This guesthouse has a very homey, community, vibe. The breakfast was simple but delicious, and abundant in such that there was a variety of healthy options. Boiled eggs, selection of cheese and meats, cereals, delicious homemade pancakes with syrup and spreads (hazelnut one better than Nutella!). The surroundings were fairly clean and acceptable and they were somewhat accommodating. The beds were comfortable and warm. My friends and I loved our stay here and would stay again.
The difficulty is that guests may not realise that this is somewhere in between a hostel and bnb, a guesthouse. It is someone's house, so there is an exception of the property and rules to be respected. The owner may come across quite strict in holding those boundaries, but he can meet in the middle when he feels the guests are respecting his home, himself and his rules. We worried we would upset him too but he ended up enjoying our company and helped us. Be mindful that it is someone's home and you'll have a great time.

Alba Guesthouse is so very cosy and welcoming. Harpa is THE most gracious and lovely host I’ve ever met in my travels. She was quick to welcome me and make me feel at home. She kept things very tidy and was readily available for any questions and overall an absolute delight to get to know. Also the breakfast…did I mention the breakfast?? MEGA. As a vegetarian I was super excited to have so many options and be able to enjoy my start of day meals in the beautiful sun room. My room was in the basement which I was initially skeptical about, but to my delight it got plenty of natural light through the large window that faced the front garden fence. The location is walking distance to BSI Bus Terminal and to Reykjavik town centre. It was very quiet and peaceful. Overall a lovely experience and I would highly recommend for fellow solo travellers!

The host is very kind and welcoming, eager to offer recommendations and tips for Iceland. It’s located an easy walk from the bus station, so very simple for getting to/from the airport. Having a breakfast option is also great, although it’d be nice if it was available until a little later in the morning. And the walk into town is maybe 15 minutes.
There’s no grocery stores nearby, which is a bummer, so do any shopping before you come back for the evening. We also had to share the bathroom with some not so great housemates, which isn’t the property’s fault, but we found the type of traveler staying here may not be used to using shared spaces.

Considering all the guesthouses and hotels in same price range, this one was best value for our money. The room itself was quite nice and the beds were comfortable. Room equipment was quite common, but it serve its purpose. The breakfast selections were not huge, but exactly as I would expect from this kind of family owned guesthouse, so we were satisfied. Also, the owner was regulary checking and bringing more good if needed. The owners / managers were nice.
House itself is quite old and it shows.I have no ideal how profitable this business it and if it would be able to finance small restoration work, but it would be definitelly nice. Also things like replacing curtsins in bathrooms could help as those are quite wear out.

We recently spent 10 delightful days at Alba Guesthouse and were thoroughly impressed by the experience. Here's a summary of what made our stay so memorable: Great Value for Money: The guesthouse offered excellent value for the price, making it a fantastic choice for our extended stay. Fresh Breakfast: Each morning, we enjoyed a breakfast with always-fresh products. The pancakes were mine personal favorite! Comfortable Accommodations: Our room was cleaned daily, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful stay. Outstanding Hosts: The true highlight of Alba Guesthouse was the hosts. They were incredibly kind and attentive, addressing any issues promptly. When our flight was delayed, the host welcomed us at 3:00 a.m. without any fuss. Their warm hospitality made us feel truly valued and at home. Overall, the constant sense of being welcomed significantly enhanced our stay. We are grateful for the wonderful experience and look forward to returning to Alba Guesthouse on our next visit to Iceland. Thank you for making our stay so special! Takk fyrir!
At times, we experienced a bit of a wait for the bathrooms and showers, as there are only two available and the guesthouse was quite full during our stay. However, this was understandable given the high occupancy.

I like everything. Perfect location we riched everything by walk. Extremely welcoming owners. Breakfast is amazing. Bed is comfortable. Perlan museum only 16 min by walk city centre 20 min by walk bus station only 5 min by walk .lava show and Sky Lagoon are hour 15 min walk . The cheap shop is a bonus 20 min by walk. I was leaving accommodation at 3:30 am and I asked the owner to make a sandwich for me and they did very nicely from them
There are only 1 recommendation to the owner. If they get money change windows, they could save lots of money on heating

This was a good spot for my first look at Reykjavik -- about 20 minutes on foot to downtown or under 15 minutes to the Perlan. Alba provided a comfortable bed, two outlets, small closet and a sink in a clean, plain room -- 101. It's about 10 paces past other guest rooms to the shared 3/4 bathroom downstairs. Plenty of hot water. The main floor included a clean half bathroom. Breakfast each morning was varied and good. Lots of fruit -- pear, apple, banana, and orange wedges -- appeared and disappeared during my two breakfasts. Pancakes, hard-boiled eggs, meats and cheeses were there, then gone. Cukes and tomatoes were the veg offerings. Cereals, too. Yogurt.. Not a coffee guy, but it was available. Jams and preserves were popular with the breads. No more than six guests shared two large tables each morning for the 7-9 a.m. service. And thanks to my host, Þorsteinn ("Thor-stine"), for the travel advice and encouragement to explore Reykjavik, a very safe city, at any hour. What a beautiful place to experience, and Alba was my starting point.
Nothing the wonderful hosts can do about other guests not cleaning up after they've showered. Still, that's sometimes part of the experience at a guesthouse. The toilet seat downstairs is broken and needs replacement.

The host was very friendly and kind (not grumpy at all!). He lent me a usb cable and was excited about the eruption. The rooms are cleaned every day. The water is hot and smells of sulphur. The unlimited breakfast buffet was simple but tasty, with strong and delicious coffee.
The doors opening and closing were very noisy (in the downstairs bedroom, anyway). Bring earplugs. The downstairs loo is tiny and a bit rough. It’s fairly close to the downtown as the crow flies, but a little hard to navigate on foot - crossing under, over and under a multi-lane motorway. You’ll figure it out though. The crow picture in my room was a bit terrifying. Pricey, but this is Reykjavik.

Clean and homely, our bed was very comfortable. While the house isn't fancy or very modern, things were clean and worked, and the place was one of the most affordable options we could find last-minute.
Breakfast was typical Icelandic, which means if you're a vegan, you won't be overjoyed by options. Of course I expected that, and it's understandable for a small guesthouse in Iceland, but bring your own plant milk and any vegan alternatives you might want. There's bread, some veggies, fruit, syrup, jams, and the hazelnut bread doesn't have milk - so you can eat something, but it ended up being a very sweet and sugary breakfast with little protein. Some peanut butter would be a simple addition, maybe even hummus. Oat milk might be reasonable too, as many people choose it these days.

I liked the fact that a late check-in was possible. Also, the breakfast was really nice with home-baked bread and pancakes. Our room had a sink which was super handy. And the guesthouse is 3 mins walk from the Reykjavik terminal where airport direct buses and other tours depart. Would stay there again!
