Nice comfortable room and pretty quiet. Exactly the right location for our needs. Great cafe next door too. Good location for getting taxi/uber transport too. Excellent hotel staff.

Bathroom needs a good and strong grab handle as the shower is over a spa bath. Climbing in when over 75 can be tricky. in the bathroom, some more flat space to put things on would be good! My wife struggled a bit with the steep staircase, but it is after all an 1888 hotel.

We had a very spacious and comfortable room. Loved the high ceilings, the light fittings, and the old photos of the hotel from its early days. So much nicer to stay in a property like this instead of a cookie cutter modern hotel. Great location, minutes from the train station, and with lots of shops and cafes nearby. Very friendly staff.

A bit of noise from the main road. As an older person, climbing into the shower over the edge of a spa bath is not ideal, but a great rain head shower was worth the climb!

Location to the conference I attended at Swinburne was perfect. The facilities were great. There is no lack of local eateries, cafes and shops to get breakfasts and take back to the room. The older overall decour and finish add a welcome unexpected charm. Very impressed how little noise filtered through from what is each night a very busy and popular pub and restaurant. Staff are excellent.

When the room next to me turned on their spa I thought they were experiencing an earthquake on the tour de France I was watching at the time on the large screen tv...rather funny really. The power points next to the bed and desk are low down on the skirting board meaning I could not use them to charge or power my devices, just ..instead having to use the ones for the amenities and in the bathroom, again only a tiny detail but worth mentioning.

Perfect location for my needs, only a short walk from the venue and plenty of options around to get breakfast and dinner. Late check in was no problem, room was very spacious and clean. I have stayed here before and would recommend to anyone needing a hotel in the area.

I had no problem with the stairs but for anyone with a mobility issue this may be something to take into consideration. Or if you have too much luggage it can be an effort carrying it all!

Room was very comfortable and is larger than normal hotel room. Location is very close to work so that was a positive. Plenty of other options outside the pub for meals, drinks and entertainment. CLsoe to the stations for quick access into the City/MCG. Staff at check in very helpful and explained all that was needed.

Air con was OK in the room - seemed fan speed was always low and could have been better.

The old-style King-sized room was very quiet, despite being on a busy street. Modern amenities were great. It was spacious and very clean with a large spa bath and a huge shower rose over the bath. Parking was available behind the hotel, but not secure, so park at your own risk. Hotel is right next door to a great coffee-roasting shop which serves delicious breakfasts. Walking distance to Hawthorn shops and station.

The reception, although advertised as being open 10am-10pm, was not open at 4pm. It would have been helpful to have had a sign advising us to see someone at the hotel bar for check-in, which we eventually discovered by ourselves, so it only delayed us by 10mins. There is a lot of hallway light that shines under the room’s door (#10) so we had to roll towels at the bottom of the door to block out light. Maybe a door seal could be added or a door snake supplied.

This hotel was great - could not fault the cleanliness. The room was very spacious with beautiful high ceilings, king bed, couch, bar fridge, desk, large wardrobe and beautiful traditional furnishings. The bathroom was also very spacious with large spa bath. All amenities are provided to make your stay comfortable. The hotel has great food (for lunch and dinner) and great beer coupled with great ambience. The location was also good - lots within walking distance and very central. Also really appreciated the free parking. This hotel was really fantastic value for money and we will definitely be staying here again as opposed to overpriced motels/apartments in Melbourne.

Parking was a tight squeeze - might be a bit of an issue for anyone with a large car but we are not complaining as it was free which is rare in Melbourne today. Make sure you bring USB wall charger.

Our stay was so restful, we did not hear a sound from any of the other rooms. We occasionally heard pub patrons at night but there was no noise late at night at all. Loved the spa bath, loved the fabulous shower and water pressure, loved the firm mattress, loved the location to other eateries in the area, loved access to the streaming service, we chose Stan and watched some great movies. What a fabulous short break, it was a mini holiday. We will definitely come back again.

Just a couple of things: We would have liked more bench space in the bathroom. We didn’t have enough room on the little ledge to put all our toiletries. Perhaps some shelving on the wall could help with this. Also, we had a small roll of toilet paper that was nearly finished and no extras. We went and bought our own toilet paper. Lastly, we would have loved firmer choices of pillows. The ones provided were too soft but we made do.

The room was a good size, and the bathroom was large and well-appointed. The bed was very comfortable, and the pub, where we ate a couple of times, was very good. It was only a short walk to Glenferrie train station and a short train ride into the centre of Melbourne, and there were some great local restaurants too.

The reception staff were lovely and when we asked about parking one of the staff promptly moved his car so we could get in behind. The hotel was so quirky and the opposite of the big corporate places we have stayed. It wasn’t shiny and slick, it was comfy and authentic. Such a contrast but in a good way.

Couldn’t seem to find a hairdryer but may have been me.
