Great location one minute from the station. The hotel is somewhat dated in a quaint sort of way. All the staff were very friendly, the night porter liked to have a chat when we got back each night. Room was large, comfortable and clean. Coffee, milk and biscuits were replenished everyday with further milk portions and biscuits on the table outside the bedroom. There was a great choice of breakfast items including eggs, cold cuts, cheese, breads and pastries, jams and biscuits. Just outside the city walls it was an easy walk to get into the main town where there are many restaurants, cafes and bars.

The shower cubicle was very small considering the size of the bathroom.

Charming little hotel, perfectly located 50 metres from the train station and 100 metres from the city walls. It's a little quirky, with mismatched crockery at breakfast and so on, and the room furnishings have an old-fashioned vibe, but that only adds to its charm. Bed was comfy, water was hot and plentiful, and they provided real bars of soap. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful and my room, despite looking out onto the station piazza which is undergoing refurbishment, was perfectly quiet. Excellent value for money, especially in a city that is otherwise very dedicated to extracting as much from tourists as it can: the Rex stands out for its fair pricing.

The hotel is an older solid building right in front of the train station and across the street from the city walls - which means everything is in walking distance. The room is spacious and the beds comfy enough with nice sheets. The bathroom was roomy with a nice sized shower and plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The breakfast was very generous with pastries, breads, cereals, yogurts, fruits, fruit juices, various teas and coffees, meats and cheeses and hard boiled eggs. All of the staff is extra friendly and helpful. All with an affordable price.

I was travelling with a good friend. We loved the size of the room with one double and one single bed. There was sufficient wardrobe space, a fridge and a safe. Nice cotton bed linen. The windows could be opened, which is always a huge bonus. The breakfast room was nice and light with enough space and a good selection of pastries etc. As always in Italy there wasn't much brown bread and we had to ask for marmalade.

The noise level in our bedroom was unbelievably loud! Even with the windows and shutters closed, the noise of sirens penetrated and kept us awake, ditto the construction site machinery from seven o'clock in the morning. They provided fresh fruit at breakfast but only after we asked for it. The hot milk on the burner at breakfast had a thick skin and was full of lumps.

Right by the train station and just outside the city walls. Very comfortable room with a kettle and a plentiful supply of tea/coffee and biscuits. Friendly staff and a very good breakfast. A very unique hotel, a million miles away from bland, corporate chains.

The location was great - a 5 min walk to the main entrance of the old city. Having a car, it was brilliant to be able to park right out the front rather than lug our bags over more cobblestones. The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable and it was great there was a lift. We loved the traditional hotel breaky that was supplied. Great variety. The staff are lovely and friendly and it was great to support a smaller hotel.

Unfortunately we couldn’t get our air conditioning to work, but an open window filled the rooms down. There are roadworks out the front but they thankfully didn’t start early so no noise impact.

This was quite a cool, older hotel, located right beside the train station so it was very easy to carry luggage to the hotel. We were not disturbed by trains at all at night. It is also only a short walk to the city walls of Lucca. The hotel rooms were big, breakfast was very good, and the hotel staff ( family run business) were very friendly and helpful, we even received a thank you gift when we left.

As it is an older hotel, some fixtures may need a bit of work, e.g the shower screen leaked so some water would go on the floor of the bathroom. This was a minor issue for us though.

This property is charming! It is like staying with Nonna. There are trinkets and items of interest sorted around d the hotel. Kids areas, comfy sofas to stop and chat or have a coffee . It is like it is someone’s well loved home from the 70’s and they have put all the little things they love into it. It is not a 5 star hotel so do not expect that but it is an exceptionally clean and well served 3 star with the most amazing, helpful and friendly staff. The air con wasn’t working (I think it is old and probably doesn’t work quite regular) but we were provided fans in our rooms. The bathrooms are not perfectly decorated but they are exceptionally clean with plenty of white towels and little extras like shower caps and small packets of toiletries. The water was hot and the shower was adequate.

We stayed in the Quadruple Room. It has two rooms and a bathroom. The rooms were clean and have a high ceiling. One of the rooms has a balcony. The rooms hasve a kettle, coffee, tea and cookies. A lot of books and toys for the children. The breakfast had a large selection. There were croissants, bread, jam, cakes, boiled and scrambled eggs, cheese, fruit salad and various yogurts. The hotel is very conveniently located, close to the train station and a 10 minute walk from the historic center. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has different Free parking in front of the hotel (on the sidewalk). It could be due to the construction work near the hotel.

We expected a queen bed instead of combined 2 single beds.

This is an older hotel so don’t expect the Crowne Plaza. Great friendly staff in an excellent location 2 minutes from the station so no lugging of cases to the far end of Lucca. Room was comfortable but in a summer heatwave the poor air con would be an issue for our USA guests. For our 1 night stay it was just fine with a very good breakfast included. The mature gentleman checking us in was a pleasure to talk too with a good command of English and on asking pointed us to an excellent restaurant in the town frequented by locals. Great food at proper prices and no greeters trying to entice you in at inflated prices.

Nothing, it was just what we wanted at a good price for a popular destination.
