

The price can be a bit much but it's downtown austin, you won't find anything better.

Getting Overpriced. Now charging after tax what I would pay at a budget motel..only in those I have privacy..my own bathroom.. my own bed and in some places my own kitchenette or free breakfast for no more than 55.00. I shouldn't be paying close to that amount for a shared dorm hostel. 25.00 plus tax is ideal to 35.00 after tax maximum in a small shared space with no extra amenities. I travel for on call work contract so this location is convenient but the prices not so much.

Howie is the man. Kindly answered any questions I had and just a super chill dude. Location is primo. If you are in Austin trying to enjoy 6th st you couldn't ask for a better location. The speakeasy behind the bookcase was also a blast. I'm afraid I can't remember their names but the bartenders were also super cool. If your looking for a budget stay and all you need is a place to sleep and shower, you can't beat the price for the location.

It is a hostel. This place is meant for solo travelers or perhaps a group of friends. If you plan on hanging out at all where you are staying on your trip then I would suggest looking into an actual hotel.

Comfortable beds. Insane shower—may as well be a car pressure washer. Great guests. Great staff. Comfortable beds. Massive lockers. Lovely stroll to the capitol.

Better be a deep sleeper with the club/bar underneath the hostel—the bed was shaking. The entire Austin Downtown has 1 supermarket—and it is not particularly close. Could have shelves next to bed to place stuff on.

Brilliant location right in the centre of Austin, walking distance to lots of sights and bus distance to others (and the 24 hrs bus ticket only costs $2.50). I got a free welcome beer on arrival and it came with a free hostel branded koozie, which was a nice bonus. All of the staff members were very helpful and there were loads of spaces to work if you needed them. Kitchen and bathrooms were clean and not too busy. Really big lockers in the rooms that you could secure with your own padlock

Room was a bit dark and dingy and it was quite small for 8 beds, but they provided ear plugs and I was still able to sleep well

It's terrific value for the area and it's just a few blocks away from every place I need to reach whenever I'm in town. Staff runs things well without being jerks and I find most everyone in the hostel to be friendly and considerate.

Not a dislike as much as something to plan for - if you're an early riser, you'll want to lay out everything you need for the next day in advance and make sure you're able to find those things in the dark.
