Sovereign Hill Hotel is a charming accommodation option located within the famous Sovereign Hill historical park in Ballarat, Victoria. It provides visitors with a unique opportunity to stay immersed in the gold rush era, featuring a mix of modern comfort and period-style décor. The hotel offers a variety of room types, including family rooms, budget-friendly options, and premium suites, catering to different travelers. Staying at the hotel allows guests easy access to Sovereign Hill’s attractions, including underground mine tours, gold panning, live theatre performances, and costumed characters reenacting 1850s life. The hotel is also close to Ballarat’s other attractions, such as the Gold Museum, Lake Wendouree, and the Eureka Centre. It’s a great choice for families, history lovers, and tourists looking for a relaxing yet immersive experience in one of Australia’s most famous heritage sites.

Great location if visiting Sovereign Hill. Historical building well maintained. Friendly team doing their best to assist. Though the room is bit tired, it was overall clean.
Only two sets of cups/glasses even though 3 guests registered staying. Pillows too flat and soft. Very poor Wi-Fi signal. Suggest to place a king size bed topper if not used as two singles to minimise the feeling of the gap. The heritage building is not sound proof so could hear clearly people entering the main door as well as every step up/down the stairs - this didn’t bother us as we expected it.

I liked that it was close to shopping and right next door to Sovereign Hill. The staff were very pleasant. It was very clean.
Trying to watch TV at night,we kept getting just a blue screen and nearly gave up but we found one channel with a picture and ended up watching a horror movie. The showers are way too small and my husband had to stand outside and just have a good wash. One small milk for 3 people. The door kept banging right next to us as people went out and came in and to top it off the people in the next room had small children who decided to have a very loud tantrum. Our grandson who has Autism was getting frustrated with the noise and watching TV helps but he couldn't do that so I sat on his bed holding a phone for him to watch as he can't watch horror.

The accomodation was great value for money. The bathrooms and bedrooms all clean. The heating cooling worked well The blind was broken but it wasn’t a major issue. It just either had to be rolled up the whole way or it would drop down. The adult bed was comfortable. The kids didn’t like the bunkers though said it wasn’t comfortable. There were also profanities written underneath the first bunker so my youngest read them and decided not to sleep there anymore. Despite all this it was a comfortable stay. It’s close to sovereign Hill. I think it’s worth the money that you’re paying. It’s very cost-effective especially for families.
The swear words and profanity that were written under the bunkbed the top bunk bed so the person sleeping on the lower bunker could actually read it. The children also said that they didn’t find the bunkers quite comfortable but that’s okay. It wasn’t a big deal but, some of the wordings that were written under that bunker probably need to be painted out or blackened out.

Set in idyllic surroundings, along the edge of Sovereign Hill. These rooms have a beautiful scenic view of the mining village. A pleasant evening stroll around the facility, which includes a lookout for miles around. A really lovely place to stay with that feeling of antiquity. We enjoyed our stay so much, we came back for a second night.
The cost of breakfast in the main building is very pricey. There are however, some lovely cafe's around the local area.

The room was clean and comfortable, styled in the older colonial style, which is a lovely touch. The room was quiet, and you could not hear the other guests coming or going. The toiletries that are supplied are nice and smelt wonderful. Breakfast is a good option in the morning, it's kind of a buffet you can get your own toast, pastries and friut, but they ask if you want a hot meal which you get a choice of scrabbled or fried eggs. Entry to sovereign Hill is not included in your stay, but you can purchase entry at the hotel and enter the park via the hotel, which is handy.
The shower is very pokie.

The hotel is located next to Sovereign Hill park. It has a separate entrance and provides separate entry cards for all its visitors. The hotel complements the park. So, all the buildings are made in the same style as colonial Australia. The hotel is located near the bus stop. Therefore travellers without a car can easily get to it from the station to the hotel and from the hotel to the city.
The room, unfortunately, was not clean. There were some brown spots on the bedding, and every time someone in the hotel drained the water, we heard the water flowing through the pipes along the entire room.

Lovely room, good, clean facilities and reasonable price. Great location for accessing Sovereign Hill. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Check in and out was simple. Staff recommended the Red Lion for tea and this was a great choice really enjoyed the meal!
Bunk bed not so comfy for older child. Breakfast quite pricy, so we ate elsewhere. Some decorations or furniture to make it feel more nostalgic - like part of Sovereign Hill would be better. It just felt a bit too modern for a "Sovereign Hill" hotel.

Stayed here July 2023. The room was great. Huge comfy bed with crisp white linen and the was room was warm when we arrived - bonus in Ballarat! Loved the old and new aspect of the rooms. Regal carpet, Old doors and old basin but modern amenities. An amazing sunrise greeted us in the morning and being probably at the highest point in Ballarat a great view too. Shower caps and big fluffy towels. Staff friendly and welcoming. In all though value for money and a lovely location. Saw previous reviews and was uncertain about booking but what a delight and so glad I decided to choose this place to stay in Ballarat.
Curtains needed to be blockout as the curtains on the window directly in front of our bed did not go all the way down and curtains were on them and others in the room did not block out the sunlight. It was an amazing sunrise though. Remove the cobwebs and better clean of shower.

Easy check in. Very clean. Room.in great condition. Family room was perfect for us. Nice big bathroom. Good view. Not clinical like the big chain hotels. Great location, bordering Sovereign Hill.
An easily accessible outdoor area would be great, but it's an easy walk to a big area for the kids to run around. On site dinner would have been good, but food delivery options are plentiful and they found the place easily (we waited by reception). There's also lots of restaurant/pub options a few minutes drive away.
