This hotel really exceeded my expectations. The owner phoned a few times prior to my arrival to ensure everything was set for my stay. When I arrived, he gave me a nice drink (I forgot the name) and some fish fillet. Despite being a relatively small building, there was an elevator so it was easy to take my luggage up and down. The owner was very helpful in suggesting activities, and how to get around. I didn't even have to ask - he gave me a map with some directions straight away. Everyone seemed friendly and helpful. Now let's get to the room. It was a very decent size. For the type of hotel it was - the room was bigger than I anticipated. I even had a balcony and could see the sea from where I was. The shower although small, was still bigger than the ones in other hotels. Cleaning was good. There was a washing line outside so I could dry clothes if needed. Also table and chairs outside if I wanted to sit out there. Balcony a decent size too. Excellent location - close enough to Chania old town, and about a minute or two away from the marina. The hotel offers breakfast for 10 Euro. I didn't take it but it is cheaper than most other places in the area. Competitive rates too compared to others in the area.

Only 2 working sockets - the third one didn't work at all and the fourth one was used for the fridge. The working sockets quite far from the bed. It is a key card hotel meaning that the key has to be in for the aircon to work so it had to be turned on again and given some time to cool the room every time you entered. But honestly, I am just being picky and pedantic - everything else was very good and better than expected. And to be honest for the price I paid, I really cannot complain.

We had a great stay at this hotel. The location is excellent – right in the Old Town, but not in the noisy, crowded areas, which made it peaceful yet very convenient. The room was comfortable, had air conditioning, and actually looked even better in person than in the photos. We also really enjoyed the pleasant view from the balcony. The host was incredibly friendly and helpful, always available for anything we needed. The room was cleaned every day, which we really appreciated. Overall, we highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again!

We booked 4 rooms for our family/friends for 1 transfer night only to catch an early flight home. We checked in after 7pm and very welcoming and attentive staff surprised us with wonderful snack which we did not expect. The rooms were simple, a bit outdated but clean, each had a balcony in the street and an AC. Our bed was very comfortable. Parking was a bit challenging at about 7pm, but at a later hour we could park the car right under the hotel. The proximity of the centre/ restaurants is unbeatable.

Although the rooms were supposed to be for non smokers, our room stank enormously. My friends, however, did not report the problem. And the hairdryer did not work in our room either.

Super clean, and excellent location close to everything, but out of the way enough to be quiet. A lot more character than the high-rise hotels. Owner was so helpful in sorting out all kinds of things - we made some arrangements through him, and some independently, but we should have gone through him for everything taxis, tours, rental car, he really looked after us well for everything he arranged (we had a very bad experience with something we arranged ourselves through Viator/TripAdvisor that wouldn't have happened if we had just booked through the hotel owner). While we were there, breakfast was being offered at a the nearby hotel Kriti. At first we thought it was a little expensive, but for Crete prices the breakfast through the hotel was a good deal. It also let us see a bigger, newer hotel - nice, but no personality. We were happy to be at the Filoxenia.

The property doesn't look too promising from the outside - though that's not unusual in older areas - and it just so happened the road was also getting paved so some times there was noise or dust (but it'll be very nice when it's done). And of course while it's half a block from the ocean, and you can see the ocean from the balcony, if money was not object an ocean view would've been nice. But inside, especially in the rooms, everything is wonderfully maintained and very very clean, and waterfront would have been double or triple the price, and probably noisy. For us, this was perfect, especially the location where various people in our party could come and go to different activities.

The property is 1 minute from the seashore and cafés. It’s also a 5-minute walk to the Venician port. The famous Drandaki bakery (wood-fired oven) is also minutes from the hotel. You are close to the old port and yet the price remains very low. There is very little traffic down the street the hotel is on, so it will be nice and quiet. The room was impeccably clean. The owner is a gem and will welcome you in true Cretan style, with water and a bite to eat when you check in!

It is so close to the sea you can smell it. Also there are many bars, coffee shops and restaurants 50 m from it. Central location. Now the hosts, who are amazing, really great human beings. They welcomed us with traditional raki and made our stay so enjoyable. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. They have everything you would need (AC, hair dryer, comfy bed, shampoo/shower gel), a terrace for a cup of coffee in the morning. We will def come back to Filoxenia again :)

Everything was perfect

The location is fantastic, between the old town and the city beach. This is a really local experience no rented beds and umbrellas here. The staff are welcoming and very helpful and the very economic airport bus is a two block work.

This is not a new, shiny and bright hotel but it is ‘good for its age’ - everything you need is right there.

The managers of the hotel were very kind and served us a welcome aperitif. He was very helpful - we had troubles with the car we rented and he contacted the manager of the agency and spoke with him in Greek to assist us. The hotel is near the touristic places. The excellent breakfast was served in a very near hotel. I recommend this hotel

On arrival the owner greeted us with some appitizers and a welcome drink. The hotel is super clean. Friendly enviorment and are willing to help. I needed a clinic for my daughter on my stay and they helped me a lot. Thanks.

Would have loved to have an electric kettle in the room but still i am not disappointed as they had in the lobby.
