It was a cosy hostel on a cool island. The room was spacious and the amenities inside the kitchen/lounge area were good. It is right opposite the ferry terminal so extremely convenient if arriving in the dark especially. The bed was comfortable and it’s nice how they’ve modernised the place but kept the history and tradition of it. The bathrooms were spacious and clean.

I’ve never had a place where I had to make the bed on arrival, so yes it’s only minor but I’ve never had that before. Upon arrival the window was also wide open which meant that the room was absolutely freezing when I got in, but thankfully the heating worked and warmed it up fairly quickly. Not sure why the cleaner thought to leave it open in sub-zero temperatures so that was a little frustrating. There were also no curtains in front of the window so beware in the summer especially of light coming through very early in the morning!

A nice hostel on Suomelinna, which is a cool place to stay in Helsinki and the islands are easy to reach via public transport. The facilities had all one would need for a short stay in a hostel.

I was there with my partner and we booked a mixed dorm because of that but they made a mistake and put us both in a women's room. Which for us it didn't matter but it might have been not great for the other women in the room if they specifically booked for a women's room. Also, we stayed in room one which got quite hot in the afternoon (which is to expect since it's the south side of an old building).

Quaint, functional, warm and welcoming.

We were there at the same time as a school camp. There were lots of kids doing kid things, we don’t blame them, it was loud but they got quiet at 9 and stayed that way for the night so it was all good. Bit awkward running into strange loose kids making a cup of tea or in the washroom but feels like they were there first and were having a cracking time, so alls well.

Very atmospheric place to stay. Quiet surroundings, yet quite near to the center with a 15-minute ride with a small ferry. The ferry goes every 20 minutes during daytime, less often in weekends and during evenings but still every hour. The place has high ceilings and built with quality materials. Visitors can use kitchen with fridge, kettle, tea and coffee.

I think the doors could have had better sound insulation. It was not problem as other visitors were quite but I could still hear the early-birds talking quietly in the kitchen. It can be problem if somebody is loud. Nevertheless the walls itself were solid and soundproof and I couldn´t hear people from other rooms. The showers could have had some curtain. I hung my clothes to the hangers but they got a little water from showering. But I definitely would go back.

The best thing about this hostel is it's location on Suomenlinna. If you want to take an amazing evening ferry to see the sunset over Helsinki and then take a morning walk and look at the endless sea horizon, then I strongly recommend to stay overnight in this hostel. The hostel has quite big common space where you can eat your food or just relax after a long day with some coffee or tea (for free).

Well, it's a hostel anyway and you never know who your neighbours will be. Unfortunately, I was a bit unlucky and there was a person who snored very loud during the whole night. I think that person was the only one who was sleeping in our room😅 So for future travelers, I strongly recommend taking ear plugs and a sleeping mask (or the hostel maybe could provide that in the future). The hostel maybe could also consider installing bigger refrigerators in the future because I barely had any space to store my food. Otherwise, everything was good. Thank you:)

There was the option to book breakfast in advance for the stay for an extra 8€ / person which was a fair price. There was basic rye bread and toast, some cold cut meats and cheese, jam, Nutella and peanut butter to put on top. Joghurt with some mysli, porridge (even tho it was a ready made porridge bag you'd have to add water and mix it) and some cold 'juice soups' and some fruits. It was located conveniently next to the boat pier where the boats left to center every 15 to 20 mins depending on the time of the day. A small convenient store was also right next to it. Keep in mind that ther bathroom is shared but it's greatly solved by having a door to lock when using the shower / toilet so there was no issue at all. It's an old building so expect to hear some noises from people just doing unnoisy stuff (moving around kitchen to prepare food e.g.) And of course the island is just absolutely lovely in the summer in the nice sunny weather! And still easy to reach the main land whenever :)

It was really thick air when we entered the room, would have been nice to open the window for a bit before the arrival. The common room upstairs was a little noisy even though people weren't particularly loud. Wouldn't recommend for people with light sleep to stay on the 2nd floor but rather request a room on the ground floor.

Simple, homely and very peaceful. The rooms were simple dorms but nice, comfortable and clean. Petra was an amazing hostess who really loved welcoming in such a warm manner- I instantly felt at home!

A very minor issue with the showers being press button rather than a tap function but I guess they’re trying to be kind to the environment

It's pretty easy getting to the island and back (24 hr ticket = 9 euros) as they go frequently. The late check-in could be an issue for some if you arrive early, but you can still leave your bags in the hostel and explore the island fortress before you get your bed. The two women who worked the reception during my stay was super helpful, cool and energetic in their own unique way! The common room is kind of like a dining hall but still very open and inviting. Also, just outside the hostel you can hang out by the water, watch the sunset while having some beers if you'd like, so beautiful!

The location was amazing, for those who don't know about it, it's the only hotel/hostel on this beautiful island. If you look for peace and a way to relax, I guess this should be the exact choice. I got to give credit to the guy at the reception with long blonde hair. Kind, helpful and respectful. There is a dining area where there is a TV, complimentary cookies, coffee etc. I took more than one guide book because they had several languages. I also took a few cookies. they were great. that's my confession, I hope they don't mind ;]

I spent the night at a shared-room, I can't say it was good or bad. Experience at a hostel mostly depends on your room mates and who you stay with. In my case, I suppose I was not very lucky, there were old people who made me a bit unfomfortable, not because they were old, because of how they acted but of course they were fine at the end. Only thing I can suggest to the hotel administration would be to put some rules for the dining area, there were some women who were not really respectful to others and made quite the noise at night, after all, it's not your fault, all was good, THX ;]

Atmosphere, cleanliness, staff, location, value for money.

The doors to rooms could be better soundproofed. As now the soundproof is almost zero. Would give much more privacy to change the doors to thicker ones. Including also the toilet doors.
