Grand old style hotel that's very conveniently located close to Salamanca Place (just a quick walk through the nearby park to reach it) and also the main streets of the Hobart CBD. The hotel itself was very comfortable, my room was a lot more spacious than I was expecting and it has a bit of atmosphere about it being in an older period building. If you're catching the airport bus, stop number 4 is pretty much across the street, so very convenient. Staying at the Macquarie was the icing on the cake of a great trip to Hobart!

They do point this out in the compendium in the room, but because the plumbing is as old as the building, it does indeed take a very long time to get hot water in the shower!! Also, you actually have to ask reception to make your room up if you want it done - they don't do it as a default.

This is a beautiful convict-era manor house that has been restored and now operates as a boutique hotel and wine bar. I was given an upgrade as I was staying early in the week, when they are quiet, so they were happy to give me a great room. With a four-poster bed and a decorative fireplace, I felt like a lady of means! The staff were welcoming, professional and helpful. The breakfast spread was excellent. Only 10 minutes walk to Salamanca Place.

Macquarie Street is a main thoroughfare and even double glazing can’t keep the street noise at bay during morning and afternoon peak traffic. It wasn’t a problem for me, but there is no elevator to reach the higher level, so people with mobility issues will need to contact the hotel to secure a ground level room.

We had a wonderful stay at The Macquarie Hobart. The hotel has a lovely old-world charm, so if you’re into character-filled places with a bit of history, this one’s for you. As expected with older buildings, not everything is flawless, but that’s part of the charm. The beds were really comfortable, and the bathroom felt clean and recently updated. The staff at this place were also so great — they were genuinely friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. They really made us feel at home. Despite being located just off a busy street, the place was incredibly quiet—we felt like we had it all to ourselves. Overall, it was a peaceful, charming stay and excellent value for money. Would definitely stay again!

Room 1 had a small section with a very squeaky / flimsy floor board. I feel bad for the downstairs room.

Another heritage-type building, this one without an elevator ( although staff will assist with luggage as required). Could be an issue for those with mobility problems however. In addition the hotel is located on a ridge, which is a bit of a climb if you end up spending a lot of your time down on the flat area of the waterfront. For my wife and I, this presented no problems, and the location was very central to other parts of the CBD that we walked to. Regarding staff, I really only saw whoever was rostered at reception ( they were each friendly and helpful). Given that reception was also in the breakfast room/bar/coffee area, the same staff member appeared to cover all of that too. The hotel did not seem busy for the 3 days we were there so it seemed to work. But staff levels did seem sparse. The room itself was large, with a very comfortable bed, small-ish but very adequate bathroom, and good wifi. The furniture was all old-fashioned and interesting, perhaps even antique. We loved it. A special word about the breakfast. It was Continental style with local produce. It wasn’t the big chain-hotel buffet style feast, but we were very very happy with what was offered! It was great! We would definitely stay at this hotel again. As for local recommendations: besides all the bars and restaurants in the waterfront area, try Flippers Fish n Chips (good), Jackman & McRoss Bakery in Battery Point (superb), and Ja & Jon Vietnamese in the Elizabeth Street Mall (walking street), which also has loads of retail stores, ATMs, restaurants and a Woolworths supermarket.

There was a musty smell in the room that was noticeable in the beginning but not overtly bothersome.

Jasmine on the front desk was a credit to your business, she was so lovely to us! Thank you Jasmine ! The bed was very comfy and the free upgrade was very much appreciated. The location was perfect for exploring Tasmania and Hobart. The pastries and yogurts provided for breakfast were really nice. We slept well here and would recommend it to travellers looking to explore Tasmania.

We only got one fresh towel when our room was made up which was disappointing. We also weren’t given tea bag’s or coffee with the room but we were given a kettle and milk…

The Macquarie building is an 1875 vintage building. From the moment you walk in the door it feels welcoming and opulent with burgundy carpet and heavy red velvet furniture. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was very comfortable. Nice little extras were the included breakfast and biscuits on the mini bar. This was also the only accommodation we found that was able to cater to a group of three without doubling the price. We were very happy with our stay.

As with any inner city accommodation, there is very limited parking. This is not a criticism as there was public parking within a few minutes walk.

Macquarie Manor is a grand old building and tastefully decorated . The bed was extremely comfortable and the facilities were good . The manor is very quiet and you feel like you’re there on your own . The staff are great . Very friendly and accommodating. The continental breakfast was excellent and included in the price . Overall the stay was very good value for money .

The stairs …. After a long day of walking Hobart we were exhausted everyday.

There isn't a part of my stay that I didn't enjoy. The staff were fab, super helpful and polite. The location was great, only a short walk to everything. The building looked stunning inside and out, and my room was a suite, which was exceptional. I needed to extend my stay by a day, which they organised easily for me. There was on-site parking, with enough spaces. The continental breakfast is really well laid out, and good quality. I'd happily stay there again.

Location excellent for walking city. Close to wharfs, markets, Franklin Square, Battery Point, Museum/ Art Gallery, shopping centres. Room was spacious and clean. Sofa and bed comfortable. Cold water readily available. Continental breakfast good. Staff extremely efficient, friendly and helpful

It Is Heritage building so no lift, and some of the fitments in our room were in need of repair/ replacement. Traffic noise in our room from Davey Street at rear not helped by old windows being jammed open.

The room was clean and huge with high ceiling. Bed was comfy, but a bit soft if you like a firm bed. The breakfast was a substantial continental selection and we were very satisfied. We loved the old style of the decor, suits the age of the manor. Staff were absolutely fabulous, so bright, chirpy and helpful, well done girls!

There was quite a bit of traffic noise as the windows are old and only single glaze. The hot water took ages to come ip to the room, but once there, was great. That's the only downsides of this beautiful old building. A suggestion would be to install gas fires in the old fireplaces downstairs and maybe a nice candle for the added ambience as guests enter.
